"The Line" - prince, Sheila E, and Boni Boyer

i used to not like this song, until i realized i had access to an alternate version (The Line #2)..

now i love it...Boni Boyer always was one of my favorite voices on Prince songs around the Lovesexy era...i still keep LeGrind in constant rotation because of her

Lovesexy (the song) came up in my playlist after not hearing it for ages and I can't get it out of my head now. It's so fun and funky. What was your last rediscovery?

The original sequence of parade which includes all my dreams, there's others here with us and old friends for sale in the original sequence.

The music between 1985-1987 was amazing.

Do it all Night

Cool jazzy underrated little ditty on an absolutely brilliant album.

I can't believe he was only 21 when he made this album- pure genius.

Civilisation Phaze III by Frank Zappa

oh shit what an answer. i got this a couple of years ago and just let myself take it all in. Mostly when I listen to it I like to go through the whole album. I like how it progresses to creepier and creepier soundscapes until you're at the last song of the last album he finished right before he died & it's called "Beat The Reaper". Damn.

Sounds really great on a nice system too. I know this was kind of a "joke" answer on a Prince thread, but I couldn't help commenting on what I think is a brilliant piece of work made by a dying genius at the end of his short life. It's also a great realization of how his work on the Synclavier had progressed from his first released projects utilizing it. Makes you wonder what kind of stuff Frank might have come up with had he lived to experiment with all of the incredible technology which started emerging not long after he died. Damn.

.

sorry to the OP for my off-topic enrty here

Hello (12" version). Never liked it as a kid but last year it finally clicked with me.

You gotta love the inhaled ultrasonic throat noises he does on the final reprise of the chorus.
He sound like he's got his balls trapped into a door or something.

Thinking about it, the whole manic coda could be Prince's first "real" attempt at rap.
Even if it eventually blends into speak over.

I wish we could make a compilation just out of the live takes of "Shhh".
I have a R'n'B one, one that sends all Purple Rain guitar solos down the drain,
An almost "Just My Imagination - Small Club" out of this world version...

"Shhh" is the Purple Rain of the 90's, not "Gold".

Love ... Thy Will Be Done, Prince version is my most recent rediscovery, too. I never got into it at all before. The beginning was too, um, monotone for me. And the title was kind of weird. It came up on my phone the other day, and I was very impressed. It crescendos very nicely. Lyrics are pretty cool. Vocals are excellent.

There's a live audience taken in Paris, that's absolutely astounding.

He starts out by chanting "Hey! Français!", and the audience is terrific.

I didn't like the sped up version (with Sonny T.), but here...

He kills it on the guitar, and it's rare to really hear him sing out his guts.
Impressive.

And the audience handclaps at the end... Fuck, this live take is almost the definitive version to me.

If someone happens to know which french concert this version is taken from, please give me details.
It looks like I'm talking about August 21st, 1998.
Is this from a rewnowned bootleg?

This should have landed on Emancipation instead of "One Of Us",
but all the other Emancipation ballads would have pale in comparison.

^ Ok, not only that, but listening to it a second time,
this is now "Guitar State of Grace" #2 to me, right after "Just My Imagination - Small Club".

On headphones the infra-bass are great, you get a feeling of the room,
the whole thing sounds perfect, defaults and all. Musicians are on the same track.
That has to be Michael B. and Sonny T.

Damn, that's a discovery of totally different version!

It's funny you mention this version of Love Thy Will Be Done - I've had it on repeat today. I agree on it being the definitive version.
.
I've got it filed as Le Zenith, Paris 98, NPS tour.

Scandalous Sex Suite, parts 2 & 3. The cheesy sex talk on part 1 made me disinterested in the rest for years. Then last year, I rediscovered that guitar solo on the 3rd part and then later all the vocals on the middle section. That is some awesome stuff.

Nice afternoon cut isn't it? smile I think his debut and sophomore make for great afternoon music.
