Oracle1999 is referring to a Vanity 6 soundboard from March 6th 1983 that just got leaked as well. There's a thread about it here: http://prince.org/msg/5/423074

I'd like to know about this 1987 rehearsal as well, I don't remember listening to anything matching that description recently, but maybe I'm just being forgetful.

It's a late 1987 rehearsal that was released on the "Munchen" bootleg last year (along with the soundboard SOTT Munich aftershow), and was previously uncirculating before the release of this bootleg. They run through various takes of "Mother Popcorn", "I Want To Take You Higher", "Love and Happiness", "I'll Take You There", and "The Sex Of It".

Ah I see, I was aware of the aftershow release but had no idea that a rehearsal had been leaked as well, thanks a lot for informing me of this smile

BTW I'm pretty confused, about last year a rehearsal surfaced from I guess 87, where Prince and the band play mostly covers (James, Sly, that kinda stuff). Do we have any additional info about that one?

Thx for the info. I had it for a very brief time then my drive crashed b4 I could make a back-up, and I lost the Madhouse opening at that same time. Hopefully this info will help me 2 track it down smile

Agree with the OP.
I was floored yesterday listening through it all.
This is truly one of the best boots of this era.
So much talent on that stage...And he was about 27 yeras old. Wow.

Can't think of many...mybe ANY , artist who put out that amount of passion into a sound check.

This is one for the books.

A real treat.

Absolutely. Reminds me of a comment made by 3EG where they said Prince had told them to always perform, under all circumstances, like they were being recorded and filmed. Prince's soundchecks are remarkable, just seeing the work in action.

this is some of the most interesting stuff you`ll EVER hear from prince (and the revolution).

sublime recording, stunning.

my eyes are purple.

What makes it interesting to you?

let me see.

"something in the water" : i haven`t heard him play a guitar solo on this particular tune as good as this one. in other words : i, personally, think it`s the best one i`ve heard so far.

"groove in a" : when is the last time you`ve heard the revolution with Eric Leeds jam like this - apart from the Flesh sessions? The Purple Rush Set has sections with jamming, but not as funky as this.

"high fashion" : great rendition. obviously the band knows the arrangement, but they are still working on it. I love being there and being able to listen and follow the progress.

Love...thy will b done

Groove In A is my jam, this groove is addictive ! i love listening to the soundchecks, any period.

I hope that others gigs/soundchecks will be available with this sound soon (The 1984.10.25 7th Street Entry gig for example...).

PURPLEIZED3121

just rememer that this at the height of the Purple Rain gigs & yet here we have a sophisticated, jazzy/funky version of strange relationship...whatever he's doing now he's always 2 or 3 steps ahead behind the scences. That's one thing I love about his work ethic..he's always always planning wayyy ahead.

Strange Relationship

I like both, but I prefer this one, because the 1987 version to me drags into Prince having Bonnie cryiing too long and then the Squirrel Meat extension.
I love the verse parts, not the jam parts on that one.

Fantastic boot! Can't say enough about how great it is to hear this. Groove in A is SLAMMIN! And that's Prince playing the bass with Mark, as well as on High Fasion.

U might not like the taste, but I'm still going to stick your face in this Funk

You're rigth! Great combo!

It'sinteresting that whatever instrument Prince is on, that instrument takes center stage. It's the same with the drums on the Flesh sessions.

Ok, Something In The Water. Oh lawd!!!! And I don't even like the song on 1999. But this piece right here is something else. Transcending to say the least. It's as essential in my ears as PR or SOTT. On that level of musicianship. My god I'm blown away. And I'm not even half through. I've never experienced any nirvana state of mind in my short years of a Princefan outside his main work. Just a few times. But now I get why I am a Princefan. I get it now!! I fucking get it!!!!

What is that style of music? He said something about 1950s? They way they are playing it sounds like New Wave + Rockabilly

Is that Stever Fargnolli Prince told to admit on the mic his shortcomings? for coming late?

Yeah, that's Steve Fargnoli he's admonishing for arriving late.

I agree with the OP and others, this release is amazing. I have had it on repeat since yesterday.

Now the light fades out and I wonder what I'm doing in a room like this

Prince to Wendy. "Guitar solo! Want your last check fined? Not a 1966 solo either. Say it in the mic. "I'm weak. I cant solo in B-flat" come on! Say it the mic"!

Of course he start on Groove in A:

Prince: "On the one. Guitar and drums [no guitar] Guitars and drums [still no guitar]. Turn me up over there. Guitars and drums [irritated]. [Wendy comes in in the wrong key] [Prince laughs].On the one. You weren't listening. B! Weak. Weak. Say it in the mic. Say it! "I'm weak".

Wendy: No

Prince: Haha. say it so all Miami can hear it. You didn't know what cue it was in. Come on. Say it. It's cool. She can't even drink. She was all [makes a crashing sound]

I love their comradere, the playfullness, and this is her 1st ever tour/band and she held her own
