Baltimore - 6/10 Sounds better on the album
Rocknroll Loveaffair - 7/10 Improved version
2Y2D - 8/10 A favorite, been waiting for it to get an official release
Look at me, look at U - 8/10 Great track
Stare - 7/10 another good song, love the bass line
Xtraloveable - 2/10 a skipper, never liked it
Groovy Potential - 10/10 it's finally on a album
When she comes - 8/10 similar to Satisfied and On the couch but much better
Screwdriver - 1/10 Terrible
Black Muse - 9/10 Amazing track, a favorite on the album
Revelation - 10/10 Best Prince ballad since the early 90's
Big City - 10/10 Prefect closing track, really good song

Hitnrun phase 2 gets 9/10
I have the album on repeat, it is a fantastic record
cool

Agreed. There are some new classics on that album. "Sticky Like Glue" is worthy of being on Sign O' The Times.

Thank you for your input.

A couple of middle of the road tracks aside, this, IMHO, is the most mature Prince album we've had in a long time. Some real stone-cold classics on this album. Never mind that he compiled the songs over 4 years- his filter was set to 'high quality' for this one. Phase 1 was Prince trying to be current- Phase 2 is Prince enjoying being Prince. Hallelujah.

9/10? eek

And all due respect, but Black Muse isn't an "amazing track." But "1000 X's & O's" is. (Followed closely by "Hardrocklover")

20Ten puts HitnRun Phase 1 and Phase 2 to shame as an album as a whole.

However I love just as singular tracks, 1000 X's & O's, Hardrocklover, Revelation

I'll first say that I'm impressed that Phase 2 made it out. The Tidal commitment has lasted far longer than I would have guessed and we have two albums and a handful of exclusive singles as a result. It's the most "committed" I've seen Prince in a long time to a particular project/idea.
.
On a first listen, Phase 2 kicks Phase 1 to the curb. Yes, it's more "tame" and contains more songs that any hardcore fan has had for a while, but at least they are more polished versions of them to get them into an "album" status, and I appreciate that. Phase 1's "super experimental" (thanks Hanna) sound was complete garbage to me over the first half.
.
Bundling this for sale with Phase 1 as the only way to purchase it is LUDICROUS. I *want* to buy the new album now, but it's marketed as a PUNISHMENT for owning Phase 1. So yeah - I'll admit to finding it elsewhere to enjoy it until it becomes available in FLAC or physical disk on its own. Where's the love for those fans who bought Phase 1 already? Was it too low of a number to even consider?
.
That negativity aside, I'm thrilled this is out and look forward to Phase 3. Seems like there's a very good chance it'll surface, too.

It's ok, it starts out great, then just starts rambling on and on kind of like The Rainbow Children album lol

I think as songs overall, 1000 X's & O's, Hardrocklover and Revelation are so much more solid imo.

I gotta say it... What's with all the love for Revelation? Maybe it's another case of hype ruining my expectations, but, I'm not feeling the greatness most here are feeling for the track. Same with Big City. Neither of these is a highlight of the album for me. Not hating them, they're okay, nothing special to my ears, though...

Did you listen in a great pair of headphones? We have a decent, small sound room set-up (hubby is a producer/dj, i used to dj) and played it off my phone through our studio monitors and WOW.

Then I listened just in my iphone headphones, and was still blown away ....

I find the warmth of the production and the aural 'space' he allows - its not as dense musically as say adonis and bathsheeba, but this song lays into your ears like warm caramel - takin its time and he sounds as if he and the horn are in a slow dance, conversing intimately...THAT HORN THO - my god - its beautiful, it's not rushed and the song takes its time where every second is allowed to linger...

so, um, yeah then the lyrics are outstanding...prince seems to equate the love and adoration of a woman as pathway to heaven and the orgasm as a way to view/be one with God...at least thats my take on it...and how does a man mange to find those words, and have the nerve to say them outloud...it's breathtaking ---

so alla dat -- it's a real masterpeice. (as u know who would say) smile

Great post, you've convinced me it's a 'masterpiece'!
.
I've also listened to it on headphones and as you described better than I ever could it's like smooth 'warm caramel'
.
His vocals sound as good as ever, I love the way he sings 'it's all coming back to me now' the second time after the guitar solo

I'm a DJ myself and I listened on my 800W Peavey system through a pair of 18" full range Peavey speakers.

As for the lyrics, I haven't listened to them yet. My first few listens are all about the overall sound, I don't start to focus on or pay attention to lyrics until my 5th or 6th listen. If I'm not excited about the music the greatest lyrics in the world won't get me into a song.

You cleverly edited my sentence biggrin
I said it was 'like Satisfied Part II with a Parade twist' and you cut that last bit off. Which the wise Isten also said.

I'm also not overly keen on Satisfied and On The Couch but this is a bit interesting and different IMO

Completely agree!!!

Wanted to make a thread about this long ago... These are boring, filler, elevator songs that have been consistanly popping up on almost every Prince album since 2004.

On The Couch

Satisfied

Mr Goodnight

U're Gonna C Me

Sea Of Everything

What It Feels Like

When She Comes

... all boring, uninspired filler songs.

Only two songs on this record I don't like. Stare, and revelation.

Baltimore is decent. It has its time and ace. The rest I really really like.

Groovy Potential is the bees knees....absolutely awesome. Black muse is just behind it.

I have had a Prince record with this many likes in a looong time.
