Black Muse is a brilliant and sophisticated song that works in every way. It's up there for me too. Aside from the ill-fitted Screwdriver Phase 2 is a regal affair.

Black Muse is amongst his best songs ever. Top 20 for sure and that is saying a lot for him to out out something of that quality after almost forty years in this game. Couple that with the fact that the current tour is the best of his career. Great time to be a Prince fan.

Right!! People seem to have frozen him in an era, a mindset that THEY prefer because it produced THEIR favorite songs or fueled and ideology THEY had or lived through vicariously. AnnaSantana: Swearing and angry 80% of the time. Rather clever, because people really listen and take you seriously when you're so objective and reasonable. In fact the louder you scream and the more you shout and moan the more effective your arguments are. I think Prince just can't wait to do what you want, in fact he's going to be so pleased he will probably make you his next Black Muse.

.

Because lets face it, artists lives and choices are never their own. They belong to us, the public. We decide and dictate what we want them to do. Like our puppets who must dance to the strings we pull. We know what's best for them, their persona, past, present and future and we know how to run their careers better than them too! Someone better send Prince a WhatsApp and tell him to change his setlist for tonight. This singing songs from only 2001 onwards is just not on!!

.

I'm looking forward to a lovely new word stream of sensible decent talk. So unpreditable and imaginative. Always so optimistic and positive. Always so democratic and accepting of different views.

And so great to have you around Pentacle! What was it like sitting round the deal table when they signed the contract? How many hours did it take? Did Prince mention he had Black Muse ready? If you've got a copy of the contract, we'd love to see it. You know.... for all the details and legal ins and outs. nod

Yep, he played 'Black Muse (When Will My People B Paid mix)' and they said:

"That's great, Prince, just keep trying. Meanwhile, we want to focus on that

period when you were still writing good songs. And we want to give the people

more of that from your vault."

But according to you, WB flat oud lied in their press release, of course.

Unlike you, I am not that gullible in believing everything that comes from the press is to be swallowed, hook line and sinker. Especially when it is for PR and Marketing stunts with a long history of struggle. lol Or arrogant enough to pretend I know all the ins and outs of the deal which I never participated in.

.

The 'When will my people b paid' mix sounds terrific! I hope you recorded.

It didn't come from De Telegraaf or Premier Rutte but from the funky people of WB.
As it stands they look pretty stupid for announcing PR and then ...nothing.
I'm sure that was not their plan...

He also played the 'Ugly White Rocker'-mix of Whitecaps, which was really good

and therefore remains unreleased.

Ok, dude is roughly 38 albums in at this point right. And while I know he's still capable of greatness, I don't assume or expect that he'll drop something that ascends to top 10 status for me. (that list is in constant flux and too difficult to compile, thus its absence) but MAN, Black Muse is SPECIAL. I can't stop listening to it. Musically isn't not "groundbreaking" and doesn't have a killer RIFF or melody but it muscially TIGHT and seems to be in a category all its own. The background vocals and the band are stellar (Ledisi, Allo?). For me its the best thing this configuration of NPG has done and hightlights their strengths and his band leadership. Its not a "protest" song, its not a provacative RAIL against the "system", but its just a feel good, matter of fact song about hope and perseverance which makes me feel uplifted every time I listen (which is why I can't stop listening). It's part EWF, part Stevie Wonder and all Prince. He's never had a song that has had THIS affect on me

Has anybody heard it on radio yet?

And what is the cutoff point for the edit? (I think I may know but...)

[Edited 4/10/16 18:26pm]

You do realise feeluupp that that is the second time you have made a discriminatory comment. Namely: age discrimination. Do you race and gender as well? I hope not for your sake. It would mean you were very young and still had a lot to learn. lol Black Muse is brilliant. So is when Doves Cry, but it's 2016 not 1984.

great song... think it is under rated due to the fact it's placed on a very very average album that lacks energy... but it's a lovely song, think it would've got more respect if it was on a "stronger" album.
