Album's over. Impressions:
-Slightly better than expected . -WAY TO NOISY. both on the mastering side and the production side. Certain songs (specifically LIKE A MACK) have the foundations of a decent groove via the live instruments, but is cluttered with voice and sound effects . -IMO from TCBU TO MR. Nelson might be the one of the worst song sequences he's put out . -Songs (like June for example) are too short and/or abruptly end right when you're starting to get into it. . -Lastly, other that 1000 X's and O's (best song on the album) it doesn't have that "Prince" feel that all his albums have. It truly felt like a Josh album with Prince singing over his beats . Final verdict: Slighly better than expected, but rather dissapointing. 2/5. [Edited 9/6/15 21:37pm] |

Agree with you. A little dissapointed, but I'm just taking this as mainly a remix album, waiting for what's next to come...

This sounds like a Josh album with Prince on vocals and guitar.
1000 hugs and kisses is better then expected. I like his vocals on it. Probably like the original better just because, but this one is good.
Last 2 tracks are strong. The rest is average at best, imo. Short and simple album really.
It's fitting the NPGMC stuff is being released on Tidal at the same time. This album fits in line with that stuff for sure.

I'm not disappointed at all. This is a really fun album! I like the noisy, enegetic sound - its upbeat and fresh.... The last 2 tracks are masterpieces, followed by HARDROCK LOVER. All the other tracks are fun party music. Instant mood lifter, IMO

This pisses me off, this cheap esoteric motherfucker. Why can't he releaase this shit commercially except on some dumb ass streaming thing. Most of us 40 year old people have no idea what this is. I though Prince was done with the stupid ass boutique releasing. . Whats next a fucking treasure hint in the Bahamas forthe next album and shit. . Some of those titles sound like those on some ghetto ass shit hop album. I got their the feeling their is very little for non black fans of Prince on this album. Sounds fresh, alive... I like it! The purple master can still release good albums in 2015, it really is amazing when you think about it. Almost 40 years since his first.
Anyone notice on Prince's Tidal page there are 5 versions of Prince in the same art design as Hitnrun?
One of them is Purple Rain and the other is Controversy... Could this mean anything about future phases? Nobody I know gun' bite | |
