his recent music doesn't suck at all. apart from some songs, there are enough good songs on any album he did in the last 15 years (apart from Planet Earth).

Yes, it does, and it's funny because Planet Earth actually has 2 decent songs on it (All The Midnights* & Lion Of Judah)

* shame about the scalliwags, Prince must be a big fan of Pirates of the Carribean

Sales isnt the be all...never has been with him...i am just making the point that prince can sell plenty of albums....if he does it properly....as he did on musicology...cd sales are declining in general....prince is lucky to have been at his peak during the peak years for album sales....now artists must make their money with touring....huge sales....adele and a few others aside....are a thing of the past... .

Yes, but Musicology was a trick wasn't it...?

Everybody that works for him is a specialist/professional at what they do.

I'd be happy if that'd be true. But we haven't seen a professionally designed album artwork in more than a decade. Most of his bootlegs have much better artworks than the official albums. Prince often hires people who are not professionals.

I am super worried that this deal is going to screw the student who has been suckered into CD distribution. I really have no idea what is involved with the whole thing but if she makes money and needs a 1099 from Prince next year..... UH OH!!

Are you referring to the covers or the inner notes etc?

The last two album covers were definitely produced by a professional.

Musicology had around one million sales in the usa...with another million counted due to being included with the musicology concert ticket...and another million outside the usa...

To what extent do you think the TIDAL streaming affected these sales? I also have to say that I saw a huge amount of filesharing of this album on certain platforms which can't help.

He could easily get it distributed and on Amazon, any little independant, he just doesnt want to, he wants 100% profit, which isn't going to happen, unless he's going to drive a van round the streets selling it out the back of it smile

we don't have any numbers of how many times PHASE 1 was STREAMED on TIDAL... Spotify shows the number of times a song was streamed, TIDAL does not...

however what we do know is that PHASE 1 sold less than 10,000 copies for physical sales... which is probably the reason that PHASE 2 is having a hard time disrtibuting it... WB passed up, and others hence why it can't get a large scale national and international distribution.

it's a mixture of both i believe. remember on twitter PRINCE stated WB passed up on PHASE 1. also if it can easily be distributed why isn't ROC NATION distributing PHASE 2 like they did with PHASE 1.

it's because PRINCE wants an upfront profit, but his product is not making them profit by selling so poor numbers.

we don't have any numbers of how many times PHASE 1 was STREAMED on TIDAL...

That's an interesting point. If Tidal released those figures it would make the overall situation clearer.

It will be interesting to see how the next album is distributed. A number of people believe that it might be digital only which, whilst it is relatively easy and cheap to arrange, does mean file sharing will be prolific. The demand for Cds is still there but the numbers in the current market and situation are clearly less than they were.

I am super worried that this deal is going to screw the student who has been suckered into CD distribution. I really have no idea what is involved with the whole thing but if she makes money and needs a 1099 from Prince next year..... UH OH!!

Bowie, sold 1 million worldwide sales of BLACKSTAR in 2 weeks. Second week sales were just tallied at over 300,000.

Worldwide sales must be so much more because Mr. Bowie sold the rights to his mastertapes for 90 million.

That's a lot of cheddar, Prince said.

those numbers are not the current figures... and are u.s. sales only. for example PARADE sold 1.9 million back in 1986 in the U.S. alone... so a lot of these figures that are "off". also DIAMONDS & PEARLS worldwide sales is over 6.7M now and PURPLE RAIN is over 25M.

LOTFUSFLOW3R sold over 500,000 which is an amazing feat when u remember it was sold at TARGET alone exclusively in the beginning...

Funkenberry tweeted about it calling it "LEGIT". I think that is as close to an official endorsement it has gotten.
