PARADE, along with PURPLE RAIN, SIGN O' THE TIMES and 1999 are the BEST albums PRINCE has created.

we get it.. you love this album but Why do you feel the need to repeat it to force your opinion on others?? and putting your opinion all in bold won't make it more valid either.

oh man stop trying to make something out of nothing... r purple rain, 1999, sign o the times not the essentials in Prince's catalogue? musically, artistically, and critically?? or is it just opinion?? no wait, MPLS SOUND, New Power Soul and Planet Earth are better than all three of those albums, how about that.

Nonsense. What other people think about a piece of music should have no bearing on how it makes you feel. Unless you are a sheep of course.

Did I mention Parade is the best album ever? What if 30 million people said the same thing? Would you then agree?

BAA!

I know it shouldn't... But some members using all sorts of hyperboles seemed to me like they were trying to shove their opinions down the throats of those who don't like it as much..

and I'll quote you "This album tops the pile for me. There is nothing better made by anyone, anywhere, ever. They should put this album on the next deep space probe (as a streaming service, one month free trial) so that those pesky aliens can see we are a race of pure artistic funkists."

I mean what else am i suppose to read into that?

As for the "popularity" argument.. it's valid to wonder how meaningful this album is outside of Prince hardcore fan territory if your gona claim that "there's nothing better made by anyone anywhere" ever...

How about this, don't read anything into it and just accept someone's opinion doesn't agree with yours. If I said pasta was the best food ever, would you get all worked up and claim I was trying to force my love for pasta down your throat? And no, I couldn't care less what the rest of the world thinks of pasta, nor should I consider it just to validate my taste for it. Seriously, you're way too easily offended, and as a consequence completely derailed the thread. BAA.

..

so you don't believe in opinions?

Purple Rain and Parade are in different categories.. Purple Rain gets much more adulation

than Parade for those two albums to be compared

and even if someone told me he dosen't like Purple Rain.. It's his right not to. Why should i feel offended by that?

What else are you supposed to read into that? Gee, I don't know, maybe the fact that Rebeljuice was EXPRESSING HIS FUCKING OPINION?! Do we need to add "This is my opinion: _____" before every post just to get through your goddamn skull that there's an opinion about to be expressed?

You really think people expressing their opinions about Parade qualifies as forcing something down someone's throat? That's pretty fucked up. Do you need another pillow to sit on?

Prince really said that?? where did u get this quote?

lol Hahahahaha. Nice try. In case you haven't noticed, you've got multiple people making you look like a tool by now, all because you've talked yourself into a corner. Keep digging though; it's entertaining. And none of this changes the fact that Parade is Prince's strongest album and the best example of him blending genres.

Maybe you should listen to a Parade a few more times. How can you be a "true funk soldier" if you don't understand the brilliance of Parade? Sounds like you never made it out of funk boot camp.

Also, in all my long years on the Org, I've never seen anyone throw such a pathetic hissy fit when others' opinions were different than there's. It's especially funny that it's all about Parade. Mommy, mommy, I went against consensus and acted all high and mighty and now everyone's mad at me, mommy, mommy. This shit is priceless.

Now that the children have gone to bed and only the adults remain, I'd like to get back on topic. I don't think you can say Parade is underdeveloped, even the first few songs, because it's an ALBUM meant to be taken in as an ALBUM. The way those songs blend together is masterful.

How does Christopher Tracey's Parade feel underdeveloped?

When I first heard it, it sounded like an explosion of colors, there were sound coming from everywhere. What could actually be added to make it sound 'developed?
* remember it was developed to fit a piece in the film Under the Cherry Moon.
1.) Do you think it filled the spot well?

.

New Position: pulling from Carribean influences (Lisa and/or Wendy pulled this one out of the vault via 81) Wendy was skilled on the steel drums. Carribbean music of this vein tends to be more stripped. What could actually be added to make it sound 'developed?'
1.) Do U think it filled the spot in the movie well?
2.) I think having the band playing in the movie @ Mary Sharon's party would have definately made the movie much better

.

I Wonder U

I heard the piece before the strings and many other instruments were added. And I LOVE it, it's very raw and steamy. With all the added instruments, I love it even more, it feels like a whirlwind of desire, poetic, chic. And if it was longer I think it would have taken something away. It's shortness makes me want it more. I didn't like the added piece on the tour so much. I wish it would have been allowed to continue to build musically with some breathing and orgasm, maybe some electric guitar(like AnotherLover or the Flesh session cut:Up From Below) But what could have been done to make it fell 'developed'?
1.) Do you think it fit the scene in the movie?

.

Under the Cherry Moon
Perfectly stripped. You hear it in different parts of the movie including the opening intro(before An Honest Man) I love the sharp crispness of the song. Prince showing more of his piano over guitar skills.

Parade is a good album but it could have been a great album.

If you listen to the outtakes from that era so many of them are European sounding and quite haunting.

Parade could have been a dark album with some very interesting themes.

I feel that after various album configutations, a slice of the darker elements were removed and the glossy hits added! With credit to Prince Vault, here is the 1 May 1985 configutation:

  1. Wendy's Parade
  2. New Position
  3. I Wonder U
  4. Under The Cherry Moon
  5. Others Here With Us
  6. Life Can Be So Nice
  7. Sometimes It Snows In April
  8. Old Friends 4 Sale
  9. All My Dreams

The later added hits, then made a much more commercial album. After all, the tracks that were singles were added very much later.

I would have prefered a much darker European sounding album to be released and then the singles could have been put on to the next album.

The problem here is that Prince was recording at a crazy rate, but it would have been cool to have squeezed in another album before SOTT, but even that was cut from a 3 disc set.

lol wink lol

[Edited 10/6/15 3:23am]

The piano seduction piece at the beginning, I believe it's An Honest Man? would have been lovely on the album
