I think all 3 are 2 different to be rated.

In 2009 Madonna & Prince are still big, and Michael (london show sold out in minutes) will prove he is still Michael

Props 2 all 3

how did MJ and Madonna work their way into this forum

why dont we just include Debarge too?

in my opinion Prince was the most real artist and Madonna and MJ had too much help with their music (not to mention the fact that they did not play instruments) and ended up being dance artists - not real artists

Record Breaking Sales, Fandom, Overall Stardom= Micheal

Social, Sexual and Cultural Impact for Women, Video mastery = Madonna

Prodigous Output, Critical Acclaim, The Genuis Tag, Big Screen Success= Prince

Controversy= All three

I'll say it's a wash considering all three can also state cases in catagories given to the other two. For example Prince was a sex God back then and Madonna challenged Micheal in Sales.

MJ is highly over-rated. Off The Wall is great, Thriller is great, Bad has aged terribly, and Dangerous has a couple of decent tracks. Everything else is trash'n'rehash.

Not sure what all the Madonna hate is about on here. I liked her stuff upto Erotica and the rest, not so much.

I couldn't disagree more. With the exception of Invincible (which was still a pretty decent album), MJ's work has been brilliant. Definitely not overrated.

I think Prince and Michael Jackson are on even footing. Madonna is the one who is a bit overrated.

Michael Jackson Prince & Madonna

are 3 of the biggest performance even in 2009
I think these 3 are used and they are talked about in magazines and articles, being grouped the same

the came to superstardom in the 80's
the last era that I believe anyone could reach the popularity that they have. By the early 90's anyone could just about get a record deal, so the quality of entertainers dropped.

These 3 entertainers also have a respect for one another. They are from the same generation and age all turned 50 the same year(?)

I don't think it's fair to compare them, because they fit into different slots.

I have to give Michael props because he was out there the longest (I guess we can still count the post Dangerous years) He's been doing this since he was a child.

Michael Jackson Prince & Madonna are 3 people who hit a level or superstardom no one else after the Beatles did.

Madonna & Prince were much more hands on in their image and stage/show presentations. Personally I think Madonna tops Michael in her concerts. She puts on one of the best shows I've ever seen.

And I don't even have to go far into Prince because I'm a purple soldier.

i don't think any of them would get a record deal now, or at least be able to release music in the same way as they did in the 1980s. although plenty of other things have changed as well since that time.

Prince has released at least 8 great albums in the 1980s - MJ has only released 2 albums in the same decade, therefor MJ can only be at spot #2 imo...

1. Prince
2. Michael Jackson
(3. Madonna)

Madonna is completely overrated, she doesn't even deserve to be mentioned along with the 2 other geniuses.... wink

1st let me state that the amount of hate for madonna on the board is sickening.in the 80s the big 3 were micheal madonna and prince.madonna is just as important as mj and prince.unlike the current pop females madonna had purpose.she actualy thought about the music she was making.she was good.no she wasnt the best singer..and she knew it.but she had statements she felt she had to make.that makes her an artist.she took from michael the power of the music video..how to get yourself seen.from prince she mixed both religon and sex with high quality dance music..and she kinda dressed like him in the begining too.she paved the way for janet,whitney,mariah..u know the other queens of pop...to sell in big numbers.and get big respect.her quality of music is high(really it is) compared to other pop acts.steady output .yeh she (along wih mj and prince)gave birth to a music industry that is more industry than music..because of the way they sold and performed and the impact they had.madonna also crossed over.not many white female pop stars did that.lucky star, holiday, like a virgin, into the groove, like a prayer were all r&b hits as well.top 25 actually.like a virgin top 10.yeah she's important.

but..to answer the question

Prince
Madonna
Michael Jackson(the most well known and best selling for sure.but mike just couldnt seem to get past thriller.)

Even thought that is the focus of these 3
Michael Jackson has release albums since he was a child

Also remember Thriller still outsold Purple Rain
And Mike did more side jobs between Thriller & Bad
He worked on the Triumph or Victory (Tour/Album) with his brothers, there was a big tour he did songs with other people Maxwell, Paul McCartney and others
and there was more:We Are The World project

Based on the sheer quantity and quality of Princes 80's output this should be pretty simple. Unfortunantly when the biggest selling album of all time is dropped in to the mix the decision is much more difficult.

I've never been a fan of Madonna (hype over substance) and with the exception of Like a Prayer, I don't rate her musically at all.

So I reckon Prince, Michael with Madonna a very distant third.

David Bowie's work during the 70's V's Prince during the 80's would be an interestinng topic biggrin
