I just saw it.

Holy shit.

The performance is alright, but even that isn't really enough for me to bother paying to download it and convert it to audio.

Everything else about it is straight up embarrassing. More than usual, for Prince videos even.

I see the age limit they put on the open call for dancers/extras really hindered them. The dancing scenes really ought to have more than 15 people on a big soundstage doing this dance. And I didn't really understand the point of the intro.

I just DL'd it, and I like how campy/ameture-sih/not serious the video is, almost laughing at the idea of who people think he is.

I wish this was the only recording i bought on mp3 though, i think the keys and sound effects ruin the sound of the second 'remix' mp3 dl.

I believe Prince has found some new inspiriation with his current band. I would bet the girls are driving a lot of his actions recently, ie. embracing the web, the new sound, etc.

MarcelJ said:

It's not a bad track. Probably one of his better efforts of the past 5 years. I'd like to see it "live". I mean in person live. If he gets kids to do the twist, I'll be really shocked. I got a bit bored for them, just watching.

But, hey he's making a real effort to reach a new generation. This is certainly interesting to see and was starting to believe I'd never see Prince really trying to be "current" ever again.

I'd still rather see him team up with DJ Poet or hell even Peter Fox (look up Seeed)!

go to my account on 3rdeyegirl, it's a small link at the bottom of the page and when you see the video title right click on it and save as. If it says you don't have any download lefts it means you streamed it 3x so email customer service and they will fix it.

hope this helps, it took 30 mn for me to get the email nd check your spam folder too just in case..

ok. thank you - i mailed them - no answer within 3 h. i tried the save function but i have a mac and it doesnt work that way for me... and now i have no download left ;-(

i think this was the last video i bought from prince this way. but the mp3's worked fine..

on the other side: isnt this sick anyway? make a video to promot a song you release and sell it ?? even this lyricvideo of screwdriver is down now... i dont get this dude .. and as a die hard fan i will do this over and over again - feel like a junkie ... cant live with or without ...dam so i am sick??

To be fair to them, they're doing their absolute best - which is a hell of a lot more than can be said for previous websites Prince has sprung forth.

I sent them a quick email this morning telling them that the general concensus online on fan forums etc seems to be definitely weighed in the positive. Why? Well mainly because I was in a good mood and wanted to throw something positive back in to someones mix today and God knows people are quick to fire off emails when things go wrong, but rarely bother to take the time and say something constructive and make someones day.

I recieved this reply a couple of hours later:

Thank U so much for taking the time to share your positive comments!
This means a lot to us as we are working very hard to provide a positive and smooth experience for all of us Prince fans (of which this whole web team counts themselves!).
Look for much more in the coming future!

Give them a chance, from what I can see - they're doing their damndest to be a lot more hands on and reachable than what we've had before.

So far, so good I say.

that is a nice gesture on both parts!

While I am not yet wowed by the content, I am thrilled that Prince is finding a way to market new material to his audience. I am happy to wait and see how this all unfolds.

I'm ready. We've had no proper album since...2008?! Is that possible?

It shows that Prince cares 2. He has a backing that has his back like no other this time. This year is turning in2 a very purple year so far....

Right, just like you saw Gett Off, SexyMF, 3 Chains O'Gold, Sacrifice of Victor, and Undertaler videos before buying them.

No, that's actually the beauty, no membership therefore you don't have to pay for anything that you don't want. There's always the lyric video.

I didn't buy the video and honestly I don't care about seeing it. I didn't even visit the website. After he didn't perform on the Grammys, I was done (although I LOVED seeing him there with his hood and all cool )

It was a big let down to find it was going to be on a site for pay-per-download as opposed to being broadcast. It's not "LIVE" to me unless I watch it while it's going on. But ok, semantics.

The way the pitch was done just made the whole anticlimatic.

Now, had he let it be a surprise, it would have been different. I know Frank Ocean did SNL and then immediately uploaded a video for fans right after and it created a tone of excitement and got a lot of press and Twitter action. Ocean has done stuff like that several times and it's well coordinated.

This just felt like a trick. Saying "watch live" is different from a video shot live. And then he doesn't even just release it to the world on YouTube. I've never paid for a video and I don't intend to.

A song? Yes, a real feature-length film, yes?

Videos should be part of advertising to get people interested in buying the music or following an artist's career. A pay-per-view video doesn't even have the power to go viral. So, once again, Prince is limiting his scope. This is just all kinds of wrong from a marketing standpoint.

Yes I don't get it why he didn't perform on the Grammys, it would have been a great opportunity 2 promote the Screwdriver single. And when read watch Screwdriver Live 10/2/2013 then I thought he would perform it live at first
