Mountains out of molehills: Overreacting at ORG

Without a doubt, we are at the epicenter of Prince fandom here at prince.org.

To me, this latest flap with New Yorker interview is the latest in a long line of Prince "drama" that has been (as usual) blown way out of proportion by many hardcore fans. From his religion, to Larry Graham, to his marriages, to his alleged hip surgery, etc---there is always a section of fans here that get very dramatic over stuff that the rest of the world doesn't know or care about.

Example: How many people that you ran into at the 02 or during the Musicology Tour knew and or cared that Prince is a Jehovah's Witness? The bulk of the people I met didn't know, and really didn't care.

Question:Is it the nature of a fan website to heavily scrutinize and dramatize every little action of the person the site is devoted to? Or, are Prince fans just extra crazy?

All agreed.

I think it's just that some need some new, good music desperately. They don't know what to do and kinda feel closer to their idol by knowing and talking about every single detail the world has to offer about him. Discussing it makes them feel like a part of a big collective, all in the same desperate need of being closer to Prince.

I feel closer simply listening to his music: Emancipation music

If the site is devoted to him, naturally, expect different levels of any and everything...scrutiny, worship, nuttiness lol

In the particular case of the New Yorker interview...I didn't find out about it here on the Org. I found out about it on the front page of the Huffington Post, who got their story from Perez Hilton's site. So this time, it's not us blowing anything out of proportion. shrug

Wow, you just wrote what I was thinking tonight lol

If you see the threads popping up like mushrooms because of this interview, people must be really bored.
This very narrow purple place where people explode for nothing, just silly. That soup interview doesn't say that much and I've seen the most extensive posts about I don't know what. My boy Prime almost being stoned for saying something simple, people have short fuses these days.
And Prince being homophobic, that sounds even more strange with all the gay people in his business he hangs out with.
He sure wasn't homophobic when Robin Powers took some girlie flesh home wink

But let the crazyness continue, else it would be even more boring in here.

Prince, when is your new cd coming? I still would like a christmas present that isn't perfume, body or facial cream lol

thumbs up! I agree and questions only ask for even more questions... smile

Observation:
All that glitters, all that glitters, all that glitters... ain't gold.
Nahhh, indeed. And: all that reeks like STANK... AIN'T faeces either!

Question:
We've had "21-Nights with Prince", "Dinner with Prince", "Soup with Prince".
Why am I starting to believe we should start "Breakfast with Prince" and work our way through his complete day for a genuine interview, without all the tittle-tattle/gossip/hearsay?

Prince as a Christian man is not going to agree with the Homosexual lifestyle.
These men and women must realize that they can not look up to their musical hero for approval of that behavior.

The org. is the only place that some of these people can have a voice. In many cases nobody listens to them or cares about what they have to say, they don't really count. so they come on here and make cyber-friends and bitch about whatever, whenever they can. Sad, but true. confused

Most so-called "Christians" do not even consider the Jehovah Witness faith a "Christian" religion, so calling Prince a "Christian man" is a little inaccurate.

As for his approval of "that behavior" it's not likely that any Kingdom Hall in any city is going to be supportive of a man in high heels and (LOTS OF) make-up anymore than they are of gay marriage.

I also find it very unlikely that the Witnesses OR the Christians would not take offense at such lyrics as "a masterpiece on butterscotch thighs" or "it's against the law in whatever-many states what I'm about to do to you" from a twice divorced man who isn't married while he's suggesting these acts to what one can only assume is a woman who he is enticing into sex outside of marriage.

So perhaps Prince should not "look up to" his elders and his selective understanding of their "Holy Scriptures" to support his criticisms of others.

I do expect that soon the elders of the Jehovah Witnesses will have to make some sort of official statement, denouncing Prince.
I'm sure he's a sincere man in his beliefs, but they aren't going to change years of teachings and rules just to accomodate him.
They don't even believe men should wear beards for gosshakes, surely all that eyeliner can't be justifed.
