Of course! If the free releases people chose to share exclusively amongst very CLOSE friends since the beginning Eye (and Sab) wouldn't have been able to release a lot of stuff they did: they simply would've never smelt it.

Your opinions to desperately defend (and promote) the Eye release are shameful.

They're a stain on this thread.

Honestly this release is totally overrated. Very interesting to hear this gig with a good sound but it is miles away from his best performances.

I thought we already had enough with one person not knowing what he's talking about...

I'm dying to know which ones you consider 'his best performances'.

Everybody should know by now you're an Eye-promotor (or even more....).

The quality is exactly the same, they just ripped the free release and, like you say yourself, pumped the volume a bit. It isn't clearer at all, just louder, that's it. No additional eq'ing has been done, except in your imagination and their promotion. (because it wasn't needed of course)

Easy money once again by the "profiteers"....

Oh....the additional 7 min they brag about have no music at all, just crowd and a bit of pa. They were editted out for good reasons and to make it fit on regular 80min cdr.

That's a terrible insult. Because I like a few of the recent Eye releases? Like the Welcome 2 America DVD's, which are AMAZING, and now this? Get lost.

The Eye release is 10 times better than the free release. In all aspects. And this is the kind of show you don't want to have edited by some loser "to make it fit on a disc". Jeez.

That's like cropping Mona Lisa to make her fit your cheap ass IKEA frame.

^^Sab (IN THE PAST) did a tremendous job but as of late they've become a pale reflection of what they were.

Bar a few Vegas and some other recent stuff I could perfectly live without and I'll have nothing good to say about Eye. They're mainly rippers and their releases are mostly pathetic.

See, that's the difference between a clueless Eye-promotor and me, you're just slinging around insults, without answering the main question I asked:

"did Eye ask Anonymous' opinion"?? Well, did they?

Or let me rephrase it: do you really think he wanted Eye to rip this? Don't you think he would have given it to Eye in the first place if he wanted to? And why do you think he didn't? Simple: because he wanted to share this gem for FREE with the entire community in the best possible quality, without someone making a profit of it. And yes, he approved the work of "those idiots" who did the editting. And yes, the nice artwork was approved to.

Now maybe this was just a test from his side, I guess he will think twice now. wink

Luckily Eye just ripped the free release and only raised the volume a bit (and added the useless crowdnoise), that way they didn't fuck up the quality, because let's face it: they never stood out in "mastering skills". In fact, all they ever do, is smack a raw recording onto pressed cd, only raising the levels, that's as far as their techniques reach. Wether they call themselves Optimum, Ladybird, NPG or Eye, it has always been like that and will never change. Easy money for the "profiteers".

I don't know what the fuck you talk about... "dude".

I was stating my opinion on something. But apparantly I stepped on some sensetive feet. I am sure the source would like the fans to have the complete show with beautiful packaging. Not some edited shit with inkjet printouts. But hey, what do I know?

He won't reply to your question because he (and everybody else) already knows the answer: NO, Eye Records didn't have any contact with Annonymous (let alone permission to release his source).

They just ROBBED it, like they mostly do.

And robbing robbed stuff which is made available for free to sell it to third parties is the lamest thing a bootlegger could do.

Not everybody can have CLASS.

The first sensible thing you wrote!!

Can't you read? Haven't you just seen a post stating that THE SOURCE was ok with the free release (even with the edited USELESS NONSENSE)?

It's pointless that you're trying so hard to defend a few fucking minutes of crowd noise as if it was something 'exclusive' and 'really worth paying for'.

If THE FANS hadn't put this out first, Eye would've never had gotten hold of such a source, AND YOU KNOW IT.

It's happened many times before, and it will happen again unless the main fan labels decide not to share in the open anymore and distribute the stuff only among trusted people.

And Eye and Sab and the idiots who support them will be eventually causing this to happen.

Jesus christ, you are stupid.

I was stating my opinion that one release is 10 times better than the other one.

