Gosh, with 95% of people disliking this song so quickly, I kinda feel bad for the man.

I still don't think it's really all that "terrible" or "embarrassing." Yeah, it's like an anthem, but now I think that's what he intended it to be. I'm starting to imagine the deep male voices of the team singing this, and it kind of works as a quick uplifting chant before a game. shrug

Water... he should have done it like this!!

http://www.youtube.com/wa...R2nmtg0whE

THIS is a fight song!!
(If the link doesn't work, please copy and paste.)

I love Prince... but this is embarrassing!!!

That's a great example. nod With a quick upgrade in the arrangement/tempo, his song could be just like that one, and be an actual fight-song.

But really, this is all that reporter's fault, lol. If she hadn't been misleading with her description of the song, and called it an anthem instead, it would not be disliked so much. lol

The Eagles song is not better than this prince song, but it shows where Prince is coming from at least.

And they'll need an edited snippet of Prince's song for it to be of practical use, a 30 second version like the Eagles one.

Reminds me of something they might sing after a Pokemon duel!?

I have to say it, if he'd put in on an album, it would probably have not drawn so much criticism. If you listen to it without any thought for the football(?) team(? - sorry, being British, I have no idea what this team does) it's not that bad.

I quite like it, like sugar on cornflakes. boxed

Just like he didn't give a shit when websites protested -- you remember, when he recorded that overrated crap "p-funk"?

Oh, and have you listened to his latest album? What do you think "No More Candy 4 U" is about?

a rock or pop song..you idiots.

I don't give a damn about what this is supposed to be. So perhaps Prince has recorded something that is just as shit as a whole genre of shit music -- why the fuck is he wasting time on this in the first place? How come he avoided doing this crap for decades and yet now feels the need to make his contribution?

It's SHIT. Just like all the other songs in this genre.

(Just like Emancipation was a bunch of shit, because so much of it is sub-par R Kelly-like dirge -- and R Kelly is shit.)

Funny how the people who profess to like it are also quick to point out that it could be better by adding a guitar solo. Or different production. Or different instruments. Or maybe this or maybe that.

This is one of those Prince songs that is simply too usual for the unwashed masses to comprehend. It has the flawless Prince production sheen and texture with those majestic layers that he can stun us with sometimes. It is actually a great song in the tradition of the fight or march song.

I love Prince for having the genius and courage to make something like this.

I HEARD A PIECE OF THE SONG ON 98.7 KISS FM IN NEW YORK, THEY DOGGED THE SONG AND SAID IT WAS HORRIBLE.I DO NOT WANT TO REALLY JUDGE THE SONG CUZ THEY ONLY PLAYED A PIECE BUT IF THE WHOLE SONG IS LIKE WHAT I HEARD THAN THE SONG IS AWFUL AND IT IS NOT A MOVIVATING SONG FOR THE VIKINGS.

Amazing isn't it? That these same stations won't play new/current songs from his last cds released (3121 and Lotusflow3r), but will play his classics instead, Yet look how quickly they wasted no time playing the snippet to this new song for the Vikings just to make fun of it. Would be nice if they jumped that quick to play his recently, released cds.Interesting.

Uh... no. They don't play the new music because it's simply not good. They do play train wrecks like this.

i LOVE it <3 .
after reading this thread i was expecting it to be hideous..people here are always so negative.

prince's versatility is one of his most brilliant talents, you people say it all the time but then constantly backtrack on yourselves.. so many people seem to be harking after who he was x number of years ago.. if he stayed 80's prince his career would have died long ago as although his music would still have appealed, he wouldn't be current, and prince is a current artist, he marches to his own beat but still periodically puts out albums and songs, with a bit of oldschool and a lot of newschool prince and old and new influences.
it's natural to evolve and grow, the man supports his home team, writes them a song, they love it, it is a nice gesture and an unusual thing to do and if everyone was to just take it on face value instead of measuring it up in some inbuilt 'princeometer' in their head, then maybe everyone would be a bit happier, i am a prince fan because i love his back catalogue and i love the surprise of what he is going to release next, he is the most eclectic artist and that's how it should be. stop expecting him to release your own personal idea of what you want his music to be..it's his music, if you don't like what you're hearing then why do you still come here? why don't you turn your negativity in to something productive? there is enough negativity happening in the world today without adding to it. i come here to keep up to date on what is happening with prince, it is no wonder he is shying away from the fans again if all he gets everytime he releases a new song is critism. it's about time a lot of you started to appreciate him, because (without sparking up the mj vs prince discussions) one day he too will be gone so it's about time people began to appreciate him a little more. if you don't love prince you wouldn't be here, but if you don't start showing him the love then i wouldn't be surprised if he did just retreat back in to himself entirely..then everyone would be moaning for new songs, or for him to opent he vault..but why should he if all he gets is critism? I think it's actually quite sad how the number one prince site on the internet gets quoted in a report on his new song as saying it's rubbish.. it's not 1984 anymore...get over it.

this isn't a ''fam'' moment, i don't worship prince, i don't write in princebonics, i don't love everything he puts out but i always at least like it. the vikings are very lucky men.

Hey Bart, I actually agree with you here. They won't play the good material on Lotus Flower, but they're quick to rip him for this.

And maybe that's what Prince was thinking when he wrote this. Who knows...

What don't you get???

I'm usually never negative towards peoples' opinions... but here's Prince's problem.

Just like as was said in Purple Rain... "Your music makes sense to no one... but yourself".

Prince doesn't get it! If this is "a fight song", Prince is out there doing his own "hymn" thing... and not making a "FIGHT SONG".

Someone on here blamed the announcer for calling it a "fight song"... when maybe it should have been called a "hymn". Or when maybe it should have just been kept in the vault.

I'm okay with Prince marching to his own drummer... but he totally missed it on this one.

It's also like the movie Graffiti Bridge, that nobody understood except for Prince, and us hardcore fans who were willing to take the time to understand his mind.

That's fine. I get it.

But with this song... if he meant it to be a fight song... Prince is out of touch.

He's always needed someone to tell him "no". I don't know that he's ever had that. A "no" with this song is what he needed to hear.

I think most of us are disappointed immensely because we're fans, and we have to defend him. But sometimes, Prince needs to do his homework, grasp the concept, and produce valid material for the masses... not for himself.

I'm sorry but... this should have sounded like a FOOTBALL FIGHT SONG... not a picnic stroll in Paisley Park!
