No, but I have heard the entire contents of the iVault at various stages through the years as most tracks were on older boots. And I have a shitload of pressed and CD-r purchased or traded boots dating back to the late 80s.

I'm not lying and I hope that doesn't make me sad, but rather a fan of the music and historical aspect behind the creative process.

I definitely have listened to iVault through and through. I still have it on one of my drives simply cuz I have fuckloads of material on there.

The MP3s contained in the iVault series sound largely similar to what an mp3 of The Work would sound, with some minor additions like the snippets of various shit. Chronological and labeled in interesting ways (it contains tracks from 30 Yrs of Funk and labels them separately, even if its not a different mix - weird).

The set is only, in my estimation, for people new to collecting who want to get a sample of stuff. Its a large sample cuz well Prince has a lot of material. But its useful in that situation. And all personal judgments aside, some people don't feel like going through the task of converting lossless stuff to something usable on their portable devices, etc. Additionally, mainstream softwares like iTunes and shit won't play lossless formats that aren't proprietary. AKA it just makes the whole thing easier for people not inclined to do that work and I can't say I blame them.

But I digress. You asked, I'm sure, for a critique of the sound quality and it ain't too hot. Not a lot of artifacting on tracks that didn't have a lot to begin with (look out "Strange Relationship" *cringe*), but nothing that a serious collector would listen to.

iTunes plays WAVs just fine; VLC and WMP play FLAC just fine.

The Work and iVault are great, but too much. It's great to have as a complete set, but does anyone really sit around going "Man, I wish I could hear Instrumental #7 from 1977!" or "I wish there was a slightly different version of 'Sonny Jumps the DJ'!".

I broke mine down into just outtake songs, and even then took out the garbage (The P?? Come on.) It took me a while to give up the goods, but I realized hanging onto 127 versions of Soul Psychedelicide was just lunacy.

I'd be interested to see what differences there are, as I still have burnt CDs of The Work as my best quality Prince outtakes. Truth be told, there's been so much new interesting stuff that I've loved over the past 6 years that I haven't really sought out anything better.
