Art Official Age and PlectrumElectrum Chart Updates

Okay, you knew it was coming...I'll just stick with the chart updates for Art Official Age for now, 3rdEyeGirl can be someone else's project:

US Amazon (pre-sales):

#146 in Music (See Top 100 in Music)

This thread may not last but I thought I would get it our there.

Any other chart information?

The album is #25 on iTunes and "Clouds" is #140 (up from 146 a few hours ago). I don't believe the album will be able to debut at #1 on Billboard since Blake Shelton has a new album out that week as well, but Art Official Age and Plectrum Electrum should give Prince his 15th and 16th top ten albums, moving him higher up on the all-time list. For an artist like Prince, all-time standings are where it's at nowadays (as opposed to competing with Iggy Azalea and Ariana Grande for top 40 airplay).

If you're curious, here are the current standings:

MOST TOP 10 ALBUMS ON THE BILLBOARD 200

Rolling Stones 36

Frank Sinatra 33

Barbra Streisand 32

The Beatles 31

Elvis Presley 27

Madonna 20
Bob Dylan 20

Paul McCartney 19

George Strait 18
Elton John 18
Bruce Springsteen

Neil Diamond 17
Rod Stewart 17

Mariah Carey 17

Johnny Mathis 16

Dave Matthews 15
Tim McGraw 15
Jay Z 15
Garth Brooks 15
R Kelly 15

Eric Clapton 15

Prince 14
Van Halen 14
The Beach Boys 14
Toby Keith 14
Barry Manilow 14

Santana 13
Led Zeppelin 13

Chicago 12
Rush 12
Alan Jackson 12
Bon Jovi 12
Korn 12
Celine Dion 12
Mary J Blige 12

Wow, Garth Brooks has 21 less albums than the Rolling Stones but has sold more albums than anyone but Elvis Presley?

Man, his album sales must have been through the roof on almost every one!

How many albums has Garth Brooks made? Remember the Stones have been around since 1962 and The Beatles quit in 1970, so it makes sense that the Stones have more top ten albums than anyone. Brooks' albums may have sold more, but he needs a few more years to beat the Stones.

This isn't a list of studio albums, it's a list of albums that made the top ten on the Billboard 200 chart. So yes, it includes greatest hits, live albums, and soundtracks where she is the main artist (like Purple Rain or Whitney's Bodyguard soundtrack).

Madonna's 20 top ten albums are:

Madonna (#8)

Like A Virgin (#1)

True Blue (#1)

Who's That Girl (Soundtrack)(#7)

Like A Prayer (#1)

I'm Breathless (Dick Tracy Soundtrack)(#2)

The Immaculate Collection (Greatest Hits)(#2)

Erotica (#2)

Bedtime Stories (#3)

Something To Remember (Greatest Hits)(#6)

Evita (Soundtrack)(#2)

Ray Of Light (#2)

Music (#1)

GHV2 (Greatest Hits)(#7)

American Life (#1)

Confessions On A Dance Floor (#1)

Hard Candy (#1)

Celebration (Greatest Hits)(#7)

Sticky & Sweet Tour (Live Album)(#10)

MDNA (#1)

Thanks for clearing that up, as there was no mention as to what qualified. Where did you source this information from?

I'm sure I read somewhere that Paul Macartney actually has 48 top 10 albums if you include everything he appeared on as a musician (work with the Beatles, solo artist, Wings etc) - no less merit than the same inflation of Madonna's figures methinks wink

These Macau people are really impressive. And look at the Greek! Not only do they exist, they also buy Prince's music! Awesome. As for Spain, we have a reasonably good number 41, but that doesn't mean nothing, since here everybody steals music. I guess you can get to number 41 with only 4 copies sold.

These are stats from Joel Whitburn's Billboard 200 chart book. Madonna's figures aren't inflated at all; she released 20 albums that made the top ten. "The Immaculate Collection" was no less of a top ten Madonna album than "Bedtimes Stories". It would only be inflated for her if it didn't apply to everyone (Dave Matthews made the list thanks to all his live albums, and most artists on the list have charted several greatest hits compilations).

McCartney's number isn't as big because Paul McCartney and the Beatles are two distinct, separate acts. I don't think anyone is arguing that Ringo Starr has 33 top ten albums (he had two on his own).

A lot of record shops classify Purple Rain as Soul/R'n'B. It's not easy with prince albums, they're a mixed bag of styles.
