I gotta say it... What's with all the love for Revelation? Maybe it's another case of hype ruining my expectations, but, I'm not feeling the greatness most here are feeling for the track. Same with Big City. Neither of these is a highlight of the album for me. Not hating them, they're okay, nothing special to my ears, though...

Did you listen in a great pair of headphones? We have a decent, small sound room set-up (hubby is a producer/dj, i used to dj) and played it off my phone through our studio monitors and WOW.

Then I listened just in my iphone headphones, and was still blown away ....

I find the warmth of the production and the aural 'space' he allows - its not as dense musically as say adonis and bathsheeba, but this song lays into your ears like warm caramel - takin its time and he sounds as if he and the horn are in a slow dance, conversing intimately...THAT HORN THO - my god - its beautiful, it's not rushed and the song takes its time where every second is allowed to linger...

so, um, yeah then the lyrics are outstanding...prince seems to equate the love and adoration of a woman as pathway to heaven and the orgasm as a way to view/be one with God...at least thats my take on it...and how does a man mange to find those words, and have the nerve to say them outloud...it's breathtaking ---

so alla dat -- it's a real masterpeice. (as u know who would say) smile

Great post, you've convinced me it's a 'masterpiece'!
.
I've also listened to it on headphones and as you described better than I ever could it's like smooth 'warm caramel'
.
His vocals sound as good as ever, I love the way he sings 'it's all coming back to me now' the second time after the guitar solo

"for in your arms is everything
in your arms
everything
An army of haters one by one
Will do what they will to everyone"

^ His way with this, I melt.
What?

Agreed. There are some new classics on that album. "Sticky Like Glue" is worthy of being on Sign O' The Times.

Sans rap...yes. But that rap kills a song I otherwise adore. Best strut EVER.

Sticky Like Glue I always said it sounded like a Parade era out take...

It was rumoured to have been an 1986 outtake in terms of just the instrumental production, and Prince finished the song in 2010...

Seriously tho...Im not sure Prince even knows. He says he gave it to them. I suppose they can release it when it suits them.

on a sidenote, maybe U can help me out with this Betamax v. VHS issue ive been caught up in.... Seems like it may be up your alley.

Why do u "Dont do downloads"? out of protest, computing ability, wifi access, or just a desire to be difficult?

[Snip - luv4u]

i get that....and they sure as hell dont own Prince.

just dont run around using album sales numbers as justification for the artistry or credibility in a records worth. cuz like I said...justin bieber vanilla ice, weird al, and a whole slew of ass clowns sell lots of records.

Well, I can see how the male brain may skip over this at first listen....it's a female knee melting panty dropper that will have us cleaning his house, making his pasta - putting off breakfast cuz he aint ready to eat (food) yet and clamouring to cook this mans breakfast after we've been up allnight seeing heaven from the inside out smile lololol

Far better? Ok I take back the "all due respect"

"All due respect" is a great phrase, because the amount of respect due changes from situation to situation and person to person. You can still say "all due respect"--just twist your tone a little.

I can't belive Prince put shite like Baltimore and the sublime Black Muse on the same album.

Overall, it's easy listening and as others have mentioned replacing Baltimore with FreeUrself is the right thing to do.

Also bought If Eye Coiuld Get Ure Attention and, nah, prefer the previous version.

Black Muse and Revelation are the highlights for me.
