I think you honestly need to check yourself into a sanatorium. You seem to post stuff just to get a reaction, any reaction, maybe just to prove to yourself that someone cares what you think. I'm sure the people in Baltimore that the song is intended for will appreciate the song as his performance tonight, that's really all that matters.

I'm trying to show how bad these lyrics are. And to help define this 'raw song filled with everything that Prince needed to get out'.

If you are not insulted by the lyrics or honestly impressed by the deep emotions here on show, then you and all the others need to check yourselves into a sanatorium.

There are opinions, and then there's tripe. We get that you don't like it, but to assume you know what's in someone's mind and assume that they are making a mockery or/insulting the people of Balitmore is just ludicrous.

Seriously. What the fuck is wrong with you, Pentacle? How did Prince make a mockery out of this? OK, so it's not "What's Going On?", "Blowin in the Wind", "Sunday Bloody Sunday or "There's a Riot Goin On" but it's not "Do They Know It's Christmas" or "We Are the World" either. Or even "Sign O the Times".

.

What did YOU do to help the situation, assuming you agree there is one? You seem like a fun guy. I bet you're a blast to hang out with at parties.

.

The real proof about whether this is or is not a mockery or blatant exploitationdepends on where the all money winds up, not the song. Also, "PC" is another way of saying "be polite". Nothing wrong with that.

.

edit: meant to wrtite "PC" not "PR"

I think that quote was referring to the fact that Prince was reportedly moved to come up with the song on short notice; even working out the kinks of the song in front of a reporter. I don't think they meant "raw" meaning it was James Brown's "Black And I'm Proud..."

Whether u think the song is shit is a whole other discussion....

My commentary has been on my thinking reviews that state the song is "a COMPLETE Masterpiece" "a funky banger" "a raw and spontaneous expression of all the singer needed to get out" are shit.

I wasn't trying to read too much into it. Just going by your post. If u think the song is shit, it's all good.

THE SECOND AMENDMENT IS DATED AND CONSERVATIVE THINKING IS TOTALLY FLAWED, AS MUCH LOWER CRIME RATES ACROSS WESTERN EUROPE (NORTHERN EUROPE), WHERE GUNS ARE VERY HEAVILY CONTROLLED AND IN A NUMBER OF CASES PROHIBITED ALTOGETHER, SHOW. THE U.S. IS SUCH A FANTASTIC COUNTRY, BUT IT IS HAS YET TO BECOME FULLY CIVILIZED :-)

AS FOR THE LINE ABOUT MICHAEL BROWN AND FREEDY GRAY, HERE AGAIN THE ISSUE IS NOT WHETHER THESE GUYS WERE ANGELS, IT IS ABOUT WHETHER THE RULE OF LAW APPLIES TO EVERYONE EQUALLY AND THE POLICY CAN BE TRUSTED TO ENFORCE IT IN A SUPPOSEDLY CIVILIZED COUNTRY. BUT THAT AGAIN DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WELL UNDERSTOOD BY A NUMBER OF MY FELLOW AMERICANS...

SO THANK YOU SO MUCH PRINCE!

PLUS: this is actually a good song, nothing memorable and groundbreaking to be sure, but it is moving and features beautiful, very melodic guitar work

My explanation of this song brings a comparison to Prince's episode of The New Girl. On that show, he was the feminine/romantic/soft/I. butterfly/perfume & poetry version of Prince. That's what the Baltimore song is.

What was called for in this case was probably more of the F-U/this is BS/I'm pissed/hard rock version of Prince.

I really don't understand why prince is saying take away guns in his Baltimore song! Guns didn't kill Freddie Gray! If guns should be taken away then so should everything killing people should be taken away like the " the police, knifes, cars, drugs, bad foods, sugar, liquor, wars, greed, and so on!" There are numerous things people are using to kill people! Guns is just one of them! It's not the material objects it's people killing people with their weapon of choice and guns is not always the weapon of choice but these other weapons are rarely promoted in the media like guns are! So what needs to be taken away is people that will take the life of another person without a second thought! They know who they are!!!!!
SuperFurryAnimail the quote you made about the government is now being said that I said it by FurryFine! I don't know if that orger can read but your statment is not my statement!

