What part of we want masterpieces doesn't this guy get? He is out of gas. The days of stunning Prince is gone.

I just listened to Our Destiny--that is a minor song--that kicks Clouds ass. Not good.

YES. If I wanted manure like Clouds I could listen to dozens, if not hundreds, of pointless throwaway artists. Who would have ever thought Prince would sink this low? He keeps getting worse. I thought Emancipation was bad, but then there was NPS. I thought NPS was bad, but then there was Rave. I thought Rave was bad, but then there was every shit he shat in 2000 to early 2001. I liked TRC, Musicology, and 3121. But I thought Planet Earth was bad...until I heard MPLSound. LotusFlower just bores me. 20ten is a modern day masterpiece compared to the double butt nugget that these new albums appear to be. [Edited 8/25/14 15:53pm]

What about physical media?

Rather: physical media via a local (EUROPEAN) distributor.

Anybody?

You can order your physical copy directly via Warner:

Did order the CDs plus MP3z. No download links of course.

No email with links either.

How generic is that 'info'?

It's no news. It's even worse. It doesn't say that the shows will be revamped to finally fix the essence of what was lacking the past few years.

As long as there's no break in the trend it's the same old same.

Artificial Age, i get that and it's a nice enough title.

but "Art Official Age", beyond a play on words, the

phrase "art official age" makes no sense, does it?

also, notice how the actual song on the album isn't
called "art official age" but "art official cage".

I agree that although phonetically the album is called "Artificial Age," the title wants to be a double entendre or a pun, but it's not. "Art Official Age" doesn't mean anything, and it's not particularly clever. I think "Artificial Age" would have been a better title. The real irony to me here is that in the lyrics to "Clouds" he seems to criticize our world and culture for being artificial, yet he hasn't put out an official picture in the last decade that isn't photoshopped to the point that he's hardly recognizable. I mean, if he wasn't wearing his best Golden Girls garb on the cover, how would we know it was him? smile

And yes, good call - I did notice that the track list shows the first song as "Artificial Cage," which actually interests me, in that his reputation for supposedly not aging like humans do has placed him in this cage where he needs to keep up that illusion. Sadly, I would bet money that the "Artificial Cage" is just a typo, though. Both websites clearly lack even basic proofreading, as per usual in Prince releases post-Gold Experience.

I don't go onto websites and start talking shit to people who like what I dislike. Understand the distinction? Thanks

You better pump your damn brakes because I can guarantee you that my reading and comprehension skills far exceed yours, thanks. The person you were addressing nor I - said anything about "asskissers" nor you kissing Prince's ass. So why your panties are all waded up in a bunch, I don't know nor do I care about. What I was addressing was your presumption that you can tell anyone here to "just call it a day" because you can't handle their opinion that differs from yours, as it pertains to Prince new music. Nowhere on this website does it state that being here requires liking whatever Prince drops from his plectrumrectum. If you don't like that, you are more than welcome to take your own advice. I'm pretty sure you do understand that, don't you?

The more I think of it the more I suspect this is how things happened (just a guess):

- prince and WB agreed on the remasters/masters right and prince offered a new, radio-friendly album in the vein of Musicology/3121 and they agreed to release both this and PR at the same time, which was IMHO a good marketing strategy for the target audiences were slightly different and the hype surrounding each project would benefit the other. While PR would have appealed to nostalgic and the fanbase, people who didn't care so much about a 30 years-old album or who already owned it and didn't care for a remaster and bonus tracks, as well as younger listeners may have been interested in the new album only while some nostalgic people would have been interested in PR only, but both audiences may have been curious about the other project because they were already paying attention to what prince was doing.

- Not being exclusively tied to WB, prince still planned to release PlecEl on Kobalt or whatever, which pissed WB to no end for they feared yet another album would compete with theirs. They tried to talk prince into delaying PlecEl or even giving up on it but prince wouldn't and challenged them by keeping publicly announcing the album.

- WB decided that better they release PlecEl themselves than letting the competition have it.

- Releasing PR and TWO new albums at the same time, on the other hand, would have been a bad marketing move, for then u have 3 products competing each other and then 2 new albums would have represented too much competition for the PR remaster and all together it woulda been confusing, so it was decided to change the schedule, create a hype by releasing the 2 new albums together on Sept. 30. and taking advantage of prince being back in the public eye by releasing PR for xmas after about 2 more months.

