The integrity of this thread kind of went out the window when people starting suggesting "When You Were Mine" and "Little Red Corvette".... yeah, those songs are just crap. If you think those aren't worthy of love, wait 'til you get to "Poor Little Bastard"...

.

(Ahem...)

.

Anyway, I do somewhat like 'Adore' but I don't love it. The problem isn't so much the song itself, which is good enough, but maybe the falsetto-slow-jam R&B ballad style just isn't quite to my taste. The style just seems generic. Then again, sometimes when he does this style, it works for me, so I dunno, maybe it is the song. 'Adore' just doesn't float my boat as a melody, and his vocal isn't so great. (Some good lyrics, though.) I give it a 'pass' but I certainly don't love it.

.

I agree with someone that "My Name is Prince" is fairly crap. (Then again, it isn't really a song that "everyone loves".) Not only is the lyric silly and pointlessly self-aggrandizing, the music is derivative and trend-chasing. Hell, he couldn't even get words to rhyme in the chorus ("funky" and "only" are not even a half-rhyme!).

LOL, funny you would mention that but I'm a big fan of Jacko but I really don't like Thriller, Billie Jean, Bad or pretty much any of his BIG hits.

Great you're a Jackson fan, if you weren't how would you call him ah? No one that is a Jackson fan would call him jacko.

LOL. I have all his solo albums, a few Jackson 5 compilations and about 150 unreleased outtakes. And I have a photograph at home of him holding me in his arms when I was 2 or 3 years old. Fair enough, I don't remember that day but as you can imagine, the picture is something I used to brag about a lot when I was at school. I don't think it matters what I call him, I'm still a fan of (most of) his music.

Great question.... for me it is most of the Diamonds and Pears singles! I am huge fan of Gett Off, Live4Love, Insatiable, and Thunder...but never really was able to get in to Diamonds and Pearls, Cream, Walk Don't Walk, and Willing and Able. (Although I do love the guitar only version of Cream that he did on VH1). I have tried and tried...especially with D&P and Cream...just don't feel them...but I am extremely happy with the amazing Symbol album that would soon follow!!!

Wow, what´s the background story to that picture?

By the way, a female colleague of mine met him at a supermarket in L.A around the time the Thriller album came out. She was spending her gap year in L.A back then and she wasn´t even a big fan but they chatted quite a bit and she said he was quite pleasant and down to earth.

Like I say, I don't remember it but I'm told by my sister, who was only 4 herself, that it was in the summer of 92, which means I was 2 at the time. My mum was a big Michael Jackson fan so my uncle, who was working security on the concert, got us backstage where we met Jackson. We all got pictures with him and one of them, he had me in his arms. I'll be at home again soon so if I find the photographs I'll post them on the Michael Jackson thread.

Just checked my iTunes for the actual amount of songs. Its 132 unreleased songs. Some of which were B sides, so I'm not sure if you'd count them as unreleased but they're not album tracks so I put them in the unreleased playlist. There's a few early recordings from when he was quite young but they're all solo songs (except for a few duets), but I have Jackson 5 stuff in a separate playlist.

But back on topic, another Prince song I don't like that I think most fans do, is All the Critics Love You in New York. It fits the album perfectly, but I never have the urge to listen to that song if I'm not listening to the album.

Purple Rain. Not that I dislike it, but I always skip it or turn the TV off if the video comes on. Its just one of those songs I find overstays it's welcome. Nice guitar solo but when I seen Prince live a few years ago and he start playing it, I was disappointed. I had hoped he'd give it a rest.

The day Prince dies - U know the song they will play on the radio is Purple Rain.

Prince - the artist famously known for Purple Rain - where he won an Oscar, Grammy and had the No1 single and Album at the same time...passed today...

Dude will never stop playing this song - and I don't mind!

Difference - I remember when MJ passed - every radio station that day played back-to-back MJ...I mean every station back-to-back.

Prince will get a handful of plays - and 90% will be Purple Rain!

Well, then they don't know music and can go fuck themselves. For real. pimp2

Exactly, over on MJJ Community, using the word Jacko is banned, its censored and you are given a warning with points, too many and you are banned for life.

.

They also ban the word wacko and any link or story from TMZ, Dianne Diamonstein, Hard Copy and any other major gossip source.

.

I agree about some of those big Thriller singles being overplayed like PR, but they are still good, Thriller is lugubrious though and I think MJ's best period was Bad/Dangerous rather than Thriller.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Worst thing he could have done. That photo and act really shot what was left of his reputation down in pieces. Probably drugged out of his skull. Within a year Gavin Arvisio was doing his thing and Martin Gossipstein Bashir had his sathanic documentary out, with the soundcut and mixed coverage that portrayed MJ as the creepiest paedophile when in fact he was guilty of only being very naive and trusting and a bit feeble minded by this stage

It was quite strange because as you say it was Prince's only UK No1 and when he appeared on Top of the Pops to play it he performed the Mustang Mix Version of the song which probably confused a few people wink
