Am I the only one with thinks the lyrics are really contrived? The first verse makes me cringe for some reason neutral

LOVE the screaming in the bridge though. P's range really is as good as it's ever been.

I got two sides... and they're both friends.

Two things:

1. I. LOVE. This song!!! It seems like the impossible has happened, because I've had this track stuck in my head, and on repeat. This has not happened with new Prince music in YEARS! Prolly 3121 era to be exact. Regardless, I love it! Good work, P!

2. Is anybody else hearing a nod to "When I Think Of You" by Janet in the opening chords?! Sorry if it's already been discussed, but this thread is too long to wade thru to find that shit out.

Anyway, things are looking up! cool cool cool

Completely agree! I think the song is nice musically speaking. But I totally agree; lyrically, it sounds like it took him all of 5 minutes to write the song.

Still, not the worst tune he's ever put together.

Really? lol I love the 'one-click' process of buying music from Amazon. It's so easy. Downloading the music to my computer after the purchase takes less than 3 seconds. Works for me.

Itunes gave me a headache when I tried to purchase it from there first, so I gave up and waited to see if the song would show up on Amazon. Amazon works for me for buying music anytime. I didn't realize I had a $1.00 credit on Amazon for purchasing something else at an earlier date, so I was only charged .31 for the song. I like the song. Has a Delfonics/Stylistics/Love Unlimited ballad vibe. The screams are awesome, as it adds more emotion to the song and works perfectly with the humble vibe of the song. Prince's falsetto voice is on the money on this track. Good job I say. smile thumbs up!

Did "tHEBREAKDOWN" bring U back?

It appears the song is now available on spotify, so the OP should probably be updated to reflect that. Just a heads up.

SuperC: It's wonderful that you 'love' this song. But let me ask: if there any Prince songs that you do not like, please name 1 and a brief reason 'why'.

.

In doing so, you will understand how some of us may genuinely not dig 'The Breakdown' but are not egg suckers or compulsive fan-boys/girls, engaged in a war of negativity. Just sayin'....

[Edited 4/22/14 18:46pm]

First up, you make the wrong assumption that I don't understand how some people can dislike this song. That is not true. I have no problem whatsoever with you or anyone else not liking this song or any other song and explaining your reasons.

Secondly, I was making a general observation in response to the comment about the negativity on this site and my theory about where that could possibly be coming from.

In regards to your question: a song I deeply dislike is Chocolate Box, the chanting at the start, the overall sound is cold and annoying to my ears. BUT I would never say Prince should change this to that in the song or he should do this and that with the song. Or verbally abuse people who love it or say the song is shit and Prince has lost it.

Get it?

Do I 'get it'? Well hail yeah, I got it! We all deserve the chance to be heard and understood, thanks for the clarifier....

i kinda sort of luv Chocolat Box razz

She was hanging out and dancing at the discojellyfish. This lead to her meeting a fellah and dirtying some sheets. A short period later she missed her menstrual cycle but didn't think much of it. Bybtme she realize there was an issue, the octopus heart had been beating too long and she wasn't allowed to make it stop. Turns out pretzelbodylogic isn't always so much fun..

It was a preview available ahead of the album. When it was posted, many Prince fans swore that it was not Prince but rather a fan faking it with a Prince-like track. At least one even "proved" this to be the case.... lol

Of course when it came out with vocals, proving it was Prince after all, those that were wrong used their same arguments to "prove" the song sucks!

Good times...

wink

the song you're thinking of is the shorter, instrumental version of "Never B Another Like Me"

which was posted on mplsound.com (later "another boy" appeared on that site iirc).

"Disco Jellyfish" was 'released' on the lotusflower.com website, where it played on a stereo

on the site, until the day the site went live.

You know if Prince sings this song live, with those screams, he is going to have to have stretchers available for some fans who may get overwhelmed by his screams in 'The Breakdown'. Remember in Vegas 2006, at the Empire Club, when he played a tease of 'The Dance', but didn't play or sing that song, and some female fans started screaming like crazy banshees on crack, because they thought he was going to sing it? That was hilarious. lol

Well gee....I had no idea he could do that. The thought never even occurs to me. Maybe the concert goers can sip green tea with their legs crossed, and in a reserved manner, take in the sounds that are hurling out of the Marshall Amps across the arena, landing in the next county. Green tea is some DAMN good stuff, it should be a challenge to stay calm...that green tea really gets the party rollin'....lemme tell ya.
