Based on the original yestion... YES,... because most people who appreciate music aren't stuck in 1984.

Please,Prince....let US be the judge of that!! pray Stop holding back all of that 'amazing' music!! lol

I remember reading that interview. I thought it was something recently made around 2009

.

The Divine is an unreleased song recorded in 1996 at Paisley Park Studios, Chanhassen, MN, USA (during sessions for the Emancipation album). Eric Leeds added saxophone overdubs on 14 August, 1996, also at Paisley Park Studios. The song is believed to have been intended for Emancipation, but was not included on any known configurations. In a 2008 interview with USA Today (primarily designed to promote the 21 Nights book), Prince played the interviewer several tracks from his next album Lotusflow3r, and mentioned, but declined to play, a song called The Divine, described as "a song so "mind-blowing" he doubts he'll ever release it." It is not clear if this is the same track recorded in 1996 or not, however. The track remains unreleased-PrinceVault

judging by the fact that he is a willow smith fan and thinks his best song is always the next one... i wouldnt take princes word on the divine

I'm feeling a bit fammy™

It would certainly be interesting to see what he chose not to put on an album. When for ever toe-curling EDM track that found it's way to daylight there might be a lush heart-breaking piano ballad or a simple acoustic number withering away in a dark corner of PP.

That is probably the case. Perhaps even more so in the 90's and 00's when Prince struggled to follow trends in the music he released which suggest to me that there might be some quite different music tucked away in the vault.

I'd be curious, but not overly bothered. Here's the difference between Vault expectations from the 'great period' and more recently (although I'd date the collapse later than 1995).

1. We KNOW a shitload of Vault tracks exist until '95. We can't be certain of the remainder.
2. We KNOW the Vault tracks from his best period include tons of great stuff. We know nothing of the remainder.
3. We KNOW the golden period of The Vault was matched by arguably the greatest run of official release in rock history. The subsequent official releases have fallen a long way, and there's no reason to believe that a hypothetical vault of any significant size from this period would buck the trend.

Are we operating that the vault from this time period also consists of video (concerts, music videos, projects)... then Absolutely. Prince's released recorded material may have waned in the past 20 years (opinion) but he is still arguably one of the most talented live musicisians of this generation. There are certainly live performances that we would all love to experience from this time period.

We dont here that much anymore about the stuff he DIDN'T make, or alyernative album configurations, which doesn't mean there aren't tonnes of aborted album or tracks put in the vault still. The Divine, a track he put away a few years ago sounds pretty cool. And there's some stuff like re-recordings, remember that absurdly tight funky new Sexy MF he did in 2007, with the 'everybody dance now' sample, Maceo all over it... And then there's all the concerts he's filmed etc.

I'd say the modern era vault stuff is just as good, but it depends whether you like his work as a whole or just like the 80's or 90's stuff. I tend to like pretty much everything he's done, i'm loving Hit n Run. I just think it's a cool little funky album that sounds so good on big big speakers.

So i'm fairly interested in the vault stuff from Rave onwards.

Here we are, his fans, banging on at him to release the vault when Prince is thinking you already have half of it on bootlegs you mother furthas, all that music that I was letting simmer and mature for use in the future is gone. Dead and buried because it leaked and now youve heard it. Its mystery and magic stolen away. I had years and years of material lined up for future use and its dead and buried! Rave? NPS? Emancipation? Planet Earth? Think how good they could have been if I had all those great songs to choose from!.... Holy ducking ship! They could have been masterpeices!.... And the stuff you didnt get your grimey, shippy hands on that you have never heard? I AM releasing it you sick ducks!.... I release it all the time! You can hear it on the albums I release, you just dont know what is from the vault and what is new. THATS whats in the vault! Stuff that is unfinished or waiting for an album suited to it. Thats what the vault is for Gosh Darn It! You will get it ALL eventually, just let these songs breathe and find a home! Ducking Bell, you fans like to break my testacles...

Is that you, Prince? wink .

I suspect this is closer to the truth than many think. I wouldn't be at all surprised if many of the 'new' songs he's released in the last decade or so aren't reworked/ completed material from earlier years.

My guess is, at his age, the (good) new songs aren't coming to him so fast as they did. It's a common thing with older, previously prolific artists. Look at Stevie Wonder. Prince probably has the occasional explosion of creativity, as in 2001-03 and again in 2005-06 (Lotusflower stuff), but other than that, he's perhaps not always the best person to know what of his new stuff is good enough to release and what ain't. Being too close to the 'explosion', as it were.

So yeah, I bet there's a great album's worth of unreleased music we've never heard of from 2004 to today.

That's a good point. Wasn't it Michael Koppelman who said Prince routinely locked away superior material than what he was releasing?

I´d love to see him release more unedited, unchanged vault material and ESPECIALLY stuff that was recorded after 1995 because at that point he had gotten rid of some of the staff that was responsible for the leaks, so even though I´m more into his older stuff, it is the newer stuff I´m curious about because we know very little about his post-1996 material.

You're like "let's keep it real folks", your post is predicted on your opinion that there can be nothing of value. So you're daring people to have the "bad taste" of being curious. Few people deny the quality of released music is lower, but that doesn't mean he did not shelve something interesting, for whatever reason. There's been lots of tracks that should have been released and were not historically, so I would not be so categorical personally, since you asked.

not daring anything...merely asking what music were you interested in hearing during that era... i guess you have nothing...

Did you really just say that your opinion is actually a true fact?

Like "jughead" (because it is pre-1995) is a better song than "3121" (because it is post 1995)?

but that he just had to much good stuff and not enough albums to put it out on

Maybe. I like the b-sides from Around the World in a Day better than most of what is on the album.

i will agree with that... B sides in the 80s IMO where better than the singles...

let's keep real folks...musically, Prince music has not been all that great, declining sales, limited radio play, no videos and his continuing "dicking" of his fans... his albums since TGE have been for the most part weak...so any music that he's put in the vault since then I would only guess would be of the same caliber...

Prince needs to digitize his music in the vault...put in a cataloge and follow an Itunes method of getting to the fans and knock off this dumb shit Tidal...let his fans pick whatever he's recorded...fans get what they want and the purple prick gets paid. done and done.

Yes, I do. I just wish u'd have phrased ur OP with more intellectual honesty. Asking for that isn't overthinking in my world.

My interest regarding vault material is just as high for post 1995 than for pre 1995, similarly to my interest for released material being as high for post 1995 as for pre 1995.
