So UNTRUe and listen to SOMEWHERE HERE ON EARTH.....This new album is UPBEAT and not full of Ballads. Bria's album has the SLOW-JAMS. Prince has the DANCE and UPBEAT TUNES.

I can't even get past the first minute of that non inspiring track.

No i'm not.. It's uninspiring to me. I realize many might enjoy this.. but it's not a prince track to me.. it's a slow mess that won't get to the point.

One thing that I don't think anyone has addressed here is that just because you may not feel a ballad of his for however long it's been, it does NOT mean that the song was or is not emotionally felt. That's what's so cool about music as a whole. While one may think Prince was being a fraud on a song like "Somewhere Here on Earth, another might be driven to tears by that same song.

Plus, we don't know Prince and we don't know what's going on in his life for him to write the songs he writes. For all we know, he might have been more of a phony doing "The Beautiful Ones" in 1984 than he was doing "Call My Name" in 2004, we don't know and truth be told, that's not a bad thing not to know either. If you feel the songs, then wonderful, if not, then it's another song that won't get any play on your CD or MP3 player. Simple as that. biggrin

these are some AWESOME, heartfelt ballads. i think 3121, musicology, and this new set are sorely lacking that emotion. therein lies the problem (imo) with most of this decade's work: lack of feeling, ballad or otherwise is the big problem

Prince's last GREAT, not good, but GREAT ballad is probably "Shhh!" from The Gold Experience. He had a couple of really good ones on Emancipation like "The Love We Make" or "Saviour", but they weren't on par with his ballds of the past. I think the one time he hiccuped on a good ballad was "Insatiable". It was missing something that "Do Me Baby", "International Lover", "Scandalous", etc etc had. He made up for it with "Shhh!" and "I Hate U".

He's had really good ones since, don't get me wrong. His emotions have changed, his life has changed, and that is constantly reflected in his music, especially in the past 10 to 12 years.

The version from the Chicago show on the One Nite Alone tour is 1,000 times better than the album version. He just NAILED it live.

I've enjoyed some of Prince's ballads in recent years, but "The Love We Make" is the last one that I consider to be super-strong. "The One", "The Dance", and "Somewhere Here On Earth" have been really good offerings in the last decade.

Whereas "Condition of the Heart" ISN'T a sweet song. wink

Prince's last solid slow song was "last december"... it was a heartfelt song with emotion to it.. overall his last solid group of ballads were on "emancipation."the love we make,"soul santuary, "the holy river" and so on... I feel the ballads on MPLSOUND brings that work down a beg.It really is a telling sign because i used to look forward to his slower numbers. Prince's ballads started losing steam around 1989... but he still had respectable ones up until 2001... "better with time' is boring, "ur gonna c me" is nice but doesn't hit your gut like "empty room or "she gave her angels".. what do ya'll think?

nah.....i love the slow tempo songs like 4Ever (it's great!) and Here on the new album..i can feel them.... from 3121 and Planet Earth there were decent but not real great ballads though, u were right there...but from Musicology Call my Name is one of his best ballads...and then we have in the TRC/ONA era songs like u're gonna c me and she loves me 4 me...so no..

I agree to an extent. For me, the last good ballad is "Call My Name" from Musicology. Other than that, his more recent ballads are watered down.

i guess my opinion is that ur gonna c me, she loves me for me, 4ever, here, and call my name dont hit me as heartfelt. they sound like ballads for the sake of ballads. and 4ever, here, and she loves me for me are just all around awful tracks, imo.
