Same reason why presidents of that country aren't removed from their jobs despite acting against the constitution?

And you still deny stuff about `third`?

This board needs rules that should be enforced just as much as the bootlegging rule.

One of those rules should be regarding the line between constructive criticism and pure, unadulterated hate and negativity.

You don't have to like everything Prince does. You don't have to pretend that you do. But at some point, it's turned into the same few people prying apart their assholes to drop humongous amounts of shit on the fans who - god forbid - actually come here to discuss their favorite artist.

Extraloveable is a prime example. Anyone who dared to express that they actually liked the new version, or preferred it to the original, got ripped to shreds in the nastiest of ways..... by the same small contingent of people who do nothing but whinge, moan and complain here, DAY IN, DAY OUT. It happens with the rehearsal jams. It happens with any new song. It's just dull.

At this point Prince could probably pull out a completely unheard incredible song from 1983 and pretend it's new, and the same few people would whinge and complain because they BELIEVED it was something brand new. He should do that and punk the hell out of some of you all.

If you don't like something, fine. And feel free to express that. I don't think anyone has a problem with that. But don't shit on the people that DO like it.

It's all good though. "Love and positivity will never succumb to hate and malice..." - wise words from a certain artist.

I agree with this. The forums need to be monitored better. Like you said, people come here to discuss Prince and his music/whatever with civility and those "few" come in and spew tons upon tons of crap about how awful the music is, how awful Prince's output has been, and how they've hated the new music since 1998, 1988, whatever. Those "few", if the music is so awful and wretched to them, would find their time more productive doing anything else instead of logging on here day after day harrassing those who want to discuss the man or the music in a mature manner.

It goes back to what's been said on this forum several times. They're trolling. Or... or... they're just trying to get people riled up into spitting contests because they've nothing else to do. If they don't like the music anymore, don't come to this site. Go listen to some Miles, Beatles, MJ, or anyone else they feel "still had it" throughout their careers.

But, that would be a productive use of time, and possibly remove an avenue for attention. Nobody here cares what your professional or personal history is. Somebody here decided it prudent to cite their resume, seemingly for some kind of credibility, I don't know, don't care. It doesn't make their words any more important than anyone else who comes to this site. This seemed to be an attempt to get "Oooohs" or "Ahhhhs", or "wow, they be edjumacated" from the rest of us who must be thought of as idiots because we don't spew bullshit on a site about a man who doesn't give a shit about our opinions. You got an education? Great, so do I. Got a good job? Great, so do I. I'm not going to put my work/personal history up anywhere because I feel like I have to show some kind of credibility for being here.

Now, queue the people who do this to tear my posting apart.

Fuck, fuckity fuck fuck fuck.

That's blatant incitement to violence and you know it is. Whoever it was. Somebody here just said "Cult" too. No use trying to deny it, somebody said it and that's all there is to it. It doesn't bother me. When the mods see this kind of thing... Well. who knows what could happen? censored

I'm not stupid. Oh no. Or yes? eek .. I'm not a cult either and furthermore, I am highly insulted by *insert usernames* blatantly aggresive nature. Beautiful Truth

Trolls

I really can't understand the belief that those with hardcore negative and passionate opinions about Prince automatically are trolls. Is it really inconceivable to believe that some have a legitimate gut reaction and want to express that just as much as those with positive passions do?

It seems so mentally weak to need a Mary Poppins board where everything is pleasant and non-offensive. It's not like a fist can come through the computer.

To be so intolerant of other people's reactions to Prince is just ridiculous. Life is raw. Opinion is raw.

I have been here for about 2 years, and I already know that this community is a colorful as Prince is when it comes to his style. lol

We got them ALL here! One of the most amazing things about Prince is that he's one of the most complex artists to exists. He has people from all world; and people come with all kinds of values, differences, and cultures. A lot people, of course can get too 'Personal and outside of reality.' As Bob Dylan said " You might like my music, but I don't OWE you anything'.. I agree with that to an extent.

I personally don't acknowledge somethings that people say, unless I need better clarification. If I don't understand something, I ask to get an understanding. I can often see when someone is saying something for provocation or simply giving out their opinion in an impolite way..It all comes down to understanding and respect.

IMO I believe Prince has a psychological hold on some haters.

When I say haters I don't mean some people here who give their honest well-balanced opinion.

