I don't know about Prince being the GREATEST songwriter of all time--but I am certainly appreciating some of his best efforts right now! Also, gotta give kudos for Smokey for some timeless classics... wink

Amazon sells some used copies for decent prices from sellers--that's where I got my first Come CD. Also, Amoeba Records, where I bought almost all of my Prince CDs, sells online and doesn't charge shipping. They actually had 20Ten in stock in their store after I bought it online from Ebay! Some big Prince fans there!razz lol

Yeah, that's the one I still don't have. lol Just too got-dang expensive! Good luck to finding them again. I just bought my collection two years ago. Believe it or not, I didn't listen to Prince for fifteen years until I heard "Better With Time" on the local R&B radio station and I loved the song so I decided to check up on the guy who used to give me such eargasms way back when. That's how I ended up here and knew about where to go last year to see him for the first time in my life, even though I started listening to him in the early 80s! razz lol Have fun rebuilding your collection! biggrin

They don't have to - Rundgren is still the bee's knees.

I wanna fall down and worship every time I hear "A Dream Goes on Forever".

Nursev - Yes, I love Prince lol. Yes, he's a hell of a writer and probably my favorite musician, period; has been for years and I don't see that changing anytime soon. At the same time, I have to give credit where it's due.

Bob Dylan?

John Lennon?

Stevie Wonder? (Already mentioned)

Prince is great when it comes to composing and performing music - perhaps even the best. But when it comes to lyrics, he's not even one of the best. Not saying he's terrible, but nothing too special lyrically.

That's funny. My son's father told me when he was a kid he would go around the house singing Barry Manilow songs. His relatives who liked funk were omg To this day, he won't admit it to anyone. lol But, Prince is way more cool than any Barry Manilow...

I completely agree. I think we have to rank at least Lennon/McCartney, Springsteen, Dylan, Bowie,

Wonder, Paul Simon and Joni Mitchell above Prince when it comes to songwriting, regardless of how

much we love his music...

Cole Porter pwns both of them.

But, Prince's songs are really, really great, except for the ones that suck ass.

He is ONE of them, that's fer sure.

But to name some others in my list:

Irving Berlin

George and Ira Gershwin

Cole Porter

Charlie Chaplin

Lennon/McCartney

Babyface

STEVIE WONDER

Michael Jackson

Bob Dylan

plus many more.

This is in no particular order, and each listing is simply my own personal taste. This is not a list for comparison to Prince. Each person listed are great songwriters in their own right in my eyes.

ThruTheEyesOfWonder has spoken.
