Can we come up with another name for the O(+> album other than "Love Symbol"?

Ugh. "Love symbol" is so awkward sounding. Also, it's a bit of misnomer.
prince is now famously known as the Prince symbol.

I always thought the prince album should alternately be called 3 Chains of Gold. It makes sense in terms of theme, and even the video collection carried the title.

Anyone else have any ideas?

*insert AWFUL, typical, one liner, take the piss titles from the usual obsessed peeps, here*

I'd take 3 Chains O Gold but, i just simply call it what it is O(+>

or the album named after his symbol if i'm naming it to another.

Another name, I don't think so..... Why?

The album is official named "Love Symbol" isn't it??

Actually the prince symbol itself is named "Love Symbol #2" IIRC.

"Love Symbol #1" being this one:

I have just checked my local danish libraby, the title for the 1992 album is "Love Symbol".

I guess that is as official as you can be.

Credits, the pic is from Sleevographia.

If people think about it, the whole name of the album is ironic. prince was released in 1992, and a year later, Prince changed his name to that, right? BUT what's the first song on the album? "My Name Is Prince". He makes this big declaration about who he is, then totally cock blocks everyone by redefining that on the very basic level of his moniker. It's quite a funny moment, really. Put out a mysterious symbol, tell everyone your name is Prince, then change your name to the symbol that no one can pronounce.

The album, because of the name change a year later, should be called My Name Is Prince, as a reference.

In my mind, when I think of the album, I always say "symbol album" in my head.

It says "Love Symbol" on a European 45 rpm single.

Officially titled prince.....called Love Symbol, because of the font/typing being problematic. Do you think Prince calls the album Love Symbol?

I think calling it "Love Symbol" is a bit like calling him "The Artist". It's not really official, it's just what you say instead of pronouncing prince

As I stated above, the German pressing of the "Peach" single has "My Name Is Prince" as the b-side, and the single sleeve clearly says "taken from the Love Symbol album".

We discussed this before here on prince.org and some orgers even posted a picture of it.
I´m not saying that that´s the "official" title of the album but it surely doesn´t get more official than that because it says so on an official release.

So I am asking you...is that what you call it? It's kind of a shite name for and album, and, as I said, Love Symbol seems different than prince .

I don´t really feel the need to give it a name. And I agree with you, it is not really the best name for that album but hey, if it says so on an official WB single release, then who am I to come up with other names? I wonder what Prince called it back in the day because frankly, WB´s opinion doesn´t have the same weight as the artist´s opinion since Prince himself is the creator of it and maybe he´s not even aware of the fact that the "Peach" sleeve says "Love Symbol".

Three Chains of Gold makes more sense because of the video and the symbol consisting of three parts or chains and because there´s at least a track called Three Chains of Gold.
Prince himself used to say that every album should contain a title track.

Prince himself used to say that every album should contain a title track.

When did he say that? I do remember him telling Jesse Johnson that an album named Shockadelica should have a title track. That's probably to lay a bigger claim to the word or name. Prince did that by having songs called "Paisley Park", "My Name Is Prince", and "New Power Generation".

He has skipped the ideology at times in his career. Parade didn't have a real title track. And if it was the soundtrack to UTCM, why wasn't it called UTCM?

Batman didn't really have one either.

prince for me has a title track with "My Name Is Prince".

The Black Album didn't have a title track.

Technically, The Gold Experience doesn't have one, but rather one that is a nod to the title of the album. Same with The Beautiful Experience EP.

Same theory for NPG's Exodus having "The Exodus Has Begun", but not one called "Exodus".

Prince (1979) didn't.

MPLSound and LotusFlow3r didn't have title tracks.

Graffiti Bridge shouldn't have. lol

I would argue that "Gold" is a true title track, since at that time he was calling songs "Experiences".

Same with "Christopher Tracy's Parade". He's saying "Here's 'Parade', in the character of Christopher Tracy".

Not that any of it matters smile

On another note, I think if you look at O{+> as a rock-opera (as it was intended), "My Name is Prince" is just an opening scene, meant to introduce the main character. As the opera progresses, he evolves into Victor (and I guess, O{+>, but who knows, it barely makes sense as I'm typing it).

I would say this was just an easy way for people to name the album. I HEAVILY doubt Prince intended it to be called Love Symbol. I mean, think about it. If the album was called Love Symbol, then shouldnt we have called him Love Symbol during his "prince" days?
I even heard on DJ call it the Androgeny album.

I don't like "Love Symbol" for a title at all.
As has been said in previous posts I have always just called it The Symbol Album and always will.

I prefer the original title as is. It was a cool move.

However for sake of adding two cents...

Lets just call it the "Hi my name is Prince and I'm sexually confused, "

Or we can call it the "Excuse me Miss, can I borrow your eye liner?" lol

But all in all, It's an amazing album one my fave and I love the title as is and I just call it the symbol album

ok now wtf is wrong with u prince nuts ... its never been the 'LOVE' symbol . its not a 'love' symbol its a 'sex' symbol ... gawd princ3 fans are DENSE .. its the two sex signs combined how does that make it a love symbol .. that was the joke u know the one that dint work .. prince wanted everyone to call him the sex symbol but even the prince fans were too stupid to figure it out .. so we got tafka .. rolleyes

so the sex symbol record should becalled my name was prince ... there u go there is your title and as for 'the exodus has begun' shouldnt that be either the first song on the record or changed to 'the exodus just ended'

damn mr. strait edge (yeah right) must have been trippin on that halucination rain when sequencing that slab o space funk ..

yes prince did say every great album should have a great title track or something like that ... so lets call it pimp rag tootsie pop N a cane .. cuz thats what it is called anyway in p round about way in fact its funny how much he emphasized his name on that record then dumped it.
