Prince's Most "Uninspired" Song?

What do you think was Prince's most uninspired song officially released?

Can't think of one that is uninspired. I think that even his worst song has some meaning to him. Interested to see what others have to say.

Everything released after the year 1999.

I always thought "Rave Un2 The Joy Fantastic" was too forgettable a song to be the title track of an album.

Maybe I misunderstood the question. Is the question asking what songs we find uninspiring, or which songs make us think he was uninspired when writing them (he just threw them together)? If the latter, my response remains. If the former, there are several songs that do not inspire me:

New Power Soul except The One
The Gold Experience except Endorphinmachine, Shhh and I Hate U
Any song with Tony M

It's impossible for us to answer what songs he wrote in an "uninspired" state. Only Prince knows how he felt when he wrote each one. "Inspiration" is a very personal thing. We can only answer from what sounds "uninspired" to us...

But anyway, I'd put these up as contenders (first 5 that come to mind):

These aren't necessarily "bad" songs, just songs that, to me, sound kind of uninspired - songs that don't really bring anything new to the table and/or feel kind of... empty

All The Midnights In The World - short, cliche smooth ballad snooze-fest!

Lemon Crush - repetitive, no hook, lame lyrics
Loose! - repetitive, no hook, lame attempt at dance music
We Gets Up - just an all-round cheese-fest
With You - sappy attempt at a love ballad, even for 1979!

You guys are taking the term "uninspired" wrong.

Definition of INSPIRED

: outstanding or brilliant in a way or to a degree suggestive of divine inspiration <gave an inspired performance>

Examples of INSPIRED

  1. She gave an inspired performance.
  2. He was an inspired choice for the role.

First Known Use of INSPIRED

15th century

Rhymes with INSPIRED

Most of the tracks on The Slaughterhouse sound uninspired to me. Like he didn't really have a lot to express, but had a skillful autopilot.

It's so hard for me to pick just one uninspired song off of MPLSound. I guess I'll go with Never B Another Like Me. No, wait...I think Chocolate Box is more uninspired. Or maybe Dance 4 Me. It's hard to pick just one. Can I just say that whole album?

Inspiration might also mean the opposite of expiration, and then his most inspired song would be Breathe.

How many songs does he have, hundreds? He has a lot of great, good, fair, and bad songs. I don't want to list any, but he has some of crap out there.

Wait a minute now...I'm not into all that!

yeahthat

and everything else after that pretty much highlights the circle of subjective dialogue so prevalent on the org. cause i LOVE Lemon Crush (quite a funky groove goin' on there and fun lyrical arrangement) and enjoy Loose, to me its not an attempt at "dance" music more so than a foray into "electronica"

I'm assuming you mean a song that's derivative or feels like he didn't really put much effort or thought into it?

There are so many now. Had this thread been started around the LoveSexy album, I would have laughed off the title.

But now there's just too many to count.

The whole of New Power Soul minus the ballads. MPLSound, 20Ten, (I'm talking whole albums), much of Planet Earth, and just about everything from the Plastic years (1996-1999).

It's not that it's bad. For the most part, it's pretty ok. I think some critic once said it best when he reviewed the Batman album--"it's not that it's a bad album. It's a good album. It's just that with Prince, you expect so much more."..end quote

I entertain this silly fantasies that he's giving everyone crap while self-indulgently placing masterpieces in the vault. But, after some of the hype over previous "brilliant" albums like Musicology, Emancipation, and 20Ten, I have serious doubts about that. lol

You're a real fucker. You act like you own this place--ParanoidAndroid <-- about as witty as this princess gets! lol
I hope everyone pays more attention to Sags posts--sweething mushy

Erm... What you quoted doesn't have anything to do, at all, with the original post.

Wedding Feast and We Gets Up still sound inspired, though... they just sound like Prince was inspired to write something that everybody hates (I can tolerate Wedding Feast [it does what it came to do], but We Gets Up is my most-hated Prince song ever).

My vote: Hot Wit U. It sounds like he was commissioned to write a jingle for a damn sports drink.
