TrevorAyer said: ok now wtf is wrong with u prince nuts ... its never been the 'LOVE' symbol . its not a 'love' symbol its a 'sex' symbol ... gawd princ3 fans are DENSE .. its the two sex signs combined how does that make it a love symbol .. that was the joke u know the one that dint work .. prince wanted everyone to call him the sex symbol but even the prince fans were too stupid to figure it out .. so we got tafka ..
so the sex symbol record should becalled my name was prince ... there u go there is your title and as for 'the exodus has begun' shouldnt that be either the first song on the record or changed to 'the exodus just ended' damn mr. strait edge (yeah right) must have been trippin on that halucination rain when sequencing that slab o space funk .. yes prince did say every great album should have a great title track or something like that ... so lets call it pimp rag tootsie pop N a cane .. cuz thats what it is called anyway in p round about way in fact its funny how much he emphasized his name on that record then dumped it. Well...actually...Prince made it VERY WELL known that the symbol had NO pronunciation. And it was mostly DJ's that started the whole "love symbol" name. So, since DJs are suppose to know their stuff, it just kinda caught on. Its been called Love Sign, Love Symbol, Androgeny, and I even heard one DJ say that you can decipher the symbol to say "Victor".

On My ipod it's called 'Symbol', simple and to the point and not as embarrassing/sad as Love Symbol.

I've never called it "Love Symbol"... if it has to be given a title, I'd call it
"the symbol album" or just "symbol". In much the same way as "the black album" is titled, or Led Zeppelin's "four symbols". Though I often used to call it "shhhhhding" too verbally, back in the day! Neither "androgenous", "androgeny" or "love symbol" were ever used in any official capacity (they were just terms coined by reviewers and fans etc.). I do remember that all the official Warner Bros.internal and trade communications at the time listed it as just "Prince & the NPG - Symbol". So "Symbol" or "The Symbol Album" are as close to official titles as it gets. WB reps always referred to it verbally as "the symbol album", though it was always just written down as "symbol". But I agree that if it had to be given an actual song title type name, then the only logical choice is "3 Chains O' Gold" as that was the video- album title, as well as the storyline name for the video and album-based first half of the Act I shows. . KoolEaze said: I don´t really feel the need to give it a name. And I agree with you, it is not really the best name for that album but hey, if it says so on an official WB single release, then who am I to come up with other names? I wonder what Prince called it back in the day because frankly, WB´s opinion doesn´t have the same weight as the artist´s opinion since Prince himself is the creator of it and maybe he´s not even aware of the fact that the "Peach" sleeve says "Love Symbol".
Three Chains of Gold makes more sense because of the video and the symbol consisting of three parts or chains and because there´s at least a track called Three Chains of Gold. Prince himself used to say that every album should contain a title track. Then it should be "My Name is Prince" since the symbol was his name for a while? I always just called it "the symbol album".

Since it is an actual symbol and has that horn through it which relates to music, continue to call it symbol but change the spelling to fit in with being musical which would be "Cymbol". Andy is a four letter word.

There is a radio station in Australia called Triple J, and they had the same problem giving the album...and his eventual name, a title back when it came out, so they ran a national competition to give the symbol a pronunciation...and the eventual winner became "Dave" So...you could call this the "Dave" album.... Back in the day we called it 'Zapf boink', inspired by the video that `introduced` the album before the live shows.
Did you ever reverse that sound? And play with the speed? Pills and thrills and daffodils will kill... If you don't believe me or don't get it, I don't have time to try to convince you, sorry.

I think we both talked about this before, IIRC. That's just a mistake by someone at WB in Europe. That title was just used as a placeholder by the person inputting the track credits, with the intention being that it would be replaced by the time that the artwork went to print. A mistake was made and this placeholder was never replaced by the actual symbol as intended.

Although I can't remember the last time I referred to it in conversation, this is what myself and fellow Prince fans that I knew called it at the time. Just somewhere in the middle,
