If he really wants to reach a younger audience, they should encourage him to do more things on the Internet. And more professional than that Facebook Q&A or the yahoo live stream. A lot of young folks don't watch television anymore.

Although the chart positions are not that bad and the sales numbers in todays perspective ok,

i still think the promotion did not work. Just doing promotion via social networks and some press,

seems not enough to reach many of the fans...

He appears on arsenio, kimmel, jimmy fallon, promo tour in the UK, but this months ahead of his big release!! Crazy as always !!

But on the other side, the best thing is that we got one great album and a lot of good press for P, too....

I know it's charted higher but the important thing is sales numbers, it should sell at least 1 million worldwide to match his recent output but based on what we are seeing in the UK ( his second biggest market) it looks like he might struggle to sell a quarter of a million worldwide! The record industry is finished! Look at Michael Jacksons album, again practically no promotion of any merit and even that record has struggled (1.7 million worldwide sales)! Look at.the example of Robin thicke, he sold 525 copies wtf

Sales across the whole industry are down, times have changed alot since 3121 Major artists these days dont sell anything near as much as they previously had! Which is why they tour extensively to make up for the lost revenue.

Prince scored 2 top tens in Japan

Japan Oricon Weekly:

6 (NEW) 1 Art Official Age 8,949 / 8,949

10 (NEW) 1 PlectrumElectrum 6,169 / 6,169

UK sales :

AOA : 10,813

PE : 7,708

US projection sales :

AOA : 40/45 k

PE : 21/24 k

In worlwide sales, we can expect:

AOA : 130 k

PE : 70 k

200,000 ex worldwide...5 years ago, Prince scored this numbers only in the US.

The second week of sales will be abysmal.

But unexpectedly, the greatest disappointment come from his catalogue sales. No Purple rain, no hits package charting anywhere...That's kind of unusual.

There are 2 charts for that. One featuring new releases, which you show above. Then there is the other chart that shows old catalogue music that is where you'll find the hits etc.

When the remaster of PR comes out, it will be on the top 200 charts because it's a new release.

Catalogue albums can chart on the BB200 now regardless of rerelease or not. That's why you saw Bob Marley's 20 year old "Legend" in the top 5 a few weeks ago. Billboard changed the policy for catalogue albums on the BB200 after MJ's death.

Was expecting a little more in terms of sales for AOA but at the time not surprised with no promotion, no youtube vids, launching a facebook years behind... He's been gone out of the spotlight for over 4 years now a lot of things have changed, especially with the distribution of music, social media and album sales in general now with music streaming... Sign o The Times maybe... He's just not '"IN" with it anymore and his album sales will suffer more drastically in the future.

I think AOA is not in a lot of stores which affects sales. Went to KMart today and even though I already had a copy of AOA I wanted to see how many they had. The salesperson had no idea a new Prince CD (or two) was out and they had exactly zero copies. Okay so this is just one store but I don't think WB blanketed the stores with copies. They had low expectations, Prince did no promotion and a number 5 debut is pretty good under those circumstances.

All good things they say never last...
