I think it's unneccessary. It's up to kids' parents to monitor them, not us.

Besides, I was on here before I was of age, and I haven't been irreparably damaged.

I agree, and was actually about to start a similar thread. I just think folks should have to vouch for being an adult before joining. If it becomes apparent they've lied, they should be banned.

Especially for the ones who can't write. Not to sound elitist or snobbish, but it's really obvious some of these younger Orgers would be better off reading some books or being tutored in grammar and writing -- especially if they intend on going on to college or getting a job. disbelief

I'd agree with you if it wasn't for the fact that many of these Orgers who cannot type are grown adults whose first language is English.

I'm not disagreeing with you. But, children have the time to improve and build their skills. Adults' limitations are typically more set in stone. In the case of many adults, some real unlearning would need to take place to improve.

I don't think The Org is the place for that. If we limit people because they're young and can't write, why should we allow people who are adults that can't write? It's illogical.

It *is* illogical, and I never suggested that. lol I never said the Org was for any of what you suggest. And, let's not confuse the issue of communicating skills with appropriateness; with me, the latter far outweighs the former as a reason to ban underage users from the Org.

First and foremost, I think we should limit juvenile access to the Org because of its subject matter. I think it's inappropriate for young people to joke with adults about adult matter as often occurs on this site.

I've never said people who can't write shouldn't be allowed to participate at the Org, either. I'm saying it pains me to see young people who obviously cannot write well at all using the Internet to goof off when they so clearly need to use it to improve their grammar, writing and communication skills (in addition to offline resources).

Exactly. The parent(s) are responsible, although some are not and don't give a rats ass what their kid(s) do, sad as it is.

They should use parental control on their puter. This is not org.daycare lol

If it is the parents' job to monitor them and this is an adult site, why do we have to watch what we say?

IMO I don't think we should have to. Beyond the obvious restrictions on flaming and bigotry, I see no reason any of us should have to censor ourselves because wee ones may be about. It's not our job to monitor what people who are possibly minors might be accessing online.

Most of us don't think about kids reading our stuff when we post. Like all that crazy stuff people post about strippers and their own personal sex life, which can be very funny but not for kids.

You can check out the forums without being a member which means that any kid can check out the forums at the local library while their sitter thinks they are looking up info for school on the internet.

It's possible for someone to post a link to a gross porn star picture as a joke that maybe would not be accesible (spelling?) from the computer they are using had it not been on a link. Yikes!!

The whole thing.

It's not our job (or the media's or the government's) to supervise what minors do and don't access. It's the parents job to keep a check on their kid's doings and decide what is and isn't appropriate for them. Curtailing our speech on the off chance a minor may possibly access it is illogical and amounts to censorship for the sake of it.

Many regular posters here started on the Org as underaged, myself included. I don't consider myself irreparably harmed by any of the content, and I don't see much likelihood in any damage being done to most other young people who might join or lurk here, either.

I think saying "it's a minor's parent/guardian's job to monitor their online activity" is an ideal no one is going to argue with. That said, that standard could be applied to a lot.

How would you feel if an Orger you might have been flirtatious with turned out to be underage? Hasn't happened to me, but I get creeped out just to find out an Orger I've said something to isn't an adult.

I don't make a habit of engaging in any serious flirting with people online, so I can't tell you. lol

But I doubt I'd care much, if I did. I'd just stop if I found out the other person was a youngin'. shrug

I don't agree with the OP. It's all about respect, no matter how old you are. If you aren't being respectful to others, then you suffer the consequences of your actions. Besides, most of the trouble makers on this site are the so-called Adults on this site.

Where grammar is concerned, the mods need to crack down on people who continually make no sense in their post, young and old.

As for adult subject matter, I think it's too late to try and regulate something like that. Besides, I've seen plenty of people in here discuss sex with folks who I found out were underage and I saw no one in here complain about it back then. That was the time to have said something.

OK I am going to be truthful. I do not own a computer and am nearly computer illiterate and that is probably why I just joined this sight this year.

I go places that make computers available to the public and use them there.

I can NOT find a way to spell check while I am also on the Prince.org site. Like I say it has taken me a long time to even try the computer and this site is my way of getting comfortable with it.

Personally I have only an associates degree in liberal arts which I received in 1985. If we are going to stop letting people post due to lack of good grammar and punctuation etc what are we saying here? Sorry high school drop outs but only those who put some effort into their studies and then later went on to college can post here!!!! I mean this is Prince.org not a medical study report that I'm writing in.

Also I have seen spell check before on computers but not grammar check. Yes there are people whose writing style can be dizzying to read but since they continuously use the same user name can't you skip over them easily, I know I can.
