But I can hum it so it must be memorable. It has a pattern that ebbs and flows. All solos should do that. Hence why I love Flying in a Blue Dream so much.

I believe the song "Batdance" is a ridiculous piece of crap that was a clear cashgrab. I can't even think of the solo you're referring to; "Batdance" is probably my least-listened to track of his entire catalog.

So there's that.

No it didn't! it was one of the best live versions of that song. Besides on the Act 1 Act II tour.

i agree about act 2 version being good but Rave version is awful because of Prince's plastic guitar sound and unispired solo.the only thing saving it from disaster is Larry's monster bass groove.if you wanna hear amazing version of this song check for paisley p. Celebration of the song. It's crazy good.it sounds like another guitar player compared to Rave version.Something was very off during Rave period.Even Purple Rain was performed very poor

eye like the sound of it. That is all that matters..Prince would never put anything out unworthy... eye heard the PP version. it is better... eye agree on that....

not true, like every guitar player he have good and bad days.Prince weakest live playing was well documented on cafe de paris and rave 2000 dvds.Sometimes he even play lazy studio guitar solo.New Power Soul title track from 1998 comes to my mind.so Prince have bad moments, but many fans will kiss his behind and say he don't
Nobody's kissing ass. Give me a break.

You took the words right out of my mouth. I will elaborate on ,y response...no one is always going to be right on the mark every time, but to say worst is a stretch in IMHO. Guitar is a main instrument next to the piano.

The worst compared to Prince standard.PRINCE'S WORST SOLOS could be some anothers best. Prince is great a great guitar player ,always was, always will be,but like every other guitar player he had his good, great and bad playing nights,or even studio performances.IT can happen to every guitar player .Satriani and Vai had off nights also.Bruce Springsteen played some amazing transeding solos ,but Bruce have also played some pretty slopy and bad solos. It's a normal thing and it can happen on every instrument because of various reasons like bad timing, execution, monitoring problems, lack of practise. So name Princes bad guitar moments

The one from the Alladin DVD when they do 'Whole Lotta Love' is a giant letdown. Prince and the NPG pretty much tear the song up and then they get to the solo part and he just pretty much does nothing and then lays a hanky over his axe. Weak.

I agree. Batdance is right up there with the best Prince tracks period. I think some folks cannot get past the mainstream commercial Batman aspect of the song to appreciate it for what it is. But everything about the track is interesting. It was nice to hear a Prince track as experimental as this hit the charts and become a top 10 hit. It truly is a bizarre track, whether it was attached to a mainstream commercial movie or not. The guitar groove on the second half is a classic all on it's own.

Really, you think Batdance is a weird track? It's a remix without the "Remix" classification. Just sounds like any typical 1989 pop remix to me. Same pattern is seen on GB where Junior Vasquez did all those mix jobs.

Batdance kind of sounds like a lot of the not-great tracks from around that time, but remixed with no chorus/verse structure. But it's interesting to hear it called 'weird'... I think Cream is much weirder, for instance.

My opinion:

Aint no Junior Vasquez shit that sound remotely interesting like all the layers and underlying musical fragments and patterns in Batdance which combine live played takes of instruments, samples from the movie, interesting lyric fragments that really stretch the idea away from Batman the movie, and programmed beats and patterns, with Prince's teaser trailer style of including bits of songs (including some unreleased). And he manages to throw it all out there in a seemingly raw and rough demo vibe. I'd say its quite logically more unique than Cream. Cream is a very retro conservative song in terms of structure, lyric, production, and vocal performance (compare Batdance in any of those parameters). Cream''s very well crafted and polished pop thats also an homage to the old T-Rex song. But more conventional like much of that album.

Just one of the suite sections of Batdance alone seems more unique to my ears.

I hate when Junior Vasquez touched any of the Prince stuff. Completely boring remixes there. Vasquez is a bore! I HATE house music.

I have to agree about Vazquez, and I will drag William Orbit in this too. They make EVERY track they touch sound like the same exact dance tack.

To me, when Prince started using William Orbit to remix his tracks, it spelled the end of a great era.

There are none, unless he is just plodding along on a rhythm guitar track. Most of his best songs have solos (Even the ones on his early albums, Bambi's solo of which I am listening to now, is still outstanding). Most of the songs have guitar solos and at least some guitar breaks in them, as he has always been a leader, he may have recorded rhythm guitar parts in the studio, but on stage he always makes sure a band member is usually playing the rhythm guitar parts while Prince does the soloing. And even then he's had a lot of great gutiarists who have been allowed to solo on stage and jam at times and inspire Prince. Dez, Wendy, Miko and Levi come to mind.

Maybe some of his later plastic sounding songs are less great. A lot of the guitar on Hot wit U and Rave un2 the Joy fantastic sounds pretty cliche, but not bad.

Prince is just a guitar god period. Piano may be his main instrument, but I bet guitar is his favourite.

You know, I'm not one to really say this, BUT I think its silly to think he has 'WORST' guitar solos. I mean, YES he may have some that are not favorable, but he has not done a solo that is HORRIBLE. IMO. I can't think of many times he has done a solo, where he messed up. He has a way of fixing it in such a consistent way, it's hard to tell. Did you know one of the strings came off while performing 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'. No one could tell really, because he's a very skilled guitarist. Granted at times he seems to just pick up a guitar & just improvise, but it sounds better than most ones. In other words, on his WORST day, he is better than many on their BEST DAY. While that might be a 'Stan' approach, I don't care..Hahaha. Prince is crazy good with guitar. I am really stretching it on my sentiments here I know..BUT it's obvious his quick and skilled focus on guitar is remarkable.

He performs it effortlessly almost as if it, he took and just mastered it in no time. I just read comments from "The Greatest Guitar Solo Ever' on YouTube just yesterday, and it is NO surprise that even as weird, and crazy Prince could be, pretty much anyone can say, that anytime he picks up a guitar he brings a need lesson to it. Some who were NOT Prince fans, listened to the encouragement one fan brought to check out his performance from Montreaux. They became instantly mesmerized with his skills. Not many people realize, how awesome he is with guitar. He seems to know how to play anything, that says a lot about someone who took years to learn without going to school. He really manages to interpret solos pretty well. Even if we don't like it, to say it's BAD, should only make sense in our taste for it. Not the influence and skill he delivered it in.

WITH THAT BEING SAID...

He does have some uninspired solos. Such as "Whole Lotta Love" at the Aladdin DVD. The one on Indigo Nights is far more inspiring, and just in the flow.

'The Holy River' when he performed that at the Rosie o Donald Show, while it was great, it seemed a bit uninspired.

I honestly think, his TV performances lack inspiration, it seems he just does it for the GLAM and showmanship of it all. I wish he could shred it each time like he did when he performed Motherless Child! Now that's inspiring! WHEW!!!

They're times where his playing seems off, as if he just did it because he could, and had to. BUT, I would never say that it's his worst. I would just say, I did not manage to convey all of the emotions, and virtues, he's more than capable of. confused

WE do know he can LAY DOWN when he really wants too. headbang
