This is probably the most out-of-place song on the album. Also, I'm surprised he chose the original version over the extended mix - which has been the arrangements for the live performances.

I think this mix is again slightly different than the earlier one from a few years back. Very similar, but different still. But I haven't done any A/B comparisons yet. I thought more songs on this album sound slightly different to me then the versions that we've heard before. Will do some comparisons soon!

It just doesn't seem to work with the sound of the new tracks.

I just think of 3EG era when I hear it with the rock sound.

It should have been replaced with Free Yourself etc.

I just can't believe all the things people say !

Okay, enough. I have never before been on the verge of deleting a Prince album from my hard drive but that moment has arrived.
This track is atrocious beyond belief.

It was available on 3rdEyeTunes but it's gone now. It rocks harder with a scratchier vocal and an almost electronic coda.

Loved it then, still love it now!

Sounds like an updated Peach to me and out of this particular "clutch" of recent songs (Fixurlifeup, Pretzelbodylogic, Funknroll) it stomps all over them!

That's exactly what I thought when I listened to it.

It sounds like a different mix which better fits the MOR leanings of this album.

I actually like this, he has managed to give it a more R and B sound with the trumpets and softening of girlie vocals and guitars, to make it fit in the album and what do you guys do, bitch about it.

I love this track and have both versions of it (The 2013 extended mix 6.28 includes a great guitar break with the refrain "Youre my driver and I'm your screw) and I really think Prince has moved hell and highwater to make it sound more R and B infused.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

When I read the track list & seen this song , I hoped for the extended remix, bummer. But this version is alright. Pls release the extended remix!

nod I've always loved this song but it sticks out like a sore thumb on Phase 2. Should have been included on Plectrum in place of Boy Trouble.

The HORNZ and/or HORNHEADS will take this song to into the stratosphere in a live or studio performance, stripping out the synths. The raw garage feel on this version is excellent nonetheless. The extended mix (Josh's finest work by far!) is fantastic.

Like 'Marz', 'Dance On', 'Tambourine', and Life Can Be So Nice', this is the album's discordant guitar&drum heavy peice he puts on most great albums, so it works for me. I just imagine Prince drumming and I'm in heaven.

I'm not in love with extended remix, instead I love this version. And, yes, I think it is in the right place: a low-fi rock before the last, more sophisticated tracks.

Absolutely. I am still scratching my head about Screwdriver being left off Plectrum. I also agree that Free Yourself is a better fit for this album.

That having been said, I still don't understand why people hate on Screwdriver so much. It was meant to sound like a garage band demo. I love the raw sound but I also love 3EG to death, so there's that.

I revoke my comments above - it is the original single, not a different mix.
I must be going deaf!

I can only put it down to me mostly listening to the Extended Remix, so if nothing else, putting it on this album has made me listen to it more closely!

As to why he put Screwdriver on this album and not PE, only Prince knows. I still think it actually does fit the album. Perhaps he thought it was too good for 3EG and deserved to be a proper Prince song.

Screwdriver is NOT a 3rdeyegirl track. No matter what you see on the very first videoclip. The priginal track (which is the version on HITnRUN PHASE TWO) has John Blackwell on drums and Ida on bass. how would that fit on PLECTRUMELECTRUM?

To be fair I think it's only just come out that its John Blackwell on drums and not Hannah. I think most associate it with the 3rdEyeGirl project as they were in the videos, Hannah put rehearsal clips on Facebook and they played it on Jimmy Fallon

Ain't gonna front - I didn't know it was JB on drums, so thank for the info. I'll have to visit princevault more often.

Hmm, I didn't give this track a fair chance. I quite like the music, more so than whatever version I heard before. confuse The "I'm your driver, you're my screw" line is still cringe-worthy, though.