The government places poison (hydrofluoric acid) in the water, food and drinks have plenty of grade A carcinogens in them, vaccination is another subject that is debatable and the government is pushing to force everyone to have them.

We buy Hydrofluoric Acid from China and place it in the water. Because drinking it is good for teeth. That is like drinking a bottle of sun block to protect your skin. I do topical treatment on teeth with fluoride but I would never drink it daily! Another good example of a government doing stupid things because they are bought off by corporations and off shore bankers.

When one is sick, they're tired and worn out. Their performance isn't guaranteed to be like usual. They may have to take leave from work.
One's music comes from one's mind.
A majority of fans are complaining about the song. Some could say it's not as his usual...
So, what do you think is wrong with Prince? He's obviously fed up of all the police brutality but if he's feeling something like that, he's capable of creating a greater song... I don't think that's the reason why the music isn't "as good" as usual.
Maybe it's because he's worried about Joni Mitchell?
Maybe it's a personal issue.

In March, it was announced that Prince and 3EG would go on a Hit & Run tour. But, it was 4 shows in Louisville, and I think a couple weeks later something else happened. What if it's his health? Maybe there's something that's on and off.
Possibilities are endless since a majority of us are not close to him.

Whatever it is, and if something is bugging him, I think I speak for everyone when I say I hope he gets better.

...Or maybe nothing is wrong with him and it's just not his best work...

Writing lyrics equally as offensive as Prince's (andwith a deeply Republican slant, according to Herb) make me like Prince?

To me here's the thing, beyond all the pettiness, Prince has put a lot of his time and effort on this. I've never put on a concert much less perform, but it sounds like a shit load of work.

To do all this at a moments notice for the benefit of the people of Baltimore and a show of support to try and change all wrongs of police brutality is a big FN deal. What have you whiners done? ...I mean besides sitting on your ass whining?

I like the Baltimore song but I don't like the part about the guns being taken away for this reason Freddie Gray didn't have a gun something black people are always accused of when they are being arrested and he wasn't killed with a gun so why is that even in the song? I think Prince did a good job on the song but that part of it should have been left out and the real facts of his killing should have been mentioned! Oh and Prince didn't say he had a gun just for the record and I'm not accusing Prince of saying that either so I'm not miss quoted!

Yes, it sounds like a shitload of work. For the crew setting up the stage and the ligths, for the people in the venue, for the people of the town guiding the concertgoers to and from the venue etc.

Pentacle, your profile shows that you have written at least 25 messages on this thread. What the f is the point in that? If you hate the song move on. If you hate everything Prince does, move on. Much healthier than obsessing on something that doesn't make you happy. And by the way, your Joni Mitchell message was as funny as it was clever...

love the vocals and the style and overall sound of the song.

the fatal flaw is the line "Let's take all the guns away" that is not going to fly...sorry. and it has no place in this song really... what he has done with that line (sang twice) and turned off many that have respect for the right to bear arms.

It is also flat out stupid: who is going to take the guns? Oh the Government! Okay... so they will still have them then? But this is about the government killing people (in this case with out a gun and in the other case the victim did try to take the gun from the cop.) So now ONLY cops have guns! That has to better.

and that silly "if there ain't no Justice..."

I do like the sound...the guitar is lacking but it kind of fits....I wish the bit at the end was a bit lower and more scratchy sounding

over all 3 out of 5

In many countries, basically only the police and the military have guns except for hunters (rifles). Not incidentally, they don't have the US's murder and suicide rates.

The line could be interpreted as "let's not have guns in Baltimore right now, we need peace."

The line about justice and peace, could be more than rioting. Peace is more than the absence of war, injustice means that true peace (in one self) is not happening, it's upsetting and unsettling, riots or not.
