Explain to Prince that >time< is very valuable, time is running out isn't it?

SOON the cd format doesn't exists anymore...

Please explain to Prince, someone, how our time is very valuable...

We need to have our Prince / Warner back catalogue re-mastered on CD box sets, complete with outtakes, b-sides and extended versions, live recordings and more.

TIME is running out, will it be in our lifetime...

Time is a trick..? Oh no it isn't, it's a clock ticking,

In case his purple majesty is reading, PLEASE re-consider.. and don't neglect your fans' needs.

Pleeease.... sad

I don't think we will ever see Prince remasters, beyond the vinyl reissues that came out a few years ago.But it's Ok...I am having alot of fun collecting remaster/deluxe box sets from my *other* favorite artists.By the time Prince comes to his senses and releases it,most of his longtime fans will be too old to enjoy them, lol

The format doesn't concern me so much as them being done RIGHT and getting the all-out treatment they deserve.

A couple of 12" mixes chucked on the end will not cut it, and I won't support anything like that with my cash.

Even though the costs were high to get them. All the SHM-CD Japan versions of his back catalog sound a ton better than the regular one's. So for those who want to give them a shot I suggest buy your favorite one of all Prince's SHM-CD's and compare them with what you have now. I heard a difference right away. So for now I'm happy with the SHM-CD versions I have currently. I am in no rush for him to remaster any of his work, but if and when it does happen I'd still be all over it biggrin

Speaking of Purple Rain, here is the 3 disc set I made for a friend.

Disc 1: The Expanded Soundtrack

Let's Go Crazy Long Version (7:36)
Losing the entire middle jam portion, Prince shortened this one to make room on the album for Take Me With U. This extended jam appeared in the opening scenes of the film, and was issued on a twelve-inch single.

Take Me With U Previously Unreleased Long Version (4:56)
Includes a minute-long coda where the final LP fades out.

The Beautiful Ones Previously Unreleased Long Version (6:03)
Includes restored extra lyrics at end.

Computer Blue Previously Unreleased Long Version (7:29)
A major casualty of WB's meddling, as this song was originally 15 minutes long, and would take up an entire album side. The final LP version is dramatically edited down to only 4 minutes long, losing entire movements in what was originally a multipart suite. This 7 and a half minute version was Prince's own edit, but was shortened even further to make room for Darling Nikki. The full 15 minute version of Computer Blue is currently circulating in poor quality, so we chose what was nearly the final album version.

Darling Nikki Previously Unreleased Long Version (4:43)
Includes an extra guitar solo and is more raw sounding overall. Segues into the album's "Backwards message".

Hello, How Are You? (0:56)
Save your turntable - the Backwards Message revealed.

God (Love theme from 'Purple Rain') Previously Unavailable in U.S.(8:01)
Released only on the flipside on the U.K. Purple Rain twelve inch single, this is eight minutes of gorgeous guitar. An excerpt from this piece appears in the film.

When Doves Cry (5:54)
As on the LP. There are no other circulating studio versions available.

I Would Die 4 U (2:49)
Baby I'm A Star (4:24)
This pair of songs appear as they did on the released LP. They were recorded live August 3, 1983 at First Avenue in Minneapolis. After the live recording, Prince overdubbed more instrumentation and vocals onto the tape, and this became the album versions. The original live recording, while interesting, lacks many parts, so we have chosen to include the final LP versions for these two songs.

Purple Rain Previously Unreleased Long Version (14:02)
The title track was also recorded live at the August 3, 1983 show. Violins were overdubbed at a later date for the album, and several minutes were removed from the final edit, including an extra verse and chorus, and a much longer guitar solo. For this collection we present the full version as originally performed that night at First Avenue.

Disc 2: Bootlegs & B-Sides

Electric Intercourse Previously Unreleased (6:19)
A ballad, left off the final LP to make room for "The Beautiful Ones". This was recorded at the same concert as IWD4U, Baby I'm A Star, and Purple Rain.

I Would Die 4 U Extended Version (10:22)
A long jam version, featuring Sheila E on congas, and horn players Eric Leeds and Matt Blistan.

Originally released on a twelve-inch single in late 1984.

Another Lonely Christmas 12" Single B-Side (6:46)
Appeared on the b-side of the IWD4U twelve-inch single. Sheila E on drums.

God 7" Single B-Side Vocal Version (4:03)
This alternate take of the "Love Theme" with vocals was issued on the flip of the "Purple Rain" single in the U.S.

Erotic City 12" Single B-Side (7:26)
An unlikely club hit for Prince in the Summer of '84, this was released on the flipside of the "Let's Go Crazy" single. Adventurous radio disc jockeys assembled their own edits before it disappeared from radio entirely. Here is the classic long version.

All Day, All Night Previously Unreleased (6:03)
A preview of the night presented on disc three, Prince took this live June 7, 1984 recording back to the studio and overdubbed more stuff on top with help from Lisa and Wendy. Here is the result. It missed the album, and should have been a b-side.

17 Days 7" Single B-Side (3:55)
This one did appear on the filp of the "When Doves Cry" 45, and quickly became as much of a radio hit that summer as it's a-side.

Possessed Previously Unreleased (5:50)
Used in the background of a bar scene in the film, this instrumental was left off of the soundtrack album. Prince would revisit this one live during the year, as we will see on disc three.

The Dance Electric Previously Unreleased Long Version (10:13)
A short edit of this duet with Andre Cymone was released in late 1984. Here is the original ten minute version featuring some great guitar soloing that was left out of the final mix.

Untitled Previously Unreleased (4:01)
Used in the film, this atmospheric piece was recently unearthed after more than 25 years in obscurity.

Disc 3: June 7, 1984 Live At First Avenue, Minneapolis
17 Days (5:24)
Our Destiny Previously Unreleased (3:12)
Roadhouse Garden Previously Unreleased (4:56)
All Day, All Night Previously Unreleased (5:59)
Noon Rendevouz Previously Unreleased (9:02)
Erotic City (8:31)
Something In The Water (10:10)
When Doves Cry (11:20)
Irresistable Bitch (5:41)
Possessed Previously Unreleased (5:48)

Keep your headphones on.

Time has run out.

Look, I felt that time was running out on Prince when he was 45. He had spent most of his upper 30s and all of his 40s in a hazy sem-obscurity in pop culture compared to what he was previously.

He's become a strange 'legacy' act these days whose live shows will draw diehard fans, and the general audience (if his tickets are priced reasonably), but whose album sales seem fueld almost exclusively by diehard fans. Sure, 3121 and lotusflow3r placed in the top of the charts in their first weeks--Prince has a large number of diehard fans who anxiously waited 2 years for these albums (something he never had to do before)--but, they pale in comparison to some other pop acts when you look at the sales over time.

And, people may refute me on this, but Rock & Roll is for the young. It's the young who are the most creative and energetic when it comes to rocking out and just blowing us away with their energy. It's a cruel trick of age, but a Prince performance today is amazing in it's technical musicianship, but you could never say it was as good as SOTT of LoveSexy (in my opinion). Those shows were unbelievable and unrepeatable. Time has run out.

At 20 and 30, Prince's 'mysterious' act was interesting to me because I was young. At 40, Prince's mysterious act was annoying. At 55, it's now just creepy. Time has run out.

Maybe Prince gives you what you need and not what you want.

Or gives you something you don't know you want.

Or better yet, it's Prince's journey, let him do what he wants.