What a bad idea to release not only one, but 2 albums around the same time when Purple Rain 2014 hits the stores.

The Purple Rain Re-release would have been one of the best sales in years in the US market. Remember that before M. Jackson died, the catalog sales of both PR and THRILLER were equivalent ( about 2.6 millions).

Now, Prince succeeded in killing his last chance to shine again.

These three projects will be big failures.

PLECTRUM ELECTRUM should have been released in february 2014, when it was announced with the UK tour.

PURPLE RAIN 2014 should have been released during june because, hell, it was the 30 th year of PR.

ART OFF AGE could have been released in the end of 2014.

Where are some songs like DA BOURGEOISIE, SCREWDRIVER ? And what about his last "hits" (it is of course, ironic) such as Rock n roll love affair and fallinlove2night ? There is enough time space on a disc to do that.

People won't understand a shit about it. It is surely the greatest mess of all the Prince's promotion, and it is orchestrated by a major record, Warner !

I foreshadow that nobody will dig that PE is a prince album, so it won't sell. ART OFF AGE has the most horrible cover of all the Prince album (tied with newpowersoul), and the most horrible title. Nobody except prince fans would buy a disc with suc an ugly face on it. I saw him live this year, and his face don't even look like this. Please, tell me this is all a joke.

I'm pretty sure that these 2 albums will fit in one CD of 80 minutes, if you keep only one version of Funknroll (again, what a joke).

I think the time has come to split the .org up, into

a site for people who enjoy the real music days, i.e. all the Warner albums, and the occasional post-Warners song.

a site for teenagers creaming their panties when seeing the cover of Art Official Age, want to marry Prince, wonder about his weight and hair, and actually enjoy his post-Warners output.

Actually I don't agree, and I think that the current strategy is potentially far more interesting. If Warner can succeed in really promoting these two projects and 'managing' Prince in tagging along and taking at heart their choices, it could become a significant revitalisation of Prince's fame for a larger audience.

And I would not think it unlikely that around Christmas, Warner adds to this the Purple Rain remaster as the first in a series of remasters.

Maybe I'm just hoping. Let's just say that I really trust Warner to be able to execute what we, as the fans and broader audience, wants happens.

Prince should have been wise, with releasing PE in february 2014. And Warner, I don't know the fuck happened in their heads, should have released PR 30Th during the 30th anniversary of PR, with a major summer tour, tv specials, etc.

And around november, release his warner catalogue in a huge boxset.

the PR re-release could have been #1 in june and july. Now, it would maybe hits top 40 in december.

None of these 3 projetcs would receive enough promotion to be good sellers, waste of money and time for Warner, and as always big private jokes from Prince.

Not really...THe 30 th anniversary was on the 24th of june. There was a hype that could have been generated from that very date, to, that's true, the end of 2014.

Now, PR will be release during the last month of 2014, that is to say competiting with the biggest release of the year. There is no hype to be found in december 2014 for a thing originally released in the early summer of 1984.

I don' t understand the postponning, I don't understand the concept of this anniversary edition.

Cant say I am chomping at the bit to get my hands on AOA. Sounds like one of his one-man-band efforts with some production work from that 3rdeyegirl bloke. Might be ok. Afterall, I thought 2010 was ok. But I dont play it any more because it just doesnt have any longevity and wears thin pretty quickly. It was one of those shoulder shrugging, "oh well, it will do" moments. I hope I am wrong, but AOA sounds like it could be a bit like that. Certainly Clouds and the Breakdown lead me to think that.

.

Pleccy Leccy will probably be the least polished of the two and have a more raw, live sound to it. But seeing as it has been in the works for so long and we have gotten to hear, if not all the tracks, then at least the overall sound of the band, I dont think I will be too surprised by the album but it could be the winner out of the two.

.

Either way, as with any new Prince release, I wait, I hope, I dream and usually I end up shrugging my shoulders and waiting for the next release for improvement. Its been a long time coming so I am sure thay will at least do for the time being, until next time.

.

Lets see if Prince gets involved in the promotion or whether his new found friendship with WB is as strained as I think it is and his band do all the legwork.
