Not really, he was paid (probably handsomely) for it in advance. It's the newspapers/magazines who gave it away for free.

Yes, "Ten", in that funny script type, has all of the letters to create "Prince"....lower case "r"....upper case "I"

MJ was a brilliant singer/dancer...best of all time, however, that's all he was. Let's not compare him to Prince, best musician of all time, but rather, compare him to someone like Sammy Davis Jr (who I don't hear anyone calling a musical genius).

Even to this day you comparing MJ to Sammy Davis Jr is dumber than my own signature, which is making fun of Prince.org legend Bart Van Halen.

Sammy did not write a song like Billie Jean, and Sammy did not write the vocal arrangement to anything like Earth Song. Michael is nowhere near as talented as Prince, but Michael never would've let Tony M within 400 miles of his stage, and even Michael's worst song after 1979 is nowhere near as bad as Jughead or Wedding Feast.

Michael wrote the first four singles from Thriller, and 6 of the 7 singles from Bad. They may not be as musically challenging as many Prince songs, but to compare Michael to Sammy Davis Jr is like comparing Michael Jordan to Bruce Springsteen as athletes. Prince could've been bigger than the Beatles if he had any marketing sense....Do you think Michael would have released billions of albums with each one selling less and less than the last? Do you think Michael Jackson would have someone like Shelby in his band shouting "Put Your Hands Up," almost a thousand times a night? Your signature makes me sick. Prince is my favorite, but I'm not gonna make a bad analogy to get the point over.

Sorry to be so harsh, but if you think Michael Jackson was just a dancer and entertainer, then you really should do your homework on his songwriting skills. Perhaps you should read what Paul McCartney said about working with him. Oh, I guess you probably think McCartney is on the same level as Tony Bennett.....right?
