I do wish the more dry version of Cream was a part of this configuration, it would have slotted in well.

Could a version of Gett Off perhaps replace Something Funky this House Comes as the opening track?

Only if it's a damn-near 10 minuets.

I'll probably give this a listen at some point, but tbh Diamonds and Pearls has always been one of my least favourite Prince albums so I really can't imagine myself enjoying this much more, if at all, than the released version.

I'm with ya'. Was never a big D&P fan probably because it was too commercial at the time.. That said I'am enjoying the arrangement of Insatiable even though this was the one ballad that I skipped.

Interesting. I'll have to track this down. I remember hearing about this configuration YEARS ago, but I've never heard it in totality. Not the best era for P's music, but there are some gems in there (no pun intended)

A Diamonds & Pearls without Tony M sounds dreamy biggrin

It is as long as you skip the first song. The first song has more Tony M. than the entire released version of D&P and the Symbol album combined.

Holy duck fucker, this is exceptional. It is all kinds of better than the official commercial release. It's beautiful, sparse and PRINCE. To me this would have re-captured the quality we heard from Lovesexy. I liked D&P official well enough, but I think I'll always hate it now I know how it could have been.

It does show that over producing stuff can completely fuck it up. That version of Insatiable is incredible.

I couldn't agree with you more. I love it; stripped down. I just wish "Somthing Fonky This Way Comes" was an instrumental without Tony M. Insiable and D&P were aweseome.

Tommy Barberella didn't join the New Power Generation until January 1991 for the Rock In Rio gig when Prince replaced Matt Fink for Barberella for having prior commitments to play the festival in Brazil. So my question is, Who is playing the keyboards on this version of "Live 4 Love" because on the Diamonds And Pearls album, Prince namechecks Barberella to play the synth solo. Also, did Prince on the close to the outro say that the fighter pilots' name was Rick James on 'Live 4 Love"?

Maybe, this weekend, I'll dig up the 'Uncut Diamonds' CD to compare versions...

The song was originally recorded in late 1989..... It's most likely Prince.

I would definitely think it's Prince. Doubt it's Fink at this point

This is fantastic. To address concerns above given how barebone the tracks are, I suppose P didn't consider the tracks finished at this point but wanted to have a first clue of what the album as a whole could sound like (he knew he had nearly one more year before he could release it so I doubt he expected not to rework it).

.

I'm extremely happy this has surfaced, particularly since certain versions (if not all?) weren't circulating at all before.

.

I really hope the 3 further configurations will surface crystal clear soon, if only to have the "final" 8 minutes version of Insatiable biggrin

I have that CD, and haven't listened to it in years, but iirc, the quality was no where near as good as this. Not even worth comparing for quality, in my opinion. That said, the tracklist is very different, so, maybe those tracks are from one of the later configurations that databank mentioned and therefore maybe some are different mixes. Figuring out those details would indeed be worth the comparison, so, please share your findings. wink

Most if not all of the versions on Uncut Diamonds (which I assume are the ones that ended on Work It 2.0) are different from this new leak, somewhat between it and the final, released version.
