I honestly don't get how people feel personally slighted by Prince. My life has not been impacted even slightly by anything Prince has done other than not release a proper DVD or live album.

And it's not like I'm not paying attention.

But to answer the question, he lost more fans with Around the World than anything.

I don't feel slighted by his change but I do feel like someone who looks back and thinks I can't believe I used to to date that guy razz

lol Fair enough. I think the people who feel they've been abused by Prince are just too damn involved. As if we can't say whatever we want to here.

I'm actually entertained by it all lol

It's like looking back at an old lover who everybody still thinks is unique or complex or enlightened and thinking "Bitch please, he's just talking shit out his ass." lol

The only relationship Prince has with his fans is a financial one. He just dresses it up well.

So based on reading these posts it sounds like most people feel that there was a definite beginning to the "prince negativity" ---

So do you think if this forum/fansite existed in the 80s, the things which we are communally referring to as 'hate' would not be on here?

Yes, I think they would. Prince would simply have sued his fans earlier. In fact, I would probalby have been worse, because he would have got Warners to sue rather than the incompetent Londell.

ALSO... he has set the bar so high, with his prolific and diverse output, it eventually became inevitable that his fan base would split up, with equally diverse opinions and tastes.

Yeah... There is no other artist in any form that gets as much criticism from their "supporters" as Prince.

Perhaps Prince was onto something when he started referring 2 some fans as "friends". But they seem far 2 few these days.

Another consideration is this: How much of Prince's fanbase do websites like the org actually consist of?

I really feel that this is a hardcore/niche place here. Don't get me wrong this is THE Prince fan site on the net, but Prince is a global superstar. What percentage of his fans across the world frequent this place?

I ask this question, because one could get a skewed view on his fans if just looking at prince.org or any fan website for that matter....

And THAT'S it!

Let's do an estimation here: the threads about the two new Prince albums scored ca. 1800 replys overall. However, some people posted several times on them, many posted on both threads etc. So, without going all through it again, I would estimate the number of people posting on there to be maybe 500. On the other hand, the albums sold 170,000 units or so during the first week, plus online purchases. Even if we only assume 100,000 out of those 170,000 people to be part of a hardcore fan base, it still implies that the org represents less than 1 % of Prince's fan base. In other words: we don't have a right to speak for all Prince fans on this site - this community, as great as it is, is a footnote in the overall reception of Prince's work!

I think it was between the internet and his religious conversion in the 90's. Prince wants his rights to privacy both as an artist and a private citiizen as far as the internet goes. he also wants people to just forget about the life he use to lead and I don't think that's probable as far as the internet goes. Personally I still love and respect the man he has been and who he is today, and I've always thought he has the right to say NO to anything that has to do with his life and his music.

I've been saying for years, the bullshit going on was deliberate to specifically alienate Prince from his fans and make us forget about him.

Apparently, I was only half right...it's just his past we're supposed to forget about. The best part of his entire career...yeah that! We're supposed to forget it? Is that really something that PRINCE wants? hmmm

xactly how r we 4getting his past? hell we're being bombarded by his past everytime he does a show!!
man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
