Last night I got sauced and had "Mr. Goodnight" tatooed directly below my belly button. I'm already starting to regret that decision.

Planet Earth really feels like the second half of Musicology and 3121 combined in one, AKA all the boring songs...

How do you know what jellyfish from the other side of the Universe can and cannot do?! They may very well be vastly different from their Terran cousins for all we know.

I bet they like Planet Earth though.

Natural selection would not allow a feeble-bodied Cnidaria like a jellyfish to have such intelligence. Even with their fatuous relationship to their Terran cousins.

You don't have to be intelligent to dig Planet Earth.

^ what.... really.... I mean really... nuts

imo PE is just garbage,

For You,
Parade,
Around The World In A Day,
Batman,
Come

these are fine, are all so excellent. Very much better than PE. wink

Lol yea I jnow my taste in prince music is very different.

atwiad did not do it for me. The song mountains makes me cringe
parade . . Feels unfinished to me that lacks funk bt the sequencing is great.
batman seems a little too by the numbers

but I did enjoy these albums. Its just that planet earth has a lot of my
favorites on there. I can listen to the album with out a skip

R u f-ing kidding me? I will never understand folks who prefer the first half of those albums to the second. The Marrying Kind, If Eye ..., On the Couch, Reflection, The Word, The Dance, etc. Take songs 7-12 of both albums, and add Call My Name, Musicology, and 3121 the song -- now you have a slammin album.

That would be, btw, much better than Planet Earth. I like the One U Wanna C and sort of Chelsea Rodgers, but not enough to risk listening to that last song, Revelation or whatever it's called. "The main problem with war is that nobody wins ..."? Stop, just stop. Next.

Haha, that is a horrible line! I think (hope?) what he means is that there are no winners in war.

A short breakdown of the tracks:

1. Planet Earth - A failed attempt of trying to sound like the Crystal Ball intro, and just gets strange... Then boring.

2. Guitar - The intro was the only thing that gave any life to this WHOLE album. Nothing special, vocals and lyrics very weak, guitar playing we've heard it all before... Thank God for DREAMER a couple years later.

3. Somewhere Here on Earth - The song that everyone will say is AMAZING... It's a nice song, starts to get a bit corny at the end... Nothing new, nothing special. It's good because it's on a BAD album. If this song was on Lotusflow3r or 3121 or 20Ten it would be forgotten.

4. The One U Wanna C - Such a corny song. So cliche, like a circus song... Sounds like a bad Vegas song from the 1960's.

5. Future Baby Mama - Can't believe this actually won a Grammy... Out of all the R&B songs Prince made this song won a Grammy?? Must've been nothing good released that year... This song Prince has done over and over again, as a matter of fact if you played the last slow songs on Musicology and 3121... They sound all the same.

6. Mr. Goodnight- So boring don't even remember what it sounds like anymore...

7. All The Midnights In The World - I think he sang the whole song in those opening 5 seconds... Another boring song.

8. Chelsea Rodgers - I'll admit, when I first listened to this it had a little energy, at least to dance to... Nothing more. Not a strong song, just vibrant on a bland album.

9. Lion of Juadh - Zzzzzzzzzzz

10. Resolution - Wake me up when this whole album is over.

My rating is a 2/4 Stars just for the intro of guitar and Somewhere Here on Earth. As an album as a WHOLE... The most dull Prince album ever recorded. For those saying AOA sounds plastic... Then Planet Earth is mold.

This is an album for those mid age house wifes that enjoy opening the windows on a spring day doing some chores and cleaning. Nothing memorable to stop to sing and dance, only to listen as background music to pass the time, and never have the craving to willingly pull this album out and play it again.

Future Baby Mama is stunning. And Planet Earth sounds absolutely nothing like Crystal Ball. And Chelsea Rodgers RIPS. The horn charts are sick.

Occupy Alphabet Street!

I agree with toejam on this one...it starts good but ends badly. I don't think it is bad but it is not very good. It did give me one of my favorite songs though..I love "The One U Wanna C"

Yes PE is a turd, so is Grafiti Bridge, MPLSound, Rave, Musicology and Xpectation.

I would like to remind the very critical people on here that it is just my opinion...

And this is the album where he got Lisa and Wendy involved again. That was supposed to be the second coming. It's too bad the songs were weak.

Planet Earth might be one of the worst albums ever made by anybody, not just by Prince.

What makes it even worse, is that it's not aggressively terrible, i.e., it doesn't try to achieve something and fail, it simply thinks that existing in enough to gain credit. It can't even be BOTHERED to be really bad.

Every now and again I think maybe I've been too harsh on it, like it can't be that bad, and every time I put in on I'm left gasping for air, having been averaged almost to death by it.

And it leaves a funny smell in the room.

[Edited 8/25/15 12:54pm]

Really??? you think stuff by Justin Bieber/ Kanye West/ or any other crappy "artist" from the 2000's is better than Planet Earth.

I'll agree Planet Earth is pretty shit. The only song I love from that album is Somewhere Here On Earth, and Chelsea Rodgers. Lion of Judah wouldn't be horrible if it wasn't for the corny delivery of the chorus. Resolution is absolute garbage. I just can't believe people are saying it's just as bad as Musicology, 3121 or AOA. That is some of his most consistent work of the 2000's!!

I don't even think Planet Earth is musically BAD... I know I'm contradicting myself... It's just the first Prince album to really BORE me... That's the main issue.

Even his "BAD" albums aren't boring...

Don't be daft. Is that what I said? Stop making shit up.

Planet Earth may not be as arse-curdlingly awful as your average Justin Kanye album, but the difference is those guys are talentless hack puppet robots, and no-one with a brain expects anything useful, clever or talented to be excreted from them... when someone with a talent as immense as Prince makes Planet Earth, you just have to weep for the waste of talent and fall from grace on display.... in filmic terms it's like Quentin Tarantino... how does someone so talented, who started out so strong, end up making the series of abortions that are Death Proof/Inglourious Basterds/Django Unchained? He could be so good, and yet he lets himself be deliver just 'enough'. That should be enough to make anyone mad.

In short, it's a shame (and is made worse) because there's talent there, that's being frittered away on arse-twaddle.

Do I get bonus points for getting two arse-mentions in there?

I agree... I didn't word it correctly obviously, but people have opinions based on their standards of musical taste... Whenever I compare or listen to a Prince album I always analyze it if it lives up to his standards of his musical talents... Planet Earth did not.
