Well, when he said "albums still matter" it was just after putting one out that had a great attention to detail and sequence--whatever you may think of the individual songs.

Putting together a mixtape now doesn't mean he didn't really believe that albums matter when he said it, or that he doesn't still believe it now!

Bart's point is ridiculous. By putting out releases in different ways, he is not denouncing the album format. Prince will continue to release albums, individual tracks, live clips, underground remixes and whatever else gets his fancy, for the rest of his life. You would think after 40 years, 50+ albums, 100+ singles/remixes and dozens of side projects, his critics could at least work from an educated principle.

Yep. And moreover, I just listened to the album from start to finish and I think it flows pretty damn well!

And some of our favorite albums have had older tracks on them, or have been patched together from different sources--Sign o the Times being an obvious example

Anyone having an issue downloading the tracks on a Mac?

Safari - it says "MP3" next to each track but when I click it, the song plays in a new window and doesn't download

Chrome/Firefox - it doesn't offer me the ability to download at all

I dont get the negativity. This is amazing and far better than silence and nothing. He's finally embracing everything slowly and we get to hear things as they move through to their full commercial release, its AMAZING and I dont get the complaints.

I'M LOVING ALL OF IT. ITS FUN. F U N You guys remember FUN, right?

smile

I have to really dig deep, deep, deeeep into my memory to remember the last Prince album that was fun(k)... Think...think...think... It was 3121... Gon' be so much fun...

Well I'm taking this whole HNR era as just that... A DRIVE BY in the tweet, instantaneous consumption and move on spirit in which its intended. Some songs we know, but most people do not know them, some are new, or re-purposed but the more intreseting thing is that Prince is embracing different channels of distribution.

Its no big deal that the songs have shown up in other places before...ALL INTERNET CONTENT IS REPURPOSED IN MANY DIFFERENT OUTLETS NOW. He's really jumped into the internet pool again with both feet, and its designed to be consumed in different outlets by different audiences to reach a largely segmented listening base.

Whats fun is Prince on Insta and Twitter - it really is him most of the time, you can't fake his sense of humour and he responds and jokes around, posts and deletes and generally seems to be having a good time with all of it.

I dont have alot of time to track down the boots floating around, periodically I do, but releasing video like he did on Tidal makes Tidal worth every penny. I think everyone needs to let go of the old Prince box & the old style of record making and releasing and just enjoy watching and listening to Prince make his way through the slog of the music business on the internet.

Look we all have to find ways to keep ourselves in the game of our professions as we get older, Prince & Madonna however clunky they appear sometimes are inspiring in their dogged determination to not be pushed to the side. I am cheering Prince on, all the way.

Go to the download store. U can't buy the trax from the window that she them.

Google Tidal download store.

Or swipe the new stuff at top till the pane that show the download store shows up.

Thank you! I was finally able to copy the link Tidal sent me and open it in Chrome (instead of Safari) and it now shows a "download album" option and it works! Thanks again!

BALTIMORE - Didnt like it first time around but sounds a little better as part of an album 5/10

ROCKNROLL LOVE AFFAIR - Another average tune when released but sounds better here 6/10

2Y.2D - Love the Horns on this that sound like Girls & Boys in parts. Its not too bad 7/10

LOOK AT ME LOOK AT U - Love this jazz vibe. Sweet soulful stuff 8/10

STARE - I loved this when it first come out, stripped down & funky horns, love Kiss Sample too 9/10

XTRALOVEABLE - Wasnt keen on this first time around, generic boring stuff 4/10

GROOVY POTENTIAL - Always rated this nice little ditty first time around but goes on a bit 7/10

WHEN SHE COMES - found this a little boring ballad. Forgetable 5/10

SCREWDRIVER - Didnt like this one first time, like old fashioned rocknroll 3/10

BLACK MUSE- This is ok, but nothing groundbreaking. Generic jazzy type track 6/10

REVELATION - Sounds like Kenny G, smooth jazzy stuff, quiet storm track 9/10

BIG CITY - Now this sounds like Prince of old with nice backing vocals that sound like Wendy & Lisa 8/10

.

Total : 77/120

Having heard quite a few of the tracks already I think it has put me off them being in an album. It just seems like a complilation of songs just put together to fill it out. The last 2 songs save the album without doubt.

If I had to chose 10 songs from Phase 1 and Phase 2they would be :-

.

HARD ROCK LOVER

THE X'S FACE

100 X'S AND O'S

JUNE

2Y 2D

STARE

LOOK AT ME LOOK AT U

GROOVY POTENTIAL

REVELATION

BIG CITY

PEace to all,

I don't post alot up here, but I do frequent the forum to keep informed. IMO, I understand when Prince states "Albums still matter". I'm probably telling my age here, but Motown back in the 60's thru the 70's released about 3-4 singles by their artist(ie: The Tempations, The Supremes, Stevie Wonder, ect). An album would then follow which would include those singles with maybe 2 or 3 new songs. Thus, the consumer had a collection of songs which they may have purchased as 45's along with some new tracks(some may call "fillers").

Though, I undersand we live in a digital world where there is no such thing as a "lead or follow up single", the idea of a compilation to Prince is still appealing. Just my random thoughts & not to be taken any other ways. Salute to all of you.

I listened to phase two earlier this afternoon, and although it didn't have my complete attention, I can say I prefer it much more than phase one. At least it sounds like something I'll revisit in the future. Looking forward to given it a more thorough listen in the next few days!

As far as I know the full studio version has never been floating round.
Only the snippet on soundcloud and the live versions from Montreux

This was a huge surprise. Many thoughts flying after first listening but I gotta share my first 2 cents, Big city is worth more than 100 dollars, wow I am blown away and...is Prince still allowed to sing about a dirty hotel room? Thanks Prince.

So, after a first listen - some of it's a bit too light jazzy for my taste. But overall, a massive improvement over part 1 - songs with actual content, no embarrassing moments where he's trying too hard, solid hooks throughout. Really feels like an actual P album - sort of like a pop Rainbow Children. Lots of detail to keep unpacking.

I'm pleased overall with this. I liked Phase 1, but this is more my thing, live instrumentation, more complex arrangements etc. And if I could bow down before a song, I'd bow down before Big City. I love everything about that track, the snippet lived up to its promise for me.

Change it one more time..

Glad he got this album out of his system. Maybe now, he can get over himself and get back to the business of remasters and outtakes.

Can we let BVH do these things? You're not very good at it.
