I always thought the album should alternately be called 3 Chains of Gold. It makes sense in terms of theme, and even the video collection carried the title.

2 Whom It May Concern refers to the album with a little drum rift rather than a spoken title...anyway to vocalise that?
As the cover is a still from the '7' video then maybe 'All 7' or '1 Day All 7 Will Die'or even '1 Day' (partly because there are no notable pauses between tracks) still doesn't quite sum up the album though... This is what it's like in the dream factory... | |

For quite a while now I´ve thought of this album as 3 CHAINS OF GOLD. In the video, there are 3 different chains which together make up the symbol...
"My Name is Prince"... sorry, not at all. This album was precisely the story/metaphor of the shedding of his name. That´s why it is the first track, the starting point of the journey of his "mutation" into , which is the end point.
Obviously the symbol is not supposed to be pronounced, as Prince himself said many times... so "3 Chains of Gold" wouldnt´be his name... but as far as the album goes, I find it appropriate. [Edited 4/11/10 6:28am] | |

Anyone else have any ideas? If people think about it, the whole name of the album is ironic. was released in 1992, and a year later, Prince changed his name to that, right? BUT what's the first song on the album? "My Name Is Prince". He makes this big declaration about who he is, then totally cock blocks everyone by redefining that on the very basic level of his moniker. It's quite a funny moment, really. Put out a mysterious symbol, tell everyone your name is Prince, then change your name to the symbol that no one can pronounce.
The album, because of the name change a year later, should be called My Name Is Prince, as a reference. In my mind, when I think of the album, I always say "symbol album" in my head. ... as do I Peace ... & Stay Funky ...
