I haven't seen Kcool despise or insult nobody. Clearly, this thread has had many comments that are far poorer and dafter than his. People defending stealing music to the same artist they claim to love. I have answered to all the questions placed in the debate. I have explained why I think there's not much difference between bootlegs for free and bootlegs for profit. I have explained why I think distributing music illegally and owning bootlegs for private use are, both ethically and legally, very different things. But people who have defended bootleging without any arguments apart from "if he hasn't released it officially, he's to blame" and others alike -which can't be considered arguments at all- feel that they can insult an orger that, certainly, isn't the best communicator on the .org, but, again, hasn't despised or insulted nobody here.

"We recognize the fans craving for as much material as possible, but we’d prefer they get it from us directly than from third parties who are scalpers rather than real fans of our work."

So they acknowledge / confirm the market yet they continue to fail to fill the demand...

They also fail to understand that most bootlegs were gotten quite directly from mr P's stuff in the first place.

I am in no way defending the right to own bootlegs, I have them and I like them. I have never downloaded and not paid for officially released stuff (bar the odd Japanese only track and a few vinyl only mixes) I'm sure were Prince to release stuff we had on boot on good quality with artwork at least 80% would buy it no problem direct from him. We're not doing him out of any money. It's keeping our interest in him. But there are people who have said in this thread that bootlegs are the devil yet I bet they have them on their PC's. Just saying

The websites sure pulled the material with the threat of their asses getting pounded. People don’t change their ways or get the hint until their ass is on the line. A 22 million lawsuit will do the trick. Good on Prince for dropping the suit when they complied AND for threatening them in the first place. IT HAS TO BE DONE. Piracy is not wholesome fan play. It needs to be treated as the crime that it is.

Prince's lawyer has issued a statement to TMZ explaining why the singer decided to drop the lawsuit: "Because of the recent pressure, the bootleggers have now taken down the illegal downloads and are no longer engaging in piracy."

"We recognize the fans craving for as much material as possible, but we’d prefer they get it from us directly than from third parties who are scalpers rather than real fans of our work."

Think again.

The material is not offline. I downloaded some myself.

People merely paused or went underground.

Yes, it's 2014 and one can run an operation a whole lot more hushhush.

The lawsuit was a mess and I am sure you will agree after reading the text and the techdirt article I posted about.

Prince dropped the case after the techdirt article because it pointed out the weaknesses.

So Prince did not do so good. He HAD to pull out though in order to cover his ass.

Piracy is the wrong word.

As I summarized mr P does still not fill the void yet complain about losing out, begging for 22 million in the case.

Need I go on?

That's not the point and you know it. And if all it does it make it go further underground then objective achieved. You need to put a little fear and light a little fire in people's asses sometimes. Prince achieved his objective. It was not about the money, but shaking people up. And he did a good job at it too.

Can I get the Dirty Dark Ages from you please Prince? No? Oh.....

Can I get the the Dream Factory please? No? Oh.......

Scalpers? That implies they are ripping people off and/or taking something from Prince? What exactly? That would be an interesting statement.

Real fans? Who the f**k is gonna download recordings of the 2007 O2 London gigs if they are not real fans? Get real.

My theory - he is gonna release 3rd Eye Girls album for sale and wants to deter pirates of that. It's not just about 30 year old original versions of Computer Blue.

Still a knob.

lol lol lol

Of course, I'm not going to repeat all I've said on this thread. I own bootlegs and I have bought them, I think this was pretty clear from what I've written before. I won't say I'm proud of owning them, but owning for private use is miles away ethically from illegal distribution. Etc., etc.: I've written it all before.

---

You're obsessed with the difference you see between selling bootlegs and "sharing" them. That seems to be a very important problem for you, for whatever reason. On the contrary, to me what's important is how bootlegers, whether they sell or "share", disrespect the artistic will of the musician they claim to love by distributing his music without consent. That's the real issue for me, and in this issue it's absolutely the same if bootlegers get money out of it or not.

---

Yes, you've explained why you think it's totally different to sell or to "share" bootlegs, but you haven't given any real argument to defend bootleging in general. You and others on this thread have defended the bootlegers and have criticised Prince for suing them. But neither you nor the others have given any real reason to support the argument in favour of bootlegers. On the contrary, I have given arguments to explain all my positions. You may not agree with them, but I have explained my positions thoroughly. And remember we are debating different points of view, nobody is "right" or "wrong". That's called pluralism and respect.

---

I defend a guy who hasn't been disrespectful to any orger. Neither on this thread nor on any other thread. That can't be said of many orgers, but can be said of him. And I don't necessarily defend his position. I simply say it's mediocre and contemptible to insult people hidden behind a computer, like you have done. But go on, you can continue doing it. It is allowed and even celebrated on this site.

Well, as I suspected he would, Prince has dropped the charges and the whole thing was just intended to scare the shit outta those dudes and make them stop their sharing practice at least for a while. I could hardly believe Prince was really gonna ruin these people's lives with costly lawsuits and 1 million dollars compensations. I'm glad Prince has proven he's not lost his senses.

So no big deal in the end, and all my sympathy to those fans who must have been terrified for the last 2 weeks. How relieved they must feel now biggrin

Sure. Mr P is like Snata Claws, does come from a dream world and acts like a fairy. Right?

No, mr P battles for his money, or so he tried.

But due to the intrinsic quality of the complaint he was forced to drop the case.

I'm glad Prince has proven he's not lost his senses.

To the contrary: by starting the case with this low quality lawyer he proved one more time that his path is one of problems.

One can see this in his show production but also in this court case.

He aims for cheap but that doesn ot always work well.

So no big deal in the end,

It is a big deal.

He claims compensation for stuff he did not release. Not even tried to release.

Time for this thread to be locked I guess wink

I guess in your dream world you think the issue is over.

In a more realistic view on real life we see a thick red line of how he behaves, communicates, fills set lists, etc.

There's plenty of documentation on what happened, what was said and how that panned out and what he played and plays.

You do the math again.

That's kind of like saying insulting over the internet, hiding behind a computer is contemptuous...implies that doing it face to face is better in some way.

TT he internet is a means of communication. Its fair that many forms of communique will use just as many routes to achieve a relatively similar array of results. To I sult someone face to face still has solid forms of protection to hide behind...retaliatory violence will result in a date with the local jail...

Apples to oranges....bananas to plantains... Grapes to grapes...its all fruit...

Its the org....were all familiar enough with each bother to where we aren't completely and utterly anonymous with out communications....like a YouTube or huffpost comment section.
