the arms of orion-quite a beautiful piece of music

This is a song i have ignored for years remembering it as somewhat dull and a wee bit shmaltzy when i was younger

but my word jut started listening to it again-what a sumptious little song this is

and the final minute is a sublime little piece of music

who'd have thunk it! lol

^ He means The Arms Of Orion. "I love it." smile

Anyway...yeah, one of the better jams on "Batman." To steal a quote--I love it. wink

the b-side is far better than the a-side:

"I Love U In Me". wow that song is soooo good... I have never really liked The Arms Of Orion.

Someone once said the Orion song reminds of Celine Dion music.. eek

it's ok, but not a classic,

I liked the other singles from Batman a lot better.

Batdance,

Partyman,

Scandalous.

omfg nod ..I guess it does? I love Celine Dion, and all of her music is heaven to me. The song does sound like something she could sing. Haha. I listen to it occasionally, and it makes me feel good. It SOUNDS like a 90's Disney Movie soundtrack. Haha, It reminds me of Disney totally, when I listen to it. AND that fact alone isn't bad for me because of the Nostalgic childhood memories...lol. it's Awesome for that reason alone for me. lol

Well, I'd rank the Batman album this way:

Scandalous!

Partyman

Trust

The Arms Of Orion

Electric Chair

Lemon Crush

Vicki Waiting

Batdance

The Future

But yeah, The Arms Or Orion isn't bad.

Don't ask me why I don't like The Future.

Batdance seems like he made it on one of his ecstasy trips. And the video doesn't help me change that opinion very much. wink

EDIT: PS: I WISH he would've used Dance With The Devil in there. Yes, it was dark, but DAMN if it wouldn't have fit in there somehow.

i think what makes it extra special is having scotlands greatest singer of all time (at that point, as susan boyle hadn't been discovered then) duet on the song with the wee boy from paisley

It's a brilliant song in my opinion and shows Prince's versatility - usually Prince's music has a very natural, raw and free flowing feel about it - but this song is sophisiticated and very tightly put together - though not tightly enough to be contrived.

I also think the message is pretty deep - it's really romantic - the song leaves you wondering - is it about two people who aren't seeing things the same way - or two people who are literally far apart physically - the song doesn't say.

But, ahh, that is the wonder of Prince... heaven know's. but at the same time we know.

In fairness I think the song get's a bad wrap, I actually love it even if it's one of the more standard and less ground breaking of his songs

Ermm.. interestingly, wikipedia only sites Sheena Easton as the writer... that can't be right.. http://en.wikipedia.org/w...s_of_Orion But, does anyone remember a couple of years ago Prince gave an interview for the Times and was quoted as saying he didn't write the song?! Lol... I'm sure when the interviewer asked him to play it , Prince pulled a face and said something derogatory about it and that he never in fact wrote it!?? Please help!? Did he write it?

Not Disney exactly. It's an attempt to re-make "Somewhere Out There" from "An American Tale".

love it, always thought it got a bad rap. not one of his "bedroom ballads" but its a nice poppy little ballad. i can see why some say its Celine-ish, but P's versatility is on good display. Sounds like he wrote it to me, those lyrics seem like his steez

I gotta cop to loving this song--one of my guilty pleasures. Yeah, it's kind of schmaltzy (witness the timpani), and I would never listen to it in front of anyone else, but I don't care--I like it. If he were to bust out this song as a duet on the latest tour I think he could turn it into something really special.

I was on a high from this song ealier in the summer. Coming home from work I'd flip the record on the turntable and just relax to iton repeat. I had to learn to like it when listening to teh Batman soundtrack all the way thru a couple times, but now it's a known fav of mine.

Yes, at 19, I finally saw the Revolution, a legendary band. And I talked to Wendy!!! biggrin In addition to seeing Prince, I have now lived life. Thank you Purple People!!

I forgot about that song, but yeah, "Arms Of Orion" sounds just like it.

I love this song, though. I always thought it was pretty hated, so I'm shocked by all the love it's getting. I love the music and the vocals, and the lyrics are nice, even if they are 'cheesy' or 'schmaltzy'.

This song is ALL in my head now...lol headbang

It's a Disney song to me, and I like Disney songs when the memory is there! lol This song takes me places, the vocals work for me. It some how fits on 'Batman'. Haha I would rather "I Love U In Me' instead on the album. 'Arms Of Orion' could be a B-side instead. smile

I like it a lot actually. The ending instrumentation in particular. I wish that melody would make an appearance in a future track or re-recording ala "U're Gonna C Me (MPLSoUND)".
