Absolutely. In addition, I appreciate that YouTube provides a means to get messages to people who otherwise may be uncontacable, but asking for something of that magnitude in public kinda puts a person on the spot.

If Prince does nothing then he's an arsehole in the eyes of joe public.. If he does then the floodgates open to similar requests. He can't do it all. Charity should always be a personal choice.

Not taking anything away from the boy. He's obviously going through a rough time.

I really don't get this POV. If he decided to do something like this for this boy, it would NOT mean he would have to do it for everyone that asked. It's not first grade. People are allowed to pick and choose things that effect them and are able to work out.

The internet is dead to Prince, so he would have no way of knowing about this. Which is exactly what he wants. He wants control of the information that comes to him. And he has it. That is why he uses Dr. Funkenberry. His only contact with the internet is what he tells his people to tell Funkenberry. His people don't tell him anything about what Funkenberry says. The information flows only one way. If that girl Shelbey had had a website or a blog as popular, she would have been Funkenberry for sure.

So for all of you who think he might help this boy out, think again. But maybe this message will get to a Prince cover band or something. The one in Vegas was pretty good - Purple Reign I think they were called.

you type with such certainty. Yes, Prince says the internet is dead....but he has said he was retireing before also...we have all seen examples of Prince saying one thing but doing another. Do you know for a fact the statements you made about why and how he uses Dr. Funkenberry? and that the information only goes one way?

I agree with you that I don't think Prince will do this, but I hope he does.

Yes, so selfish that he's donated something like $1 million dollars already this year, shame on him! disbelief

Did you send a donation to this family?

Who said anything about donations? Little dude just wants a performance, and would most likely appreciate a simple handshake or "hello" in person for his father. He didn't ask for any money, and was speaking only to Prince.

rolleyes

He doesn't publicize a lot of his givings, except when doing so would draw attention to the organization and perhaps bring in more $$ for them. A portion is a tax write-off for him, just like donations are for every other person in the U.S.. Some of the orgs are the ones who say how much he's helped them, it's not like he sends out a press release on himself.

If Prince does do anything, I all but guarantee it won't be made public. The family will most likely have to sign something to keep it quiet.

The problem with situations like this, as has been alluded to on this thread, is that of course Prince fans are no more immune to tragedy than anyone else, and if it gets out that this video resulted in Prince doing something for the boy and his father, then YT will be flooded with further requests, on the basis that "you did something for them, what about my father/sister/husband/etc..."

Of course he can pick and choose, but if news spreads that he picked even one, then people who normally wouldn't 'bother' making such a plea on the basis that 'he never does that stuff' will no doubt change their minds and give it a shot and that's a whole new boatload of false hope for many people who Prince will not necessarily be able to help.

I hope he's able to arrange something for this family, and that they are able to raise some funds as a result of the video going somewhat viral (I think a donation on behalf of the org is a lovely gesture), but I doubt we'll hear anything definitive regarding an outcome.

In any case, much love to this family during what's no doubt a very difficult time rose

Very sad for the family, but this is NOT something that should have been done. This is really unfair to Prince. Now this kid has put him on the spot and got fans all in an uproar if he doesn't do anything about it. Which honestly, he shouldn't.

While its a nice thing to do, he's not put on the Earth to grant every fans wish when tragedy strikes. It opens up a can of worms that Prince doesn't need. I just think the entire thing needs to stop, its very unfair for the celebs. They have lives too and can't go running everytime tragedy strikes a family.

The idea that Prince should fly them out and pay the expenses? Why? Because the kid asked him to? What about all the other fans who love him and want to see him? Should Prince do the same for them? No way!!! While I believe this was made with good intentions perhaps, it shouldn't have been made.

I would suggest Prince and his camp to just ignore this and not give it any attention, otherwise they are just asking for trouble...And that won't make Prince selfish or uncaring, its just smart business. I'd just let this one go..

Prince is GORGEOUS. I'm inspired. GOD is GREAT. Is there anything else to say? lol

Ahh, ok.

Still, the boy didn't mention or imply that he wanted money. And children have been doing this for years, except usually via letters to TV show hosts. Nevertheless, Oprah wouldn't even be able to help grant this request for this child.

I wish he had asked someone else, like Bono, or somebody. neutral

No.

If you actually watch the clip, you will find out exactly what the boy's request is.

disbelief IMO what Prince really does not need are crazy fams who follow his every move, defend every mistake he makes, worship him as if he was God and hope that one day they will be his new wife shrug.

I am pretty sure Prince will just ignore the boy's wish sad.

these situations are a no win for prince...if he performs..then everyone who has some kind of illness will be lining up to plead for him to do something...if he doesnt do anything....the kid will be heartbroken and prince will get flak for it...

.

i personally think that prince should write him a wee letter and maybe..on the quiet...give him something...

.

feel heart sorry for the kid but i think its unreasonable to expect him to perform...prince does what he can to help people less fortunate...we know that already..

People are acting like this is something out of the ordinary. Like I said, celebs do things like this through Make A Wish and even on their own at times and I've never heard of such gestures resulting in the celeb being bombarded with similar requests or any such chaotic results.

This is a child and he isn't putting any burden on Prince, he's only making a request. No sensible person is going to condemn Prince if he doesn't respond, rolleyes

Why some folks gotta make a career out of over-reacting when it comes to P? Already they imagine the whole band setting up in the guy's living room or Prince having to fly the family across the country or opening a line of credit for them... lol Calm down already.

When Prince donated to the American Ballet Theatre, did the Bolshoi, The Dance Theatre of Harlem or the Joffrey Ballet come runnng with their hands out? What makes anybody think that dozens of terminally ill fams are suddenly going to bombard youtube with pleas? Sheesh! disbelief

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.
