I am neither optimistic nor pessimistic. More like wait and see. I will buy the album when, if? it drops. I am not that excited by the 3rdeyegirl project though. They sound good enough and Prince is having fun but the whole thing seems to me like quickly cobbled together. And the lyrics are dreadful (I am referring to LOL, Screwdriver and FULU). I am also not that into rock, it gets boring quickly because there are better rock bands than them and there is only so much drum bashing and guitar shredding that I can take. Prince is much better at funk. Prince is funk. I love new songs like Aint gon miss u, Breakfast can wait, Breakdown and such but I am assuming they are not 3rdeyegirl even though sold through that website.

It remains to be seen. But it's a little weird that he abandoned the prince2013 web site and seems to have abandoned the 3rd eye website too.

But he's been playing and recording, so chances are good we'll see an album of some kind

I'm quite confident about him releasing that Plectrum Electrum thing, even if I don't believe in any of that "bootlegs 4 daze" bullshit on the already dead 3rdeyegirl website. He may also be quite involved in that announced Shelby J. album which, since it's supposed to be released on her label and not NPG Records, has some chances to see the light or day.

Look at how many years we got without Prince releasing any album, video album or protégé album: 1983, 2005, 2011. It's not so often lol

Still optimistic. Love all the stuff from 3rdeyegirl.com. Some are wondering about the site, but it was just a test model for (the KOBALT deal) something much bigger and better...coming soon.

The longer it takes to drop, the less likely I think it's going to happen.

And as stated above, although I think his recent live tour was fantastic, the original stuff he's been releasing with 3EG is lukewarm at best (sounds like bad rehashes of C&D to me). I think the handful of songs we got on 3EG.com most likely WAS Prince's new album this year confused

Hugely optimistic. Expecting a cross between Sign O' the times and Crystal Ball. Something to rival Springsteen's Darkness on the edge of town. It'll be way better than the new Bowie album.

Funkenberry on the last spreecast.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Optimistic, I like the 3rd Eye project but this year could be middle of road, I expect Big things. So hope for more to it than 3rd.

What shenangians? Your impatience doesn't count.

The LOL tour, tv appearances, SXSW gig, rehearsing ofor those live gigs, inking a deal to release music. It's all shenanigans!!! lol rolleyes

I believe that he will release an album this year.

I have only the very mildest interest in it, and I do not think Prince will dissapoint me, becuase my expectations are set so low, that even if it mildly sucks, it will have exceeded my expectations.

I fully believe the album will be lackluster, boring, and either seem desperate or sound dissengaged.

Prince's behavior and neglect of his 3rdeyegirl website has caused me to not really give two shits about the album anyways. Only the deep rooted completist in me will make any attempt to get a copy of it from a friend or something, but I doubt I'll enjoy it. It'll be like 20ten--something I haven't listenned to since the week it was released, and listened to with only the mildest interest at that.

I really find Prince interesting now because of how much he's become everything I find dull and unintersting. For an artist as amazing as he once was to accomplish going from that to a self-parodying elderly man-boy is pure gold to me. That I find interesting as hell.

I am sad to say that I agree here. My interest in Prince is at an all time low.

I was psyched when he first started puttin music up on 3rdeyegirl and advertised Montreaux on the 20pr1nc3 site. Now that they've been practically dormant for a couple of months my enthusiasm is pretty low. I'm in a wait & see mode.

Also when you have to elaborately explain why you still follow Prince you're making yourself look lackluster, boring and desperate. You're hooked and can't let go it's that simple! You'll spend the next decade following his every move, posting on this site and still rambling on about nonsense to justify still being here following Prince.

i do think that a fair number on this site are very hard on prince...the guy has released probably more great and innovative music that almost anyone alive...he is still a superb live act and a musician very few can equal....how much great music can one person have inside them ?...yes his music isnt as good but very few acts continue to make great music throughout a long career....

does stevie wonder or bowie get the flack that prince gets from his fans ?...i doubt it very much...stevie is seen as a music great regardless of what he releases now....the same with bowie.. (and yes bowie has released his fair share of bad music and his new album is good in parts but not as great as its made out)..i still think prince releases good music but not as much as his heyday in the 80s but thats to be expected...

if we are talking about him being a control freak in everything he does then that just seems to be part of his character..he has always been the same and i dont see it changing any time soon...it certainly causes frustration with his fans but was part of what gave him the drive to become huge in the 80s..

i am just thankful he is still with us...his music has meant a great deal to me and still continues to mean a lot to me..his back catalogue really is something to behold..you could spend days listening to it and who knows what else he has locked in the vault ...

i am looking forward to the new album...do i expect it to be great ?...no...but i do expect to hear something on it that i will love...

but you never answered the question BB

Optimistic or pessimistic for a 2013 release?

Hard 2 say

a Prince album w/3rd Eye Girl and others?

a 3rd Eye Girl album featuring Prince?

I'm not in any rush either way

because I want him to put out a focused, cohesive package

Pretty neutral. Perhaps more pessimistic than optimistic. 20Ten was hardly the greatest artistic achievement of his career, but it did sound like a Prince record. If the new record is going to be "grunge lite" or something along those lines I'm doubtful I will give that many listens. Just not necessarily the type of music I would listen to.

I will indeed keep on following Prince, probably forever. But more so out of habit than out of real interest. The thing I find most interesting about Prince at the moment is Prince.org.

I don't know, his music just isn't as exciting as it used to be. When I think of Prince I used to think of wild, adventurous and sexy music, mixing pop sensibilities with raw funk and rock, with some added experimental elements. But let's face it: it has been very long since we've had anything like that. I miss that and I am bored. There, I said it again! lol

I feel the same way.I will forever be a fan of his 80s music.I still listen to 1999 on a regular basis. But,to be honest,I'm just not feelin' most of his recent music.I now realize that it's OK to not like everything an artist releases. It's OK to only like certain songs and albums, from certain eras. That's how I am with Prince.

So the "all time low" really isn't that low because there's still room for interest in there. As for Prince.Org being the most interesting thing about Prince I'd have to say some orgers have treated this site like it's their Facebook page using to stay connected to other orgers but not really contributing anything new to the threads just old leftover opinions rattled off ad nasueum like some personal mantra. As for myself I'm here because I enjoy the music past and present.

Dude, I am honestly happy for you that you still enjoy Prince's current music! I am just stating things as I feel them. And let's face it, some of you Prince Org Positivo's keep repeating your positive mantras ad nauseum just as much.

I wish I could still get into Prince and his music as I was able to in the past, but it just isn't happening anymore. Of course there still is some interest left, he is one of my favorite artists after all, but yeah, my interest is seriously waning at the moment.

Could be my fault for not being "open minded" or "appreciative" enough, but it might also have to do with Prince not really delivering the goods anymore.

nod It's also important to remember that some fans, like myself, are here mainly for the discussion of old albums and songs. If there is a thread about Dirty Mind,1999 or Lovesexy,I'll be all over it lol It doesn't make me less of a fan just because I'm not thrilled with the new stuff.
