1. I am a massive Bowie fan.
2. His new tune is boring and the melody is plain flat. Compared to a tune like The Motel, where are we know is crap. I am excited by The next day release but hopefully it will be more inspired.
3. I see it's gonna be the next game all year in Prince fans community. Bowie is better than P at this, better than P at that.
4. Bowie is fragile. Nobody thought he would release a new Cd. That's why the whole world is talking about it.
5. I wish we stoped with the stupid battles comparisons on this forum. Prince always end up being less qualified than any other great artist according to most orgers. That's tired and plain stupid.
6. The new Prince stuff is great.

the new bowie song is class.

Its a 66 year old man, in a sad contemplative mood and singing in a frail fragile voice. It is totally beautiful. It is classy. I feel that Prince although i am possibly his biggest fan, i think sometimes trying to still act too young with his music is drowning him slightly. I would love to hear some gorgeous adult songs from him, meaningful, deep. But again its a matter of opinion. Bowie i found very hard to get into now i am into him i am stuck. He is so clever and so amazing, and thought provoking. I am pleased it at the top of the charts and leap frogged over the usual shite that clogs it up. Some real talent shining through.

i dont mean to sound rude but saying something like that just shows you are quite ill educated about music.

This should be about discussing real talent. And to even mention Justin Bieber has just shown the true you.

Why? all im trying to say is that i don't really get why everyone keeps mentioning Prince and Bowie on here. Why is this worthy of being included in the Prince section of the org?

the same way that "Michael Jackson vs Prince" threads or Madonna & Prince threads make sense here (Prince: Music and More)

if anything, Bowie's album WILL COMPLETELY eclipse the 2013 project of Prince...

Yea i get Madonna and Prince, Michael and Prince. Not so much Bowie and Prince (it does make some sense). And more part means stuff about prince like his life.

well, considering that both MJ and Rick James are, sadly, dead, Bowie is right now the only male solo artist with a passing (some might say strong) resemblance to Prince, both visually and sonically; and the influence is evident...

I love Prince. But Bowie is not funky the day that China quits putting lead in everything they manufacture.

Bowie's music has always been relatively sophisticated, mature and intelligent for pop standards. His audience expects that. That has helped with his long term career success. Because as his audience aged and grew, they could still enjoy his new music without feeling silly. He never crossed the "Chocolate Box" threshold.

Prince, on the other hand has had trouble keeping his older fans becasue of "Chocolate Boxes."
Going the opposite direction of a Bowie or U2, or Springsteen. Pandering woefully unsophisticated music for what he thinks "today's kids" would like. And badly under-estimating them through and through. Turning off new listeners, old ones, and in some ways marginalizing his legacy.

Prince does NOT owe Bowie a bit. They have absolutely nothing in common musically.

Prince's masters are Sly Stone, Hendrix, Santana, James Brown, Curtis Mayfield, Joni Mitchell. he owes these artists. Certainly not Bowie.

And please Bowie has never been a REAL funkasteer. He is no Bootsy, Sly or Prince.

Bowie's attempts to funk show a lack of black sweat.

He surely owes him the androgyny thing. Bowie did that first. And a lot of other things too...

David Bowie is a true musical legend. Period.

Exactly. Fame was released in 1975 and is funkier than most of Prince's work from the last 20 years.

I also suggest looking up Bowie's The Secret of Arabia from the 70s. That is way more funky than ANYTHING Prince has out in the last 20 years!
