Prince knows what to say publicly about the death of a legend.

I think Prince like MJ but he probably din't like most of his music.

I think i'm gonna win the lottery on Friday..... lol the fact i'm not buying a ticket changes things ...no.... lol

Note: He' played 3 MJ songs at his gig's in Paris 2009.... rolleyes

This is why i love Prince.org ....I'm always learning new things here ..... lol

What is it with you? As I stated to you earlier-you are on this smug roll of passively attacking people for saying I think or I feel.. when your first input into this thread was totally based on a subjective take on something prince said whilst you seemed to think it was some kind of fact, so what is so different about you. Not only is it bloody rude to patronise you seem to be one of the least qualified to do it! If you want to be so self righteous at least back it up with some (justified) superiority.

Fact: He spoke about MJ passing
Fact: He played MJ songs at his gig's in Paris 2009

This is not subjective, but fact, this is qualified by the interview and the concerts.

Justified by the fact that however "smug" the information is correct.

The superioriity comes from pointing out your first two words "I think" which was highlighted in Bold, as you pointed out with out any facts that Prince did not like MJ music.

lol

Rude, yes you are I won't reply to your next post, please do not take this as being rude, as i have informed you ahead of time ... lol

God-u dont get it. Yes he spoke of MJ passing=Fact, yes he did his songs=fact. But your original post Highlighted respect for MJ which is NOT FACT. I never once said Prince disliked MJ=FACT. All I said was that his answers were so flat others could read it as him trying to not cause offence, which could lead to a suspicion that he might think something negative, a lot of people don't mind gushing if they really like something. Arrogance is rude and you keep constantly or indirectly correcting people because of subjectivity=FACT. And I reiterate that ypur take on Prince's comments were as subjective as anyone else's=FACT

I agree with you Jethro-I have never compared MJ and Prince and never understood why they are in the same sentence but Londonstyle are you just a wind up merchant, you had your wonderful insights and then throw it back at others that we don't want to see facts. and does your face look like the laughing face coz smug is a very slappable quality.

The only reason MJ and Prince were compared is because they were both black and crossed over in the 80s as the best artists of the MTV Generation. They werew the first real black artists that MTV did not discriminate against. Prince would have been called a rock artist in the 80s if he was white - Littel Rewed Corvette, Lets GO Crazy, Purple Rain - all those songs that put him over were rock songs. But he was black so he was in the soul/R&B bag with MJ. I can remember going to record dtores back then and they would actually have a section marked black music (this is before they replaced it with what they thought was the more politically correct "urban" tag) and you knew that was where Prince would be even though Madonna and George Michael were doing "black" music but where catagorized in the Rock/Pop (code for "white") section.

Race is also the reason people wanted to compare Prince's guitar laying to Hendrix. He even said that in the MTV interview he did back in 1985.

Funkenberry has quoted part of my translation :
http://www.drfunkenberry....ons-death/
In a french interview, Prince talked about Michael Jackson and was asked about his death and how he felt about it.

The english translation was posted on Prince.org, a Prince fan web site and here is a few quotes;

"When I played in London in 2007, the O ² Arena, I asked the producers what had been the record number of shows played consecutively in their venue. They said six. I said that I wanted to do twenty-one. During two weeks they refused me, nobody had ever played for so long. All concerts were nevertheless sold out. Since then, Michael Jackson showed me that I should go farther"

When asked about performing the Jacksons "Shake Your Body Down To The Ground", Prince added;

"My singer Elisa has the same timbre as Michael when he was young. And a good song is a good song"

Lastly, the question that many people were wanting to know; How did Prince feel about the death of Michael Jackson?

(Prince, obviously reluctant, does not want to dwell on the subject.) "It is always sad to lose someone you loved"

Well, there you have it. What do you think of Prince’s comment(s) regarding Michael Jackson?-Dr.FB

Why do people demand a statement from Prince? P and Mike weren't lovers! They weren't close in any form, shape or way. Fans are acting as if it was P's obligation to comment on the death of MJ as if they were boyfriends, lovers, sex partners...

I can't agree here. They are both legends in their own right and became famous at similar times. Two different styles yet both legends. And after all, they're in the same industry. It's only respectful that he did so.

Respectful - yes
Was it disrespectful that he didn't before? - no
Your reasons stated above does not mean he was obligated to either.
Obligation - "constraining power of a law, duty, contract."
I swear the words "HATER" is wayyy over-rated...smh

No body said here that Prince was obligated to do so. Fact is he has now done so. And if the tables were turned and Prince had died and Michael Jackson was alive, I am certain Michael would have said something. Not because he was obligated, but because it's the "right" thing to do.

Exactly! There were very few moments when those 2 were even in the same room! Prince was well aware of the "fan created" rivalry. That may be one reason he avoided him and the subject of him, but unfortunately it fueled the fire. Watch the press conference where he was asked a funny question about MJ back in 2000. He gave a humorous response and then He stated "Ive never spoke publicly about Michael"... He actually came across as someone who was defending Michael. He even went on to say, "We should just let him come home".
As far as the competition on the O2 arena subject.. That is just absurd. Not that there was a competition, but Prince did sell out 21 nights in record time FIRST. I dont think there was any doubt that MJ could sell out more shows, not even in Prince's mind.
Prince's response to MJ's death was perfectly fine. MJ wasnt a relative, wasnt his best friend, wasnt his lover, he wasnt even an idol. They didnt hang out, they never performed together, never recorded a song together. They were just in the same business, and just so happened to be compared to one another most of their careers.

In fact let's just put our own SPIN on everything he says..... lol

Let's just stick to the facts...Please ...which are answer to direct questions..

rolleyes

Exscuse me who are you? I'm not putting any spin on what Prince is saying so please dont tell me to stick to facts. I scrutinised what Prince was saying simply because YOU read into it. My original point was that Prince could not give more neutral answers if he tried and was a paid politician He answers maybe RESPECTFUL but no way can you read RESPECT into his comments. God I feel so irritated by your response and I usually ignore this type of nonsense

Jeez! lol
It seems MJ fans want nothing less than a kiss of MJ's ring.

It was more than respectful, just not fawning

Surprised by what Prince said or how I worded it? In case it's the latter. Let me rephrase.

What I meant was, I find the fact that Prince actually mentions Michael's 50 concerts for his big comeback as being something Prince could actually learn from is a sign of respect to me.

Not your response, but Prince. Sorry my post wasn't clear. Prince surprised me by speaking about MJ (and specifically saying his full name) without being provoked by a question first. That's never happened before.

Sometimes it's simply easier to answer the question before it's asked of you and to cut it off and move on to a more substantial topic. Addressing the topic before being asked seemed to be Prince's way of saying here's my one and only statement and let's move on. Since Michael died planning a 50 show run at the O2 and Prince had sucessfully completed a 21 night run there, the comparisons will live on for quite some time in the media and the fans eyes. Prince has closed that book with his answer.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!
