Very well stated, my friend. To be honest, whatever it is that makes us all Prince "fans" at this point will always keeps us at least somewhat interested. I've invested too much of my time, heart, and money in the man and his music to ever just completely ignore him. In my opinion, he truly is one of the most talented people to walk the planet...and I mean that sincerely.

If someone had told you back in 1982 that a 27 year old artist (a dinosaur in present day) would have the streak he had from then until 1989, you would have had them comimtted. He made music in those 7 (coincedence?) years that no one to this day has topped. When you consider all the remixes, songs for other artists ("Glamorous Life," "Manic Monday," "Jungle Love," "Nothing Compares 2 U," etc.), and the fact that he not only wrote the songs, but produced them, recorded most of them by himself, peformed them live while singing AND playing multiple insturments...it's just mind-boggling.

I tend to give him the benefit of the doubt most of the time because I think everyone (us included) holds him to too high a standard. I mean...if someone (anyone) besides Prince had released "Emancipation" in 1995, they would've been on every other issue of Rolling Stone, won multiple awards, and granted early entry into the RNR HOF. Okay...maybe that's an exaggeration, but they would've been hailed as the "next big thing" without question.

TRC could have been a masterpiece if the "voice" had been left out. The music on that album is truly stunning. It was the first time in a LONG time that he sounded "hungry" again and it showed. But his ego got in the way (again) and most casual fans and critics tossed it into the sales (looney) bin. It's still one of my favorites, however. If I could find a copy with the voice omitted, I could die a happy man.

He's had his moments through the years, but even that work as a whole is vastly underrated considering the current state of music. His biggest (and IMO most tragic) mistake has been to crack down on the fansites, YouTube, and the Internet in general in recent years. So many young people ONLY find new music through those methods. Radio is dead, "music" television is nothing but reality shows anymore, and he has basically faded into obscurity.

I don't believe his impact will truly be felt or appreciated until after he's gone...and that's a shame. He can still bring it in concert, but there won't be any left to see. I feel sorry for those true music fans who haven't (or won't) ever see him live in concert. I think it will feel to them like The Beatles or Led Zeppelin does to me...true geniuses you wished you had grown up with. I consider myself lucky to have discovered his music when I was just 8 years old and that it has been with me for 28 years now. I wouldn't trade it for anything...even if I wish he had sometimes done things differently.

yeahthat clapping PERFECTLY SAID Man I wanna put this on a plaque or something!!!

Why do I think it's a good song and a vast improvement over most of his work in recent past? I think it's his restraint. Most of his recent new music, especially the atrocious MPLSound, is silly regurgitated music whipped together from a fridge like a hot dog in one minute. It smelled and tasted like it too.

I read Vainndy say he thought Symphonies and Operas were boring, and others dissing country music, while others thought it was bland. Yes, we all have different tastes, but if hot dogs is all you like and eat, then I what can I say? Only that maybe you should expand your horizons. Kinda depresses me vainandy can't enjoy a symphony.

While I love symphonies and Opera, and country music, and Motown and jazz and even silly stuff like LMFAO, I can appreciate this song for what it is, just a simple track that is a pleasure to listen to. Starfish And Coffee is a simple charming track, Sign O' The Times is a minimalist "Masterpiece" and Adore is a glorious R&B symphony. All completely different but I like them all.

The first thing that struck me about this song is the restraint. I could predict every cliched little flourishes that I think ruined almost every post 80's track on first listen. I could predict them like clockwork, all the overdubbs and his litle tricks. Always. But on this track, THEY ARE MOSTLY GONE. I dig that. I dig that there is no chorus. I like that I couldn't predict every little nuance like I could on 20ten. Like I could on MPLSound.

I like that slight touch of sophistication. Sophistication had been thrown under the bus for most of his post 80's work. The vocals here have depth and emotion. The lyrics are clever and seemingly honest. Things missing from his recent work.

No it's not a banging party track, nor a R&B ballad or any other traditional thing you would expect from Prince nowadays, but it's Prince doing what I love Prince does, changing things up. That's what I love about it.That it's NOT a party song or an R&B ballad. That it's not a hot dog and Pepsi. And if that's what you want and like you know exactly where to get that. But for me Prince has never been about hotdogs and Pepsi until recently. It's always been a buffet of things I had not expected, of flavors and tastes that I thought I would not like together but did.

If you watch the performances he did back in 83-87, he was musically talking up to you. He was playing jazzed up music with Sheila with bongos and horns and all kinds of stuff in long extended versions right on national TV like the Grammys and American Music awards. Talking up to you musically. He was enthusiastic about what he was doing, respected himself and his audience and didn't musically talk down to us.

This decade he took it as low as you can go, was talking down to us right at floor level on American Idol, with shitty ratty kids tracks like Lolita and Love. YIKES! What happened?

Like I said, if you find it boring and bland, and can't listen to anything other than your usual palette, then this isn't for you. That's not a bad thing, but some of us do. It's nothing ground breaking but it sure sounds good. To me at least.

Another post I whole-heartedly agree with. No, it's not "earth shattering," but there is definitely something different here than most of his recent work. It is simple, but still interesting. I particularly like his voice in this song...I think he mixes it up nicely.

That being said, I truly believe he has one last "game changer" left in him...whether it's a song or an album, time will tell.

I like (not love) the song. I just hope we can somehow get our hands on it.

ok, I am giving this tune many spins, liking it more as I listen.... thinking about adding this to my phone music library so I can take it on the road for some more spins..

Now wouldn't be funny if one of us was blasting this and Prince pulled up beside us? just a thought.... what do you think about this thought? would you be embarssed and sink into your seat, or be cool about it and say hello with a smile.

Myself I would look at him smile and say sexy "hey you like my new song"? wrote it myself..... falloff falloff falloff falloff falloff falloff falloff falloff falloff

I FINALLY heard it. Its very radio friendly. It's a song that full of allusions. It's probably why so many people wanna put their finger on a sing but just can't. I like it a lot...it works simply as well as deeply. It's an atypical blend of styles for prince. He the master of blends but they've been stale or sometimes bad. This is a good blend. I'm glad he was able to switch it up and come out with summin fresh and new. Cuz I've never heard a song quite line that before....and the vocals were perfect for topic and sound. Great delivery.

I would agree that it is radio friendly maybe 20 years ago but not now. Let me put it this way "Black Sweat" was very radio friendly for 2006 and I never heard it on the radio! I'm not saying you're saying this but I don't think this has a chance in hell to be ever heard on the radio today and probably won't be heard outside of us and all those who tuned in to Iheartradio on 9/17. It's unfortunate b/c although its not a masterpiece its a hell of alot better than any output you hear from Perry, minaj, bieber, and all the rest of 'em.

Yeah...don't get me wrong...lol....its radio friendly is another way of saying its not a niche sing like pfunk, glass cutters and whatnot. It's not a "purple flag" song. It's a song that someone with out a purple flag can easily appreciate. I guess radio friendly was a bad adjective cuz it imply it will get airplay...I COMPLETELY AGREE. It won't.

the song is up on YouTube now. I just listened to it. Not sure if I am allowed to post the link, but if you go to YouTube and search for it, it's easy to find.

Not crazy about the song on a first listen, but it may grow on me.

I think saying where it is, is pretty much the same as giving the link. I expect one of the mods may ask you to remove, or will snip your post. Just a heads up ; ) JT

Like the song.

Kind of a rock n roll / country song with a funky twist to it.

synthesizers instead of horns is my only gripe.