I didn't take a moral standpoint. I don't care about Mr. Anon. What do you think Prince would think if he found out about that loser. Mr. Anon is nothing but a thief. As are the rest of us listening to stuff Prince didn't choose to release. And then you start talking about class and profiteering. It's just funny shit.

If you're listening to unreleased stuff you should want it to be as good as it can be. You have already crossed the moral line. You are already a thief. No matter if you pay dollars for a hard drive, blank CDR's and a printer, or a pressed disc.

Because someone else in the world has robbed, it's OK to rob loads more people yourself

Calling your bread and butter names? Great idea. Enjoy your cardboard wrapped iPhone recorded bootlegs, because the soundboard cash well has probably just run dry for you and your EYE brethren.

I can't see Anony wanting to play this game. I wouldn't.

Prince and crew should be the only ones profiting from his music. That's why free labels exist. History shows that we will not be getting these shows from Mr Nelson, so the fans sort of have to be keepers of his legacy. If Purps did decide to release these historic shows, we fans would purchase them in a heartbeat - existing boots or not. Profiteers like EYE, lovesigne, etc who "acquire" audio from freely shared sources and sell them are more of a slap in the face to fans than anything nefarious Prince has done to his core fan-base. Free labels are hard core fans.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Anyway, you've already showed your only resource is resorting to namecalling. No wonder you can't talk about class.

And YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS, everybody who don't buy Eye Records' releases is a loser. Even if some of those 'losers' make possible the release of sources Eye Records (LATER) profits from.

Really, you NEED mental care.

blahblah

Give me a couple days, till the Eye release shows up for free, I'll compare the two.

IF what we've read here is true, the only sonic difference is loudness, I'm pretty friggin' sure I'll be one of the MANY people that like the free release better.

I expet you will be proven correct. I predict not one single person disagrees with you. I predict many single persons, making up the majority, will strongly disagree with you.

Regardless... you are rude even if your ass isn't sorry.

It is a well known fact that over-burned & 90 minute CDs are notorious for playability/compatibility issues with many players. Anyone who actually pays for the Eye release just to have a silver CD would totally deserve any playability issues they may have. biggrin

I, myself, being a completist, will do as I stated above, and download the Eye version for free anyway. I wouldn't pay $ for a bootleg in the 21st century cause I'm not rich or stupid. wink

You don't get my point. You are a thief going against what Prince wants already when you're listening to stolen recordings.

Now you're trying to value if it's better to listen to these stolen recordings if they come from people who do it in order to get cred here, or from people who do it to get cred elsewhere.

Like I said. I don't care. I have already taken the descision to listen to recordings that are stolen. Recordings that Prince doesn't want people to hear. So when I do that, in case of First Avenue 1984, the Eye release kicks the free release's ass. Not once or twice. But 20 times. And that is my opinion. I have no connection to them what so fucking ever. But people replying to my posts seem to have quite a few connections.

I just hope that Anonymous, 4DF, FBG and all other people who release and/or improve outtakes and live recordings realise that the majority of people really appreciate and love what they give to and share with the p community. just to name two examples of the many possible ones, Box of chocolates and this 1984 soundboard are the very best things that got released the last years, including what prince released himself. And there are so much more, compare the catalog of 4DF and FBG to what Eye and Sabotage put out the last years.

It is very annoying that labels like Eye rip off the free labels. When was the last time they came with something new and exciting? That there are people who defend them baffles me. But to each his own. What's important: they're the minority.

Yeah, the bickering is silly. But every time that the EYE Records marketing director posts here, he just bumps this thread, which hopefully hips a few more people to the original free release.

Which is free, by the way.

Let's change it up.

Anyone with the least amount of guilt or remorse about having and enjoying the free Birthday Show release could always donate to a charity close to Prince's heart, or one of their choosing.

Wouldn't that be better than purchasing a boot?

It's Prince's Birthday tomorrow. Pay it forward. I have and will.
