Suggestion: can we have a Prince.org iPhone app?

Yes that's what we want. Formatted website with sign in for Prince . Org. You need a developer...

It's not a full blown app, but check this out:

I added the required icon to the site, if you are in mobile safari on the iphone/touch, and then click the '+', and then specify 'add to the home screen' or whatever it's called, it will use the nice "P" logo with a purple background. It looks pretty kewl. Thanks for asking about this!

Yes Please!!!

It could have a section for streaming concerts. Videos and Photo Gallery also.

My bad...what am i thinking, I forgot who we are dealing with.

WTF happened to Prince's vision in the 90's? He was once ahead of the curve with bringing his music online and using the web to connect with fans. Now, you can't even get a large portion of his discography at online retail.

Why spend time on such a limited platform?
Isn't html meant to render anywhere, anyway?

Please wait until we have a real platform out there that works, has battery life and a broader adoption, perhaps a more open architecture.

Very nice! Just added it to my iPhone. I agree with what others have said...Prince used to lead the pack on technology and the Internet and now he just blows! So go ahead with an app and show him how it's supposed to be done!

Well, what would be some functionality that people would be interested in? Let's get some suggestions.

Check out the Facebook app. It has notification tab, chat, etc... It would be good if it were all formatted to be easy to use with your thumb maybe we could customize it for what we want to see...

That's more than likely a limitation of the app you are using.

Links do have www. which should auto link in most clients. Since twitter limits the number of characters anyway, 7 more could be a dealbreaker in some tweets.

Specifically, if you visit twitter itself, it knows to auto-link anything that starts with "www.". However, random twitter clients may not understand/autolink that. What client were you using?

We can replace the "www." with "http://" to get the same effect, but that's still 3 characters longer, and when Twitter limits you to 140 to start with...

i'm using tweeterrific, and most of tweeters use http:// instead www. to make everyone able to acess 2 the links...

Thank u 4 caring!

I have an iphone and had created my own little app logo from just hitting the + sign on a pic on the site. Today, the "P" just automatically is on there now, instead of the little picture. It's cool. I just hope "you know who" doesnt have a problem with it.

With all respect, but:
The whole concept is to use open standards so that we don't NEED an app for every whatever site.
So what is the deal with an `app for site XYZ`?

This aside from the facebook, myspace, twitter and other hoopla.

Oh but Prince.org is not just any whatever website, its more than that!

I think its the community features of the site, like these boards and chat and news feeds, up to the minute fan created sharing of thoughts and experiences that means it would make a great app. It has a continuous feed of content like FB and Twitter. Thats why I think a well designed app for iPhone makes perfect sense for the org. It would be much more user friendly and tailored for a mobile device. Check out the official FB app and compare it to logging into FB from your phone browser, a very differnet experience. I think its a no brainer..

I know people who know people who could make it happen but it would cost... Is there a budget for this? Can an org person perhaps set up a fund and we could raise some money for it... Org note me if you want help or suggestions...

So you mean a chatbox instead of slightly more careful written content?
I know what I prefer.
