Easily one of my favorites! I love the flow and the feel! I loved how he performed pretty much every one of these songs live! With the exception of Love, and incense and candles. He did all of this live! He has never done that in forever! Lol

It sounds fantastic too!! The clothes, and meaning is just funky and too cool! It is a party album for me!

Nice flowing cd-I can listen to it straight through and never tire. Good one from Prince wink

How anybody can mention terms like flow and 3121 in one sentence is a miracle to me. This album doesn't flow at all. Besides it's full of rehash and cliché-ridden musical ideas.

All in all so not mindblowing, but boring.

I could care less for Love and Incense and Candles but the rest of the album is really good. Fury sounds a little average though, it's okay. I especially love the title track. I think I am the only one on the org that likes Lolita lol. I could do without the back and forth dialogue at the end however. Way better than Musicology. I would rank it right behind Lotusflower and Rainbow Children concerning his 2000s studio albums.

I like Lolita a lot! One of the best tracks of the album.

3121 is hardly my favourite album by Prince, but I don't find it hard to listen to in one sitting. It's got "flow" in that sense. I really can't say the same about, for example, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic.

I agree that it's too full of references to songs and arrangement styles that he did in the past. However, I think its only real weakness is just that it's just too full of pop fluff.

The main thing that ruins it is the Lolita call and response portion. He should have edited that out.

biggrin It is an incredibly silly call and response.

But I do kind of like how Lolita exclaims, "Dance?!?!"

Good album, I've got the piano book too. Really love the Dance but don't like the title track, Black Sweat or Lolita.

If I understand you right, you sort of feel entertained by the diversity of the songs.

To me the tracks sound quite interchangeable and not connected to each other at all. The highlight being "The Dance" followed by a track like "Get on the boat"! lol

But who am I to discuss an album I've listened only once all the way through?! Too funny! wink

It flows because of its party feel. It feels as if it was meant to jam and settle--->The Word, Te Amo Corazon, Satisfied Beautiful, Loved, And Blessed). It might be a rehash of musical ideas, but not many things are really NEW if you think about it. Prince has been in the game for years, so I don't expect him to measure all of the sounds in the universe creatively at one given album. You have every right to think it is boring, but no one said it was mind blowing..But just really Good. It's one of my favorites, I would take it above NewPower Soul! lol

Which isn't a bad album, but there is no 'flow' in that at all. lol

It's Button Therapy, Baby!

Sure, you can say that. I cannot honestly say that I HATE any Prince song. Incense and Candles is cluttered with the modern R&B musical cliches I dislike such as the autotuned intro and the rap style toward the end. It just doesn't move me. And I am sorry but Love sounds like a Britney Spears song. I like the funky guitar though;) It's better than I&C but meh compared to the others. Are you aiming to be grammatically corrective in your post? I don't understand your purpose lol.

Yeah I get that. It could have been cut down to the three minute mark and thus have been much more effective. I skip after that to Te Amo.

I love "Black Sweat", except the high pitched synth hurts my ears a little bit.eek

Has he ever performed that song live?

I see it as one of his 'for The Time/Morris' songs...the call and response would fit their steeze better.

Great album, a lot of very strong tracks. Black Sweat is the highlight, classic Prince thump and grind, the sexy ballad Incense and candles, Satisfied was another great ballad, the rock of Fury and despite the lyrics the Word is a very strong number. This album to me was his true comeback of the Millennium, better than Musicology and Planet Earth, but not quite as good as Lotusflow3r.

Despite all the hate for it here on the org, this is a decent album and the best part was the fact theres no self indulgence on it whatsoever. Clean and funky Prince.

Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

Yup, the 1st time he ever performed it was during the Acoustic Portion of his Musicology show in Chicago that I attended.

He did it a few times during that time period when he was in Vegas.
