I think he's saying "fuck."

I think Sheila's saying "funk." I don't think Sheila ever swore on any record (IIRC). If she did here, that would be the only time, I believe.

And I think Sheila sounds great on the record. biggrin

I think Sheila had a few curse words on Romance 1600 and possibly Sheila E

She uses Niggas on Koo Koo:Sheila E.

I've never heard anyone say they didn't like Sheila on that song
She was just right for it

He knows this is the jam
He played some of it earlier this year at the Lotus Flower preview at this house

He should just go ahead and say We can love until the dawn

She uses "niggas" on Hon E Man and says "ass" on Yellow on Romance 1600, but I just meant swear words, like "fuck" and "shit" and the like. Actually, I take that back now that I think about it; she says, "I'm not bullshittin'" on the extended version of Hollyrock. Anyway, I wasn't trying to imply that Sheila was clean or classy in any way in the '80s; just that I thought she was trying to pull it off as saying "funk."

All that aside, whenever I sing along to the song, I clearly and loudly say "fuck." biggrin

R.I.P Michael! Sad, the only time he was in peace, was when he wasn't alive.

Hey if Mariah Carey can say fuck on a song then Sheila E. damn well better be able to say it!
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

This song does not get enough credit for it's progressive gender politics. The idea of creating a society devoid of marriage and the ridding of puritanical views regarding sexuality is a revolutionary philosophy. The concept of sex for procreation without pleasure is denounced. It's a celebration of sexuality without the barriers our society places on women and relationships. The whole Madonna/virgin/whore paradigm is explored with P on the side of the whore.

Can you imagine Prince writing this song today?

Oh EXACTLY... Prince wouldn't write this today and it's tragic. This song is absolutely liberatory. I read something where Shelia E said she wasn't embarrassed by this song when it came out, but she is now. I think that's really sad.

All hail old school Prince!
