Listening to 3121 for the first time in years

.. And you know, i'd forgotten just how good an album this is. A cohesive collection of decent tracks.

Nice one, P.

(In case you're reading this). biggrin

All of my hang-ups have gone. How I wish you felt the same.

A bit overrated by fans IMO, bit too R and B, autotuney for my liking overall.

Easily outclassed by Planet Earth and the Lotusflow3r set IMO.

Agree! 3121 is classic Prince, maybe some don´t like it but it´s SO Prince!

PE was a big dissapointment at first...but listening afterwards it has some nice tracks but it´s

not a cohesive album.

I really really like The Dance..especially the ominous beginning notes. It sounds like it is saying "Get ready for drama"

"Climb in my fur."

The Word is a quiet understated jam as well. It's like a perfect song.

Not to sound dorky (too late I know!) but he sounds at peace or really relaxed on this song. Thats the vibe I get when I listen to it.

It's funny that you say that because I feel that way about the entire album. Prince sounds like he is so content and just wants everyone to join him in the party. Don't you wanna come? 3121.

Take out the not-very good songs (Lolita? - ugh, Incense and Candles = barf) and have a version of Fury that is as blazing as the SNL version - then you're getting closer to a great album.

I could care less for Love and Incense and Candles but the rest of the album is really good. Fury sounds a little average though, it's okay. I especially love the title track. I think I am the only one on the org that likes Lolita lol. I could do without the back and forth dialogue at the end however. Way better than Musicology. I would rank it right behind Lotusflower and Rainbow Children concerning his 2000s studio albums.

I too like Lolita lol It's a funky little song. I liked it on AI as well. I play 3121 frequently. Black Sweat is a jam in my book, it goes hard. I like The Dance (this version is also nice), Satisfied, & of course 3121. I even like Incense and Candles, (maybe it's the subject matter lol ). 3121 is a cool collection of songs. cool

Unlistenable to me.

The best thing about it is the title track. And even this one is based on an old beat. lol

The only songs on 3121 I don't care much about are The Word and The Dance. The rest is funky, varied and exciting. Not as good as most of the music from the 80s but probably Prince's best album since The Gold Experience. It probably appeals both to fans and casual listeners. If I would go listen now I would start with Te Amo Corazón - smooth and sensual.

Don't post much on here but sometimes I feel I need to, like now.

3121 is a special album for me. I heard Black Sweat and I was like 'Who is this?! What's that beat?!" Found out it was Prince and I was like 'Wow'. I knew who he was but didn't know much about him or his music. I was 15. That was the first album for me. Maybe cause I'm young, but I love this.

'3121' the track is FUCKING ridiculous funk. I mean... dirty, raw, *screwface* sound. That kind of funk makes me SWEAR. I WANT MORE OF THAT PRINCE-FUNK!

What I didn't like about 20Ten was that it sounded too 'clean'. I like it - love some songs on there - but for me, what makes it lacking is the 'clean' sound. On 3121 you hear the slight 'hiss' on tracks like 3121 and Black Sweat, like stuff from the 80's. It sounded raw. It sounded real. It sounded Prince.

The album is definitely special to me. It was the start of what has become the biggest change in the way I listen to and feel music ever. In my life. Prince did that to me, and it started with 3121.

Thank. U. Prince.

This is a GREAT CD....thumbs up!

The POP songs are a bit of a letdown (Lolita, Get On The Boat, Te Amo Corazon), but they are still very good songs.

The FUNK songs are among the best he's ever done (3121 and Black Sweat)

The R&B songs are the standouts for me (Incense and Candles, Love, The Word, Beautiful Loved & Blessed, The Dance)

The ROCK song (Fury) is another very good song.

That leaves (Satisfied). He's done better songs of this type.

Overall among one of his best CD, definately top ten.

Easily one of my favorites! I love the flow and the feel! I loved how he performed pretty much every one of these songs live! With the exception of Love, and incense and candles. He did all of this live! He has never done that in forever! Lol

It sounds fantastic too!! The clothes, and meaning is just funky and too cool! It is a party album for me!
