Well, admittedly I don't really take in many live releases, because I just can't be bothered, only the odd one these days, if they perk my interest with something unique - but I'm listening to this, and then thinking back to 20Ten and wondering why they sound like two completely different artists with two completely different M.O's.

Prince -FOR A CHANGE- plays an astounding gig. It is shared FOR FREE right away, and still you are reticent about grabbing it because there might be sound quality issues.

If these sound issues hadn't been properly advertised maybe some of you would find the quality more than ok and wouldn't worry about only one channel being used.

And, of course, had this been a Sabotage release and had you paid good money for it you'd be jumping and thanking the heavens because such a gig could be recorded.

So I can only say 2 things:

1) If you have such reservations and your extra fine ears can't bear with a perfectly listenable recording don't grab it and/or don't listen to it.

2) Thanks FBG, once more!

Well, FBG obviously believes in full disclosure, which is rare in this day and age of the commercial bootleggers "acquiring" free-trade releases and calling it their own. And this being the full show is unbelievable, considering the length and how many other tapers only got parts of it because of various technical issues.

It takes balls of steel and hearts of gold for our clandestine friends to record these shows on their own dime and face possible ejection from the concert in an effort to give us a glimpse of history for free.

We all know Prince isn't going to sell us these concerts. That's up to him, but these recordings satisfy our love of the music regardless of the chain of delivery.

If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

from the time of his classic 87-88 Euorpean aftershows.

I cheered when I heard it just now woot!

I think I will download this one. At first glance, the setlist looks very reminiscent of that tired thing he's been doing the last 3 years or more. But on closer inspection, it's slightly more interesting.

Slightly.

You may be leaping to conclusions. Who here stated they were reticent to download due to sound issues?

I for one was already downloading before I asked about sound quality, I was merely itching to know how it might sound, with every intention of determining that for myself in due course.

And what I've listened to so far is really good quality, and there's no reason to suppose the rest of it is any different.

And, of course, had this been a Sabotage release, I wouldn't buy it, they're not getting any of my money.

So I can only say 2 things:

1) I had no reservations and my half-deaf ears are quite happy with this more than perfectly listenable recording

2) Thanks FBG, encore!

.flac are lossless audio - use any free audio software that supports .flac to convert back to .wav and burn. I believe there is a .flac frontend, or something like Winamp would do it too (iTunes doesn't support flac ill ).

"Future Soul Song" on piano was incredible....is there anyone still doubting that this song is a bonafide Prince classic up there with his best work after hearing this version?

It wasn't amazing or anything. A tiny little snippet. It was cool that the crowd knew it but he only sang a little bit of it and it seemed to be more in jest than anything.

Into the first disc... so nice. so nice. Wish it was soundboard because this would be a real contender against Small Club if it was in that quality. Actually it's just the first two tracks of Small Club that I think are incredible.

I STILL haven't heard it yet, but i think it may be past time Prince started releasing some live compilations, I think they would do wonders to promote his gigs, which may one day be the only monitizeable aspect of the music biz.

thanks ernest lol.

i'm not sure whether i'm for or against this type of release, but i'm wondering how i'd feel if my work was released without my consent, and use of my logo/symbol was blatantly apparent.

i know it's an old and very controversial topic, but for some reason it feels strange to me.

i downloaded 20ten from the net, figuring he'd been paid, and it was an official release, but i'm not moved to download or access this 'bootleg'.

is there a way i can understand this concept better so it doesnt feel so dodgy?

hmmm

^ to Robinhood: If you have been downloading "20TEN" it is unofficial, Prince won't get paid by that since no official download is available. Only way is buying the papers/ Magazines with a CD.

I am surprised you aren't familliar with bootlegs, they have exsisted since the 1960's afaik. I began collecting some Prince bootlegs when The Black album boots were circulating on cassette tape and vinyl LP's in the late 1980's.

Don't worry too much about this, I buy ALL official releases, and I guess most of us collecting bootlegs are doing this also. No need to feel bad about boots, no guilt.....wink

If you're going by those rules, then he already got paid to do this gig too. And if he chose to release it, then most of his diehard fans would buy it. He chooses not to.

so if you want the gig, you either get it for free from wonderful people like FBG or you wait a few months and end up buying the exact same thing from bootleggers like eye records or Sabotage.

If you downloaded 20ten though, as far as I can see, there's no difference in 'dodgy-ness' between downloading that or this wink

i dunno, the bootleg thing feels weird to me. like its not real.

at least with an online download of an official release i'm getting something Prince approved of in the creative sense, including the artwork.

whereas with bootlegs, the artwork isnt approved by him, and someone has maybe sonically 'mastered' the live gig without his approval either.

weird topic, not sure where to begin with it, but something doesnt feel right, although i fully understand why anyone would want to get their hands on as much prince-music as possible.

thanks for your input and thanks to thedance also heart