I'm referring to those who have not liked a Prince song in 10, 15, 20 years, yet they continue to follow him AND complain about the output. That is cleary an OBSESSION and folks just don't want to admit it. I'm not trying to offend anyone but I just can't wrap my head around why people cant just walk away. I did it or 8 years, I didn't get mad, I just moved on.

Finally you have those here with a CREEPY obsession over Prince. These are people who in my experience almost 95% of the time are negative, they only post negative things, yet they continue to follow and keep up on Prince who they despise so much. Just think about it outside of the confinds (sp?) of the Org. Is that really normal behavior. Its a creepy obsession. Dont get me wrong, even sometimes the post are true, and I agree with it, but i can't help but think each time. why is this person here, and why does this person continue to follow someone theyhate or despise. Its so weird to me.

Well, wonder ... let me just offer an alternate perspective -- becaues I can grasp why these people don't walk away.

They love Prince. They have experienced his height and his best and they believe in his potential and his talent so much that every time he releases something they hope it will push his limits, go past the edge of what he's done before, rival the potential they know he has. Then, they are disappointed -- because let's face it his contemporary music hasn't done that -- and then they talk shit and criticize, maybe even justly.

And repeat, repate repeat, because the output doesn't elevate in their eyes. Why should they leave? They want to keep an eye out and see if he ever rises to the challenge of besting himself or rivaling his greatest self.

I find that that to be a reasonable and permissible response. It shows they have high expectations for him. That's better than people lowering the bar out of "love."

There's obsession on both sides. I mean, we're all obsessesd in some degree to be on a site of musician who tries to sue us, shut down fan sites, won't let us see his videos on YouTube and barely releases any music. With his behavior, does being a loyalist sound normal?

Normalcy is over--rated. What does it even mean. Varied people just do what they do.

I think when you combine the so-called bashers with the sycophants then the board is evened out. Yin and yang.

Disclaimer: Now I could be giving these perpetual bashers too much credit, but I don't think so. I personally haven't been impressed by Prince in years. But I always hope to be...and I"m not going to pretend to like new stuff that is average.

I have been a member of this community since it was a mailing list with a live chat window.

In that time, I've seen Prince, the man, go from an eccentric voice with an inspiring message of love to a voice whose pronouncements do not serve to make the world a better place.

He's a multi-millionaire. Many thousands of his dollars come from my pocket. He doesn't give a fuck about me.

He's not obliged to.

But his opinions on sexuality, politics and generosity, and on certain aspects of race, are repellent to me. They're ignorant, old fashioned, selfish and make the world a more bitter, cynical and ugly place.

I'm not obliged to be quiet about it. We're all square.

This is my community. Prince inspired it. He's become an awful man, and his music, likewise, is basically bad now.

But this is my community. It's for me. It's not Prince's. It's ours.

If you don't like it, find another one. Come back when Prince releases an excellent record and reminds us that we're supposed to love each other rather than whine about taxes.

I couldn't resist! lol

You present the other side in a very understanding manner. People fell in love with the 80s-90s Prince and continues to be disssappointed because he's not matching up with the past. But I still believe that 15+ years is a looooong time to be following someone who has not done anything for you that long. You look at it as holding out hope, but I look at it as an obsession. The lenghth of time for "hope" is unrealistic. I try to understand the behavior of the fan. Its the fan who has chosen and made that choice to hold themselves hostage to someone who has not satisfied them for so long. Now I do enjoy some of the criticism, always gotta have balance. But after such a long time, if I were Prince I would tell them to stop sweating me and go run along and find another artist that meets your fancy. There are so many other artists out there.

Now as far as the ones who only post negative no matter what for 10+, they are too obsessed and I still say its creepy. Sheet if I knew my enemies spent that much time on me I'd be honored....or troubled eek

You find it creepy because you are well-balanced and sane lol! the haters are very much like spurned lovers who can't and won't give up. Meanwhile the ex-lover has moved on with his life. If these folks really loved Prince they would just let him go instead of berating him because he is not who they want him to be. Its a sickness and you can't spin it into rational mature behavior as SynthiaRose is trying too.

There is nothing sane or rational about bashing the bashers over the last ten years either.

Are you serious?!

ERROR in DB::fetchSingle() on

Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

Yes Udo. I'm serious. Insanity: doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Those that do this never ever get anyone to change and if they realize that there are people who live yo piss people like them off, they would stop it. I really can't imagine letting something someone says about a person I don't even know bother me. And you know it bothers them because they keep harping on it. Stop giving those folks responses and they will stop. Oh, we'll. maybe folks are into beating their head against the wall.
