how, specifically? I'm not saying it is not, just asking how?

In other places that does seem clear "her children in subjection to her and her in subjection to the wise one and the wise one in subjection to the one true god" though the wise one could be Jesus if JW's consider Jesus separate from "the one true God," in which case I would suggest it is not sexist, but simply religious

"Ain't no room for disagree" is basically saying, "Your opinion doesn't matter. Only mine does." And I think a lot is implied by "there's a theocratic order" in the song. I don't think Prince means it in a traditional sense. He seems to be saying there's an order of God>Man>Woman>Children.

The Wise One can't be Jesus because it's clear he's with the woman romantically. Unless I'm reading the song wrong, the Wise One is Adam. When the woman, Eve, is "assimilated," she and five others are banished (I presume the Wise One, Cain and Abel, and whoever the two others are...presumably one of them a female so the human race can begin through biblically condoned incest).

I always thought the "Wise One" was Prince casting himself in the "role" of Adam...Mayte being Eve.

1+1+1=3 is God, man, woman.

A good portion of TRC is like a stylistic retelling of the breakup of his first marriage, his conversion and subsequent remarriage. Same with parts of ONA.

He takes facts and events in his life and mythologizes them in the retelling...kind of like the Mayte/Egyptian Princess construct in the 3 Chains story.

Prince has a very interesting mind.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

How can you encapsulate an entire decade of music in 1 song? It's not possible.

biggrin I could not agree more. I read the thread just to see some of the responses, because my first thought was that there were too many to for me to narrow 10 years of music to 1 song. I can't even narrow it to 10.

Hard choice, but I would have to say Last December from The Rainbow Children. Just a thought-provoking epic...biggrin

well, of course only his opnion matters--he's prince! That's how it's always been! lol

But I digress. I've been looking for this "Theocratic Order" and there are references to it but I don't see any definition of it as being God>Man>Woman>Children. Again, I am not saying you're wrong, just that the whole thing is pretty vague.

As far as I am reading (courtesy Google), the "order" seems to be more of a group, like an "order of nuns" than a hierarchy.

I agree the wise one could be read as Adam, but I personally would not describe Adam as that. Especially since Eve achieved knowledge before him.

But it is religion combined with Prince lyrics, confusion is to be expected. But that is part of why I can't be outraged, I can't make much sense of it at all!

I kinda worry that we're jacking the thread here and are going to get called on it, so I'll just answer this really quickly: I just think Prince is saying two things with the "theocratic order" line: 1) that God is superior to and separate from Jesus; and 2) that women have to listen to men, who in turn have to listen to God. That's how I take what he's saying in the song, given the context of the whole album. Aside from that, I've always thought that traditionally, theocratic order was seen as having rule based on God's perceived law, like a Taliban-type rulership.

yeah I don't want to jack the thread either.

I think my original point was not to debate the details, but when someone pointed out that Last December would have been their favorite song of the last ten years if not for the JW lyrics, I wonder where the line is drawn. That song preaches "coming together as one" which seems pretty positive in any language.

I agree the theocratic order stuff gets a bit murky, but do people also have a problem with him singing "save me Jesus I've been a fool, how could I forget that you are the rule?"

I am not religious, but I simply don't care what he's preaching, honestly. I never have.

And the answer to 1+1+1=3: its a skill testing question for the Wise One's woman. If she can correctly answer, he will choose her as his one and only. But since he sees himself as superior to women, he decides to give her an easy question. Of course she ends up not knowing the answer and so the Wise One, who loves her so much, gives her the answer so that he may live in serenity with the one he loves even if she can't tie her shoes. In fact, now that I think of it, its about a love affair between the Wise One and the mentally challenged.

Checkmate!

That is quite biblical for some folks. I don't see a problem with it when it comes to Prince. He seems to be quite wise and capable of being in charge..I'd listen to him! innocent

Based on my analysis, I believe the government faked the plane crash and demolished the WTC North Tower with explosives.
The South Tower, in a simultaneous but unrelated plot was brought down by actual terrorists.

Don't understand the love for black sweat at all. For me, there's 8 better songs on 3121 than that track.

Way too hard to pick just 1 though. Last December, colonized mind, guitar, future soul song, 3121, call my name, fury, boom, dreamer, the list goes on. I can't pick just 1!
